Visited LA Costa on a customers recommendation today. I was not satisfied with the experience. I started out with the seafood tower and it was a royal mess. A decent portion of seafood was literally murdered in a sauce that was a mix of Chilli, tomato puree, lime and probably what tasted like a dash of white vinegar. The taste was a violent slap of salty citric acid. The seafood tower was loaded with diced cucumber and slices that were sprinkled with a seasoning of something resembling a mix of salt, Chilli powder and chicken bullion. And then drizzled with the same red sauce the seafood was mixed with. Take my advice and SKIP this...it's an utter waste of 20 bucks.
I next ordered a fish soup which was ok. A simple flavorful broth with pieces of Tilapia filet and potatoes and carrots. It came served with fried rice and a couple of puffed tostadas. The flavors in an oriental fried rice and their fish soup clash and do not complement each other. BUT, the soup was still ok.
Why surprised me though was the manner in which the server approached the situation when she noticed I left the seafood tower almost intact and then ordered the soup. I explained to her that the seafood tower was not appealing to me in the manner it was prepared and hence wanted to try another dish from the menu. She walked to the kitchen and evidently explained the situation to them and then returned to my table to asked me if I intended to pay for both dishes. It was insulting to be questioned in this manner, specially with people around me aware of what was going on. I did not ask or expect to be comped the first dish... I believe the limited English spoken by the server and whatever she communicated with the kitchen resulted in them behaving in that manner.
The reviews on this place suggest quite a number of happy customers and I am sure the fried and grilled seafood selections would be the reason for it and that is something that remains to be seen. For now my displeasure stands till and if I decide to try La...
Read moreStaff was rushing to close. We came an hour and a half before closing and they seemed like roaches in the headlights. Didnt even have cold beer. We got a 6 beers, 2 fajita plates and two ribeyes and came out about 200 bucks which isnt a big deal unless the steak did taste like it was brined in a salt block for 18 hours and cooked by a teenager. The potatoes were clearly microwaved as well as the the tortillas as they were tough. Cheese melts different in a microwave. I've worked 15 years as a cook and know all too well. The beans were good, it's like they actually had fresh ones in a steam table as they were the quickest to arrive and not 50000 degrees. The salad was also good, but would have been better had the waitress actually brought my dressing out earlier than 10 minutes even though you had 2 tables. The corn on the cobb was like eating sunburned blisters on someones arm. There was no pop like you would expect. It was just sloppy and mushy. Now I say all this to make a point. Most managers want to make their cooks and dishwashers clock out ON TIME and not stay any later than that so they make them start cleaning and closing 45 minutes to an hour before hand. This is bad practice and there will always be someone like me who knows and will say something about it. Marco Pierre White would cook tediously no matter what time you came in and would stay there no matter how long until his kitchen could run the same standards again the next night. You know why he was able to do that? Because people kept coming back,...
Read moreStumbled upon this place visiting my aunt that just moved into the area. I did a quick search for seafood and wasn't very hopeful I would find something edible in the area, but Lacosta showed some promise with the 4.3 star ratings. Let's cross our fingers as we pull up & enter the door that our tummies will be fulfilled!
As we walked in, we loved the decor, it gives the vibe of a seafood shack that would be on an island. The hostess was warming with her greeting as she escorted us to our table. We were lucky enough to have Maria as our waitress. She is attentive, gave us her recommendations & accommodated any requests we had. I opted for the monterrey shrimp after eyeballing the table across from us & it looked ahhmazzzing. I'm glad I made that choice because every cheesy bite was yummy! I had a refreshing Mangonade to was it all down.
Everyone in my party was satisfied with their food. We did have one dry chicken breast to come out, we calmy voiced our displeasure and they remade it without hesitation. I've seen some reviews with complaints for things that can be easily resolved by simply bringing things to their attention before you get yourself frustrated. Lol. Breathe people! Life's too short to leave bad ratings for situations that can be corrected if you ASK before using those fidgety google fingers to demolish a restaurant's character!
