If you see that a band you like is playing here, follow the tour to the next stop. This is not a great room for bands. I've been here a few times. About half the crowd can fit in front of the stage. The rest are tripping over each other in the traffic area in front of the bar trying to see around the columns. I used to go stand near the front on the side of the stage but they don't allow the crowd over there anymore. You could literally put the stage anywhere else in the room and improve the place.
It's cozy and the sound is okay so if you don't expect a large crowd it would be fine. For The Record Company we would have had to arrive when doors open and stand in our space for four hours to maintain a spot where we could see the band.
Promowest has a number of good venues. This isn't one of them. I don't like to show up two hours early just so I can see the band. I'll take a venue like The Newport where you can see well from nearly everywhere. A&R is a poorly conceived, poorly laid out, inhospitable, uncomfortable mess. I'm a veteran of hundreds of concerts and I'll choose a different venue next time. The columns make this room a challenge. Promowest has figured out how to lay the room out in quite possibly, the worst way.
In my experience, if you walk into a venue and have to walk by the stage to get in...you're not in a great room. Add five or six columns that perfectly sit between half your audience and the center of the stage and it's a recipe for a bad experience. See my picture for an example of what...
Read moreMy second favorite venue ever. I’ve seen some of my favorites perform here and it’s always such a great vibe and so so fun. Staff is always pretty friendly. There are 2 issues that I have though… 1 is the ADA experience. Genuinely I do appreciate how sweet the venue was, but I feel like there has to be a better way to go about this.
The first show I went to here we got tickets last minute and didn’t have a chance to email ahead. They told us since they had no notice they couldn’t do much which I understand. Though, we were just put in the entrance walkway across from the stage. We were at the side of the stage, but far enough that people were constantly walking between us. It wasn’t the best.. my cousin was pretty upset about all her videos being ruined by people walking in front of the camera. The second show, we emailed ahead so we were prepared. Not the venues fault, but oh my gosh 90% of the show all we saw were butts. We were right against the side of the stage so we just got butts. It was not a great angle…
Problem number 2 with this venue is the sound. I’m not sure entirely what the issue is, maybe the mixing or just where the ADA section is, but it’s impossible to understand any vocals. The instruments are always so so much louder and I genuinely have no clue what the performer is saying. Regardless though, I am a fan of this venue. I...
Read moreThe artist I saw was phenomenal, however, the staff was incredibly rude and inconsiderate towards the crowd and the artist. The staff was yelling to each other so loudly while the performer was performing and it was incredibly distracting. The security also had their radios on and turned up so loud that the sound over shadowed the performer (so much that the performer's staff had to come from behind the scenes and ask for them to turn it down.) The stage is so incredibly small and the view for the majority of people was obstructed by massive columns in the architecture. Lastly, without any warning, a staff member took one of the barriers from around the stage and started moving it to block off the crowd while pushing us over. It was incredibly rude and he made us all fall into each other without saying anything or apologizing. Overall, I can deal with inconveniences when it comes to myself and MY experience- but the poor etiquette of the venue staff ruined the whole night. I really feel for the performer. The lack of respect the staff at A&R had towards her was...
