For all you locals looking to buy or service an e-bike, this is THE place to do it! Greg and Sam are such a pleasure to work with, they know their stuff, and they actually follow up with you when they say they will. I wish they’d set up more businesses around town, because I’d honestly buy just about anything from these guys.
I started looking into getting a folding e-bike for my wife over the summer, and wanted to get one that would allow me to use the state e-bike tax credit. This was one of the handful of bike shops in the Colorado Springs area awesome enough to register as dealers (it requires them to front the $450 credit to customers and wait until the following year to get refunded by the state, so it’s not surprising a lot of bike shops don’t participate).
We didn’t want a fat tire bike, and most of the less expensive bikes that qualify for the e-bike credit fall into that category. These guys are a dealer for Himiway, who just came out with a folding bike (the Himiway B3) that looked like a good fit for my wife. I called and talked to Greg, who explained that they didn’t have one in store for us to try, but he said he would order one and build it for us to demo right away. And he did!
Unfortunately Himiway was backlogged (not Greg’s fault) and it took almost a month for the bike to come in. Greg kept us updated the entire time so we knew what was going on and that he hadn’t forgotten about us. My wife and I had plans to ride the Katy Trail and ended up getting another bike, and Greg was very understanding and told us it was no problem and that even if we didn’t plan to buy it, we were still more than welcome to come in and try it out.
Then last week Yamaha announced an insane sale on all of their e-bikes, and I remembered that these guys were listed as a Yamaha dealer on their website. I called and talked to Sam, who explained they weren’t a Yamaha dealer anymore, but they happened to have the bike I wanted in stock. I asked if they would honor the Yamaha sale and e-bike credit, and he said he would reach out to Yamaha and get back to me. Two days later I got a call from Sam telling me that he had worked everything out with Yamaha and I could come grab the bike. It was a lot of extra work for Sam, and I’m sure pretty low profit margin as well, and yet he went out of his way to get me an amazing deal.
It was reassuring when I stopped by the same day to pick up the bike and found out Sam’s daily driver is also a Yamaha e-bike! I was also very impressed that despite the plethora of bikes in the store (which are very neatly organized and the rentals very well maintained) and the fact they’d had my bike in stock for a long time, they still had all three keys that come with the bike, as well as all of the original items that came in the box.
There were two things that happened in the brief time I was in the store buying my bike that really stood out to me as signs of a quality business. When I first walked in, Sam was helping a female customer pick up a Rad Power e-bike that she had dropped off for repair. Sam rang her up and when she saw the total cost of $39, her jaw dropped and she said “that’s all it cost?!” I know bike shops that will charge more than that just to look over your bike, and this was a repair that include parts and labor. They clearly aren’t scalping their customers!
While Sam was ringing me up, an older gentleman sauntered into the store with his two dogs. Sam waved and said hi, and it was clear he knew the man. Sam said he’d be right with him, and the man said he was just swinging by to say hi, and proudly told Sam - with a huge grin on his face - how many miles he’d already put on his new e-bike. Even his dogs seemed to be grinning. You just don’t find many shops this good out there anymore!
So whether you want to buy, rent, or service an e-bike in the Colorado Springs area, this really is THE place to go! Thanks Greg and Sam. Keep up the...
Read moreTHREE good experiences with this shop. I usually don't post reviews... but they just under promised and over delivered so I just had to post.
FIRST: I'm an old out of shape guy. I used to ride non-electric mountain bikes a decade ago but stopped. Recently someone talked me into going in to look at the fat tire ebikes. I didn't like the look of them since I was an old time mountain biker. So I ended up buying a Yamaha Moro 5 electric mountain bike. (And the prices were so good I got a second one for my wife. We both just retired so we can pedal everyday.) PURCHASE: EXCELLENT.
(SIDE NOTE: I think on the very same day I met Greg I met another person named Gary. So had their names mixed up for a while. OOPS. Sorry Greg.)
SECOND: Had a derailleur literally explode on me. Sam had that replaced fairly quickly and it wasn't too expensive. Plus he had adjusted a chain guide a few times. SERVICE: EXCELLENT.
THIRD: Travelled with bike on Jeep. Accidentally "rubbed" a tire on a brick mailbox and the rear wheel/rim was totally bent out of shape and unusable. Sam had to order a new wheel from Yamaha and have it shipped from offshore. Once he received it, I took the bike in and I was prepared to wait a week or two because this is the summer and they are very very busy. But he got it all fixed ahead of time in just 2 days. In addition, it cost less than I was expecting. (I think he only charged me cost on the new wheel.) EMERGENCY SERVICE: EXCELLENT
My wife and I can ride again... JUBILATION!
Anyway: I mentioned I would post a review. Something I NEVER do: THIS is a good company to buy from.
AND also a perfect example of WHY you buy bicycles from a LOCAL BIKE SHOP and not online. Online you won't get personal service. You can't just drive up and say "Hey this doohickey is making a noise" and they might do a quick review and minor adjustment in a few minutes.
ALSO: on the subject of Ebikes: If you've been thinking about it... JUST DO IT. I have about 1800 miles on this bike which I bought at the end of last year. BEST decision I've...
Read moreWife and I just purchased 2 Aima Big Sur Ebikes. We are older couple in our late 60s and have been riding for a long time. Well ha,ha just got tired riding up ColoradoSprings hills. We do our research before we ever spend this Type of money. Wife and I walk alot at Garden of the Gods. We See Ebikes everywhere but we noticed 1 thing is this cream color Aima Ebikes everywhere. In my head it must be tough and durable bike to stand up in a RENTAL FLEET. Went on line looked them up and looked for a dealership. Found a dealer in Manitou so I went looking. Went to the shop and finally somebody could answer my questions. Most shops are just Flat out CLUELESS and fumbled around the answers. Sam took us around the corner from his shop to test them out and give us some pointers. Well Sam answered all my questions and knew his crap. He has multiple brands to fit almost everyone. After several visits probly driving him nuts we ordered and the main decision factor is 2 customers bringing thier Ebikes in for service. They did not know me at all. They gave me thier experience in this store and thier mechanic that service thier Ebikes. Well we pulled the trigger and glad we did at this store. Just in about a week we have had a blast and this Amia Big Sur is performing exactly like Sam said they would. I usually don't write lengthy reviews like this but my wife and I did on this shop. Low pressure but...
