Firstly, I will start by saying the food was delicious. My brother and I got the fish and chips, tofu tikka masala, and banoffee pie. They were out of some items unfortunately, but it was near closing time.
The issue we had more was with the service. When we go to Beacon, we usually go to Ziatun. We've passed Moreish before and I've always wanted to try it. We came in a little before 1 PM as a walk-in. It's a small restaurant with not many tables and all were taken. We didn't mind waiting. I gave a woman (seemed like the owner) my name and my phone number and she wrote it down. I asked for the wait time and she told me that there were 5 parties ahead of us and the wait could be 15 minutes, 30 minutes or potentially longer and that she would contact us when it was our turn.
We decided to do a little window shopping and eventually made our way back in about 20 minutes since my brother was having trouble walking. We waited outside Moreish for more than an hour and definitely in that time saw at least 5 parties leave and others come in and be seated.
Since we, in the moment, realized they were closing at 3 and not 6 like we initially thought, at around 2:30, I went in and politely told the woman that we've been waiting for more than an hour and have seen at least 5 parties come in and out in that time. She told me that they should be able to seat us before 3, but there was still 1 party ahead of us. Again, not sure how that's the case based off what we saw during that time.
My thought is that they need to have a better system in dealing with their waiting list or that they need to be more transparent about the number of reservations and waiting time. My wondering is if they are even following the waiting list to fidelity. If I didn't go in and ask her at 2:30, I don't actually know if we would've gotten a call from them, even if there was a table open...
When we were actually seated, the people working were polite and again the food was delicious. That said, the whole experience of it all was still off-putting and left me with questions. I would like to possibly try it again another time to try some of the other dishes. Hopefully it'll be a better...
Read moreWhen you know you are waking up in the morning and are going to have a full English breakfast without getting on a plane. Expectations!!!â¨â¨Thatâs what happened to us today!!!
We decided to take our Grandson to Moreish today for a true English Breakfast with all the fixings. I was most excited to try the black pudding, as I have had it both in England and Scotland numerous times and it is a luxury I have missed since before covid.
Let me tell you, Chef Michael does not disappoint. I am a person who lives in the hill area Mt. Beacon, and I just donât want to go into town and deal with the tourists. I donât - I really donât. I am old and I am cranky, and I like my quiet and clearly do not want to fight for parking. Which is why, this Wednesday we decided to venture into town.
First, perfection does not take 5 minutes. Be patient and know when the food arrives, it will be fresh. The yolk of the egg will be a beautiful bright orange and creamy. On my plate was the prettiest mushroom topped with a tomato. Of course, baked beans (Heinz - as the menu states) - Grilled British (yes imported) sausage, smoked back bacon, now this isnât the thin strips of Bacon, we poor Americanâs are used to, this is real thick gorgeous bacon, as it should be. The hash browns were so good. And now onto my coveted black pudding. I was very lucky, that my wife does not care for black pudding in the slightest, it meant I got hers. What wasnât so great, our grandson LOVED it and he was able to eat one of hers. But that did leave me with 3 for myself and again⌠Totally worth the wait and we will be back.
The only thing I predict⌠People will get word of this breakfast feast and will crowd in, and I will miss my good morning, Wednesday without crowdsâ breakfast. I do believe they will outgrow their cute little spot they are in now at the food court. I imagine a true breakfast and lunch spot for them. â¨â¨Thank you again and again Michael. PERFECTION!
Next time, we are having those gorgeous sausage rolls for lunch!
Julie, Deb, and their very...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our fish(haddock) and chips. Also, Iâm not a mushy pea fan, but a special mention for these, they were delicious.
Add to this the service was very friendly and eager to please.
Itâs a small restaurant, so make a reservation to ensure youâll get a table.
We made a reservation for their English breakfast tomorrow đ
UPDATE : BREAKFAST
We really like this place, the people & the nod to British cuisine.
Itâs not perfect, but with a few easy minor tweaks, the +$31 (inc. gratuity) breakfast could be justified.
Careful attention to not leaving bacon at the pass for too long, resulting in it being dry & tough, so much it could not be cut with a knife.
Asking how the client would prefer their fried eggs, rather than just serve them over well (too much time at the pass?).
And perhaps the worst âoffenseâ, serving âcrispy/dryâ black pudding, which would normally result in a lifetime ban from Bury (Google it đ).
These are easy things to fix and would result in a great $30 full English.
We will be back next time in the area, and hope we can positively enhance...
