My first thought was that this is a standard breakfast diner and I was annoyed at my wife for choosing a boring breakfast diner that day.
The menu seemed fairly standard and boring, too, but once I got over those biases I had a great time. We ordered pancakes, 5-pepper chicken sandwich, and some standard eggs and biscuit breakfast item my wife ordered that I don't particularly remember and didn't include in my notes, but I remember that everything was good so that must have been good too.
The pancakes were excellent. Incredible, even, I can't think of better pancakes I've had. They were perfectly crispy on the outside, perfectly fluffy and moist on the inside, full of fresh flavor and topped with a delicious cinnamon butter. Flawless pancake execution. It's understood that we're not going to have proper maple syrup at a diner, but it was particularly unfortunate given the high quality of these pancakes, they deserved proper maple.
I had the 5-pepper chicken sandwich and was going in with reservations and preconceptions mentioned above. I typically try to avoid fried and breaded food for any meal before dinner and I was expecting a Wendy's spicy chicken or slightly better quality sandwich. Those expectations were blown away. This chicken breast was juicy and super fresh and clearly hand battered on site in buttermilk. It wasn't greasy but it was crispy and hot, the 5 pepper flavor was quite spicy--much more spicy than my expectations. Even the veggies on it were of great quality, dark green lettuce no iceberg nonsense and a juicy deep red tomato. I opted for blue cheese instead of mayo which was fantastic. I'm salivating reading over my on-site experience and reliving it now, I need this sandwich again.
My wife is a bit of an amateur coffee connoisseur and was quite impressed with the coffee as well.
Sunny Street Cafe is a solid diner that I'd highly recommend. I can't think of a...
Read moreThis is based solely upon one of the sunny Street drivers closest to this location while driving on 71 South in Columbus Ohio. A driver in a Kia with a wrap-around Sunny Street Cafe display on their a vehicle was driving down the freeway, and at first I thought the driver might be inebriated or having a diabetic emergency or other medical problem. It eventually became clear that his behavior was deliberate. Even though the two lanes including even the middle passing lane to the right were clear, he was traveling in the left lane at below the posted speed limit. People for many miles were forced to pass him on the right. People are honking their horns, and one driver even pulled in front of him to make him move to the right. Once that happened, the driver sped up and moved away, only for this driver to move immediately back into the left lane again in what can only be described as road rage behavior. The Sunny Street Cafe driver was a serious driving hazard two other drivers and could easily have caused an accident. With Ohio's recently activated rules requiring drivers who are not passing to be in the far right lane, his behavior was also highly illegal. He should have his privileges to drive for the diner removed at the very least. If it were my Diner, I would consider letting him go. He does not represent Sunny Street very well, and if he was so set on doing this today for such a long period of time, it makes one wonder just how often he has done this and how poorly the Sunny Street Cafe has been represented by his behavior in the past. I know I do not plan to go there again because of this. Based on other driver's reactions, I imagine many others feel...
Read moreWhere to start...... We came from out of town and wanted to try a local spot out but we regretted that decision. 1st issue was my Server getting both of our orders wrong. My GF ordered a meal with hash browns with cheese they forgot the cheese and had her scrape the hash browns off to remake it. 2nd was mine was supposed to have no onions in the loaded hash browns but had them hidden in the gravy 1st bite. It was remade but less then 2 minutes and the eggs weren't even done so it was soggy and the cheese wasn't melted. On top of all of that the server was reaching over our drinks to grab dishes and thats wild that service nowadays skip the bare minimum requirements. I also talked to another store owner around the area and they had similar issues with this business at one of the other locations. The standard for customer service has definitely dropped and consumers are still paying very high prices on top of tips. Just sharing my honest experience because nothing was done to acknowledge...
