It really pains me to have to write this review. A few weeks ago, I was married in Frankenmuth and from the beginning of the planning process I knew two things for sure: the cake I wanted and that I wanted to keep it local to the venue. I chose to go with Zehnder's because I was sure that I could trust them with my cake. Not only are they THE name but a few friends have ordered cakes from them before and been very pleased.
We ordered a small, two teir stacked cutting cake. It was a Swiss dot pattern, precise but simple. I did not get to see the cake until just before the dinner and I was so disappointed that I almost cried. Not only was the pattern wrong, despite having sent pictures of the exact design, but the whole cake LEANED. It leaned A LOT. When we did the cutting there was nearly a solid inch of frosting on the outside. It took two cuts to get to any cake. After the wedding, my florist told me that she had to put flowers on the cake to hide how poorly done it was and that she almost cried for me too. When we finally got a chance to try the cake, there was fondant on it which we had specifically told them that we didn't want. At least it tasted fine, I guess.
It has been pointed out to me that the day of my wedding was humid but I feel that professionals should know how to deliver a cake regardless of weather. I know that my cake was small and that I wasn't spending the $900 a cake for all of my guests would have cost, but it was something that was VERY important to me on my special day. Now that photos are showing up, I feel disappointed every time that I look at the cake. I really expected better from such a usaully...
Read moreContinuing with the German vibe and old school feeling is the Zehnder’s market / cafe.
It’s situated in the basement area of the zehnders restaurant and while walking through the house, you will also pass by a gift shop which is nice for some souvenirs
The market has fresh bakery items, as well as bottled sauces and preserves as well as a full quick service menu.
I opted for the bakery section as I already knew what I wanted to get from here.
They have a giant donut, the size of your face or larger. Usually it’s gonna be a little harder than your regular donut for something this size. Also usually, it will tastyeats more cake like.
Happy to say this gigantic donut was still soft even after a 5 hour drive home. I think it could’ve been a little bit more sweet, but having it not too sweet is actually so much better, especially if you’re having it with a coffee
Service was quick. Didn’t have to wait around long to be cashed out as there’s a few pay stations available.
They have on site parking for the restaurant and market so it’s pretty easy to get parking. But it does get pretty full in the lot...
Read moreThis is a fall/Christmas time destination. It is a very large old southern style white building decked out with all the lights and Christmas trimmings. They have dining rooms on the first floor as well as the basement. Also included is a gift shop and a bakery with all the goodies you could ask for. The dining room is festive, however, the tables are packed in tightly and you are bumping elbows with your neighbor throughout dinner. The wait staff was fabulous. Timely in bringing drinks and taking orders. Food options are an all you can eat family style dinner, an upgraded version with prime rib, shrimp, ect. for an additional $10. And a all you can eat self service Food bar. Pricing is more then average with the Chicken dinner being $30 and the buffet at $40 ish. With cocktails you can expect to spend $50 per person. Also available is a variety of freshly prepared dinners. Overall the atmosphere is lovely, puts you on the Holiday spirit. Would appreciate a few less tables so you can eat comfortably for a $50 dinner. Food was slightly above average but it is a holiday tradition...
