If you like to read 1-star reviews, you will love this one! We spent the afternoon in Cincinnati from out of town and this was the only place we ate. When we arrived, the pleasant host recommended the homemade veggie burger. It sounded so good! When the server greeted us, we mentioned how excited we were about the veggie burger. She described how they make it out of beets not dry and yucky black beans. She said it was good! She took our drink order and then apologized for the delay in taking our food order because it was busy. No problem, we said! We weren’t in a hurry. When she came back, I ordered the veggie burger and she quickly interrupted me—“We ran out of them.” We thought she was joking. She wasn’t. She mentioned a chicken dish we might like. We were bummed and ordered kale salads and fries. They were good, but dang, we really wanted veggie burgers! The best part is coming: The table next door to us had a different server. The customer said she overheard they were out of veggie burgers, was that true? The server said, “no, we have more now!” My lunchmate and I snapped our heads—“there are veggie burgers??” Yes, they had just made more. That was an option?? I don’t mean to victim-blame, but I really was kicking myself that I didn’t ask whether more could be made. We couldn’t pay our check fast enough. On the way out, the server was like, “we wanna make this right! Can we give you two veggie burgers to go?” Um, we ate and were full. Why would that offer make sense?? So if you can, get the veggie burger! I heard it was...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our meal at Krueger’s! The service was top notch.
We started with the truffle chips and the charred veggie crudités. The truffle chips were so good, and came with a generous portion. I would definitely order them again! However, I would not recommend the veggie crudités. It was just confusing to have charred veggies served cold, and it was also disappointing that the largest portion of veggies was some incredibly bitter endive. We did still eat all but the endive, but wouldn’t order again.
For our mains we ordered the Italian pork sandwich and the bleu gruyere burger with a side of Mac n cheese to share. Both sandwiches were delicious! The Italian pork was piled high with shredded pork shoulder and the hot peppers added a much needed punch of acidity. The burger had an amazing onion jam and the bleu cheese was very prominent. We suspect the mac n cheese may be made with their beer cheese perhaps? Either way, it was so delicious. The pasta was cooked perfectly tender, and there was a nice crisp cheesy crust on top.
Everything was priced very reasonably as well. Our only other complaint is just that the tables are so close together. It was impossible not to hear the conversations on either side of us or feel like others were listening to our conversation. It is a small place, so I understand maximizing seating but it would be nice to spread the tables out a bit more.
Overall, we would definitely return! There are other menu items we were intrigued to try....
Read moreOur experience at Krueger's yielded a mixed review by me for food, drinks, and service. We started with cocktails. I had an Old Fashioned cocktail and my wife had a Moscow Mule. She thought her Moscow Mule was excellent. I did not like the Old Fashioned. It was very heavy on the simple syrup, making it overly sweet and I could not taste the bourbon at all. Usually an Old Fashion includes a dark cherry as part of the garnish but this tavern does not do that. This did not meet my expectations for a premium price cocktail. We ordered a glass of red wine, a Montepulciano, and a beer with our food. The red wine came chilled - as cold as the beer. This seems odd and not the red wine experience we expected.
We ordered the Hot Beer Cheese Snack, Roasted Beet Salad, Krueger's burger for our food. The beer cheese snack was good. The pretzels and cheese were tasty and enjoyable. The roasted beet salad was excellent and this could possibly be the best thing on their menu. The burger was good too and we did enjoy it, although the meat patties seemed a bit small. It reminded me of a Frisch's Big Boy hamburger. Service was mixed. We had a reservation and we were seated promptly but we were denied a table that we had requested when we arrived with an explanation that the table was being held for part of a large party. A few minutes later the table was given to others - not the party described. Our server was excellent. She was friendly, promptly,...
