I wanted to love this place...and there were aspects of it that I did. The food, however, was inexcusable. Here's the breakdown from my experience.
Pros: The venue... Cool setting...old church remade into what it is now. 3 bars (wine, mixed drinks, and beers) separated well. Great feel. The staff... were fantastic. Friendly...knowledgeable...to the point...on top of things. They were great. The crowd... Mixed...all age groups...everyone seemed like they were enjoying themselves. The bar... The ladies in our group tended towards wine and mixed drinks. Everyone seemed to enjoy their drinks very much. I enjoyed a few Old Fashioneds. The rest of the guys had very positive things to say about their beers. The sentiment seemed to be that they were different and interesting.
Cons: The food...the food...the food... If you're an owner/manager reading this...you've got to fix that kitchen...that's your only downside...and it's a severe one. I wouldn't classify any of our party as particularly picky when it comes to food...we enjoy good food...we don't mine paying a lofty price-tag for good food...but we're not food snobs either. What we had tonight was just inedible. I will say the apps were good...the Mediterranean platter was very interesting...the roasted peppers rocked. Everything else needs a redo though... The place smelled strongly of fish when we entered which is always a bad sign. Two of our party ordered Mahi tacos...and they were inedible....the fish was rancid. Two of our party ordered the Bison Linguine dish....that was disgusting as well. I was excited about the Parrot Fish...it wasn't rancid, but just barely edible. Even the desserts were tasteless...one of our party got the bread pudding and it had no taste whatsoever...it was like cardboard. The food actually became a joke at our table because everyone wanted to enjoy the night but were all in complete agreement on the quality of the food. I will say...every dish looked amazing...but the taste...either wasn't there or was absolutely disgusting.
Please...for the love of God...fix the kitchen. This is a great place with a lot of potential, but, as is, I'd be looking out for a news article on food poisoning. I seem to be in the minority on negative reviews here...so try it yourself...but fair warning...
Read moreThe food, beer, and staff are great. Free Street parking if you can find it. The beer rotates very frequently so even though everything I had was amazing, it doesn't mean you'll be able to get the same beers depending on when you go. The reason I gave this place only four stars, and I would really give it three but I didn't want people to miss out on the great selections they have, is because the venue is incredibly loud. It's in an old historic church, which is super neat, but the acoustics in the building are such that no matter how many people are there it's extremely noisy and difficult to hear a person across the table. They do have some outdoor seating, so that helps, but be advised if you have anyone with hearing issues that this place will be a challenge for them. We took home 6 bottles of some stuff no longer on tap because what we tasted was so good, we are confident these will be...
Read moreWe went out with our friends last night. Local Relic was a fun upbeat restaurant set in an old Stone church. The high ceilings with arched windows gave the room an openness that left you feeling like everyone was your friend. The beers we're some if the best craft brews around with distinct taste and flavors that are different from any other brewery. The food was delicious and delightful which often craft breweries do not have good food but this one was was an exception. We had pork sliders grits with green chili gravy ribs with a cherry sauce and a salty plate that had a variety of Olive's potato strings fried cheese and other salty items it truly was delicious. All the beers were available to sample before ordering any large pores. there was also a downstairs that theater and art performers take place that was available to watch. We will definitely go back. This was a fun place in a...
