This place is an absolute joke. My first experience at Gervais & Vine consisted of many different plates of overpriced, undersized, and mediocre (at best) food that was shared between a group of six friends. We came for "jazz night", which was listed at two different times on the menu and website, but that wasn't an issue since there was no jazz anyway. Our waiter told us that sometimes they play jazz over the sound system, but that there hadn't actually been a live jazz band in a long time. When asked how their sangria was (it is watery, flavorless, no fruit), our waiter told us it would "get us drunk", and while we were all pretty taken back by this unprofessional remark at the time, in hindsight- I wish it did. Perhaps then we would have been intoxicated enough to not care about the rubbery, insipid cheese plate and cold empanadas. Our group of friends had multiple Living Social deals between us, so we all fought over who could use their's on the check (only 1 per table), because nobody wanted to go back. Unfortunately, I did not win that battle, so a couple of weeks later my girlfriend and I went back to burn the Living Social deal on some wine and dessert because how bad can that be, right?
Bad. It can be real bad. After a brief glance at the uninspiring, grossly overpriced wine menu, we decided on ordering a couple of glasses of port to go along with dessert. Being a fan of both the Sandeman Ruby and Sandeman Tawney ports (which they had listed on their menu), I asked our waitress how the Sandeman Reserve compared to the two. Laughing, the waitress told us that she has no idea, because "usually, people don't ask about the dessert wines so we sort of just pour them whatever". She said that she wasn't even sure if they actually had those wines in stock. Nevertheless, she went in the back to see if she could find out any more information on it, and came back with a sample for me to try. She said they did not have the Ruby nor the Tawney in stock, and the wine I was about to taste wasn't actually a Sandeman Reserve, it was "something else that they just say is Sandeman". After I asked what wine it was then, she went in the back to fetch the bottle, came back with it, placed it down on the table, and said, "this one."
For dessert, we ended up ordering the almond joy bread pudding, which was miserable as well.
If you are looking for a tapas style restaurant in Columbia, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. 116 and Mamas and the Tapas are both better options, as is just ordering a few different things from the McDonald's dollar menu and...
Read moreThis is my second review, and unfortunately my review is negative this time coz I was upset with the service. I've been here couple times and it's usually been fine but not this time. Like most of my other Google reviews this one's a vegetarian's view too. So, if you look at their menu there aren't much options for a vegetarian. You got the standard salad (ofc vegetarian don't survive on salad), 2 cold tapas and ofc sides like fries and pizza which is obviously customizable. None of the hot tapas or the specials menu have any vegetarian options. I decided to get the Brussels sprouts without the bacon, but boy did I make the wrong decision. The dish did not include any bacon for sure but the brussels sprouts tasted like it had some bacon flavor to it. My only thought was either same left over oil was used or the same pan used to make the regular order with bacon was used to make the one without bacon. Hence the taste and the smell. Initially I thought I was being paranoid so I had couple bacon lovers try it and they had the same opinion, so I send back the dish. And guess what, the restaurant decides to still charge me for it, and ofc I had to talk to the manager and that wasn't fun coz she decides to taunt her customer by saying "how about next time you just don't order the Brussels sprouts?!!" I don't own/manage a restaurant but I understanding the customer i.e. consumer research is my bread and butter... So I know the key to customer satisfaction is taking care or the customer and never to make your customer feel awful. I wasn't a happy camper, and they are lucky I didn't make a scene out there. Not going...
Read moreWe had not been to Gervais and Vine in probably 8-10 YEARS.... The last few times we had been there, the service was NOT GOOD (they were very busy, but still). We decided to give them another try. When we walked in there were only a handful of other tables occupied (I would say that it was less than 30% full on a Friday evening). We were seated right away and ordered 2 glasses of wine that seemed to take a long time to arrive. But then it was a considerable time before the waiter came back to take our orders. The food came pretty quickly and was delicious (it is VERY pricey though, so it should good). When we were done eating the waiter finally came back to ask if we needed anything else. We asked for the check and it took several minutes for him to bring it to the table, and then it took almost 15 minutes for him to come back and take our card and then close to 5 minutes to come back... It really shouldn't take 20 minutes to get the check and pay. We were done eating and our wine was finished before we asked for the check. When we left there were probably only 4 other tables occupied. For this price point, and portion size, the service should be excellent...
