When up early, life is a dream.
Luckily, a driver from Toronto had taken a cottager to Grimsby, west of Niagara-On-The-Lake on the Lake Ontario Shore.
He had hoped to score a fare returning him to Toronto, and he was happy to pick up a call from north of Queenston and its limestone bench.
He put me out, kindly helping me unload his boot of my luggage, at the Duty Free.
A turnstile at the entrance to the Rainbow Bridge requires four Canadian quarter.
The change machine doesn't take loonies or toonies.
I had a stack, three dollars worth, and I paid my passage and left two stacks of four quarters each for the next traveler.
Crossing the bridge, hearing the roar of the falls and seeing its mist, I noticed that the lights upon its expanse had gone to sleep for the night.
I could just make out bridal falls but I knew where to look for it.
At customs, a woman officer called me to her desk.
"I've been staying at Vine Ridge Resort".
"Nice", she said.
She scanned my passport and I was walking again.
I had little idea if the train station had open doors, so I caught a ride share over to the Casino, walked through the gambing hall with my baggage and settled in for a full breakfast at Three Sisters, near the reception desk.
Not even a crumb awaited at the train station, and who wants to wait in a fully lit waiting room and starve.
The cafe car wouldn't open until after departing the Buffalo - DePew station, an hour after departure.
I could order up a plate of eggs at Three Sisters, cooked to order with American fries and grilled ham, but I couldn't get my coffee refilled.
And I made a day of it, drinking coffee.
I ordered a cup on the train.
I ordered a cup before going to work.
I even took a meeting with a bottle of Diet Coke in my hand, which I found a little vulgar.
Responding to a drowsy moment with a swig of carbonated caffeine probably has nothing Zen about it.
I made up with a very meditative nap at Six Ten in the evening and then mindfully washing, drying and folding my clothing between Eight and Ten.
Dannie took my call to go to the station and he called me.
"Sir, does your ride end in the city of Niagara Falls?
I need to go for dialysis at 6:45 AM".
"Just to the station, Dannie.
"Easy squeeze - eee".
I knew his story.
He had driven me to a hotel a few months ago after the train had arrived two hours late.
When I got out, he helped me with his bags even though his blood stream was due to be purged of urea.
I had a few loonies and toonies burning a hole in my pocket.
"Could you use a few of these"?
"Yes, I go to see my daughters in St. Catherine's every Sunday".
I went up to the second floor waiting room, boarded the train with people on their way to New York City.
I was sound asleep by the time the conductor came to scan my ticket.
All business, he nudged my shoulder and I started to Live Stream our passage along the Niagara River.
I was pretty much ready to be up for the day.
Dark has taken the morning as a friend.
The morning walkabout with a camera no longer encounters the sunlit facades of buildings.
As a photographer, my skills must adjust.
A man rolled on a skateboard up Salina Street.
A tour bus pulling a trailer of gear made its way to the Marriott Syracuse, heading south.
The two in an image might make for a dynamic scene.
Not enough light and the skater blurred.
I snapped too early.
Fast exposures and small apertures make for smart pictures with plenty of depth and no blurring as the hands gesture, as the body dances.
I have much more appreciation for how the body moves without too much thought being spent upon it.
I liked working with you.
I hope you'll post the picture of peaches and you in the Niagara land of fruit...

But the problem is, that while we are waiting more than 1 hour , we’re staying near the Hostess , nobody didn’t tell us about late dinner menu. We came 7 people and expected to sit and eat ,drink nice , spend min 300-400$ but restaurant or cafe can’t provide normal even service. no management no responsibility and disorganized stuff , manager and hostess . we were ordered 3 portion of chicken wings , Cesar salad drinks . after 30 min coming drinks , after 1 hour and 15 min coming food , later we we’re waiting plates , because she brought food but didn’t bring plates. so as I understand kitchen is also working slow, 3 portion food f chicken wings we were waiting 1 hour 15 min , it’s so weird. and more over they were only our table and other 2 small tables . it’s crazy. I hope someone like owners or managers will write my review and pay attention for their business . or the owners have to see the cameras sometimes. so , for other customers I recommend not to spent time like we did it and don’t spoil mood and nice evening, and choose better place . otherwise you will spent your evening with...
Read moreIf I could give a 0 I would have, the worst service ever. I am a manager also at a restaurant and i couldn't believe the waitress was making us pay full price for our food. My fiance and I ordered wings and fries, so my fiance tells the waitress we will be back that we were going outside to our vehicle. We were gone 12-13 minutes, we come back and honest to God there is a man sitting at our table eating our wings. My fiance says what are you doing man, you are eating our food. He said no I am not. The exchange a few other words and the waitress calls security. After they came and everything calmed down the manager comes up and apologizes and my fiance says we have been waiting for our food and since the guy ate it can we get our meal at half price, the manager says no ( I honestly thought she was joking) she states our order is being remade and we will need to pay regular price for it. My fiance says I am not paying full price, so she says then I am calling security. Security comes back, they said absolutely yes we should get our meal free However they can not override that so they contacted the manager of the casino, he comes to talk to us and apologizes and says we do not have to pay for any of it and that the man should have been kicked out of the restaurant because he did not order anything and just seen some food and no one sitting there and helped himself. Mind you it was my birthday and we had came to Niagara falls from Pittsburgh for it and that happened and the manager really said we had to pay full price. Me being a manager would have not only gave them the food free However also gave them coupons for another time. The manager of this restaurant has no clue on how to be a manager, even the waitresses were saying she should not be one and they couldn't believe she was acting as if that was nothing that had happened and we should be Happy and just reorder our food and pay full price. That was one of my favorite places to eat when we would go up there and now because of that, I will not go...
