Mack's Cash Grocery — Restaurant in Columbia

We just recently discovered Mack's Restaurant, but all of us agree that it serves one of the best cheese burgers in Columbia for the money. They make a good chicken sandwich too, although it’s not quite as good as those at Drake’s Duck-In. In addition to these staples, they serve a varied menu including many breakfast offerings, hot dogs, salads, other sandwiches and fried chicken. Everything is made fresh to order and you can customize it as you see fit. I really like the double pimento cheese burger - better than Pawley’s Front Porch or Burger 77 at half the price. The food is usually ready by the time the cashier has rung you up. Our bill for 3, including fries and drinks has always been under $20.00. They do a brisk lunch time business, but we’ve never had to wait for long. The line forms in the back, so you may want to just go in the back door. It is one of those local joints that I’ve driven by a thousand times without ever realizing that it was there. One thing that really sets them apart is the friendly staff, who actually seem to care about making you happy. Although it is centrally located near downtown Columbia on Laurel St., there is plenty of free parking, even around lunch time. This a definite must-visit for anyone searching for an awesome burger. Mack's has been my go to for delicious slaw dogs, cheeseburgers, and onion rings and having to stand in a 40 minute line that stretches out the door was never a problem because the food is worth it. Today, I decided to have a late lunch and arrived about 3:15p. Fifteen minutes before closing. I was excited, there was no line. However, upon entering the lady with the mask on the grill began to complain about me and every customer that walked in the door. Comments like: it never fails, they wait until we're about to close to come in here, why they wait til the last minute, we been here all day. There was a customer behind me who wanted 5 cheeseburgers and her response was so obvious til the lady who works the register said she would make the burgers. My point: You CLOSE at 3:30p. If someone comes in at 3:29p you give them quality customer service. If not, change your closing hour to 2:30 or 3:00p so you can have time to breakdown and clean up and be out by 3:30p. DON'T make the customers feel as though they are inconveniencing you when they want to spend their money in your restaurant. Where do I begin? Mack’s Cash grocery (AKA Mack’s restaurant) has the best burger in SC! I found out about Mack’s from a SC eats guide which said this place was voted for best burger in Columbia and it definitely lives up to that statement! Great tasting Patties, perfectly melted cheese, fresh ingredients, and the good old fashioned sesame seed bun to top it off! They don’t mess around when it comes to getting your order to you as fast as possible! When you walk in and go to the back to put your order in, more than likely you will be out of the place with all your food in 5 minutes. The prices are also some of the best for the quality of food I have ever seen. A double cheeseburger and a large drink will only put you back about 8-9 dollars! I really like their milkshakes as they are the old fashioned style, but recently every time I go the shake machine is down. The place is older so I can understand that older machines are harder to fix.
