I was lucky enough to stumble into San Diego Kabob Shack today when looking for a place to eat with my clients.
Chula Vista has a shortage of "STAND OUT" Middle Eastern food but SDKS is a beacon of flavor in a desert.
We ordered the garlic hummus, the Triple Kabob Kombo, the Gyro Wrap, and the Zaatar Fries.
The garlic hummus is very light on the garlic but enough to give you the proper balance of sesame, garlic, and chickpea. And it's super creamy and amazing to spread on the fresh hot pita bread.
The Gyro Wrap came on toasted pita, a bed of veggies, a HEAP of Gyro Meat, and their amazing housemaid tzatziki sauce.
The kabob is extremely tender and cooked to perfection. I don't know how they get the beef so tender!! And the chicken has the perfect balance of onion, lemon, and garlic!
Finally, my personal favorite was the zaatar fries which were skinny fries, extra fried for the crunch, seasoned with zaatar.
I asked for all 4 sauces to try with the fries and my personal favorite was the green chutney.
I recommend eating here and trying out a new thing every time. I'm going back for the koobideh burger!!

We ordered the chicken kabob rice plate and a side of fries. The chicken was fresh, healthy, and well-seasoned, and the fries were huge — easily shareable. Everything is made to order, and they offer a self-serve sauce station (two sauces per item). I especially loved the garlic sauce and sumac chipotle, though I also tried the tzatziki, which was fresh and creamy. They also have a mango chili sauce for those who like a sweet-spicy kick.
Fun fact: they import their cannoli from Chicago — $8–9 each — which I didn’t try this time but definitely noted for next visit.
Price-wise, it’s a great value: tax and tip included, our falafel hummus wrap and chicken kabob dinner came to $37 total. High-quality food at reasonable prices is exactly why I’ll be coming back — plus they have other locations, including a brand-new one...
