It's definitely a chill place to go for drinks & have a snack with friends. The only reason I gave it a 3/5 is because the service was not great the last two times I went there and the menu is misleading. Here's a breakdown of my experience:

Food: I absolutely love that the kitchen is open until midnight! And the food really does taste amazing for being "bar food." There are healthier options available, but I definitely recommend the fries! I'm gluten-free and I had no problem finding some great menu items and ciders to enjoy.

Service: This was my biggest issue, any time we needed something, we had to make eye contact from across the bar/flag down our server, who was talking to the bartender behind the counter every time. When I asked for a box for my food, the server brought it and cleared our plates, but left without asking if we were ready for the check and never came back, so we once again had to flag them down to ask for the check.

Menu: While there are great options, the descriptions were somewhat misleading, but that could just be me. I expected the sharable peppers to be small sharable-sized peppers for a group, but they ending up being 2 very large peppers that were super messy & difficult to cut. The Buffalo chicken dip we ordered was amazing, but it didn't come with the dipping items listed on the menu and the chips broke upon touching it, which got very frustrating.

That being said, overall it's a good place for drinks & food, just needs a few tweaks to...

I was at City Tavern last night with some friends from out of town. I have never met a more unprofessional pair of bar tenders. One was Amber (I think?) And the other I didn't get the name of, but we will call Karen

To start, non attentive would be kind. I stood for 15 minutes waiting for service at a bar that was half seated. Only after yelling to get their attention was I able to get a drink. Amber went and sang karaoke while Karen wasn't behind the bar, effectively leaving it unmanned.

My buddy got the wrong beer twice, our car bombs were under poured, and they were more concerned with having a good time instead of doing their job.

When we were leaving, my friend left a tip of 6.66 on her 32 dollar bill, for which Karen became so offended, she pushed one of the girls with us, tried to fight the two, and then threatened to call the police for "assault" against my friend who pushed her back in defense. This was in full view of the cameras mind you.

By far the worst experience I've had with bar tenders in a long time. We all left a tip, and yet that wasn't good enough for Karen.

Do not go...

Went here for Restaurant Week and their $20 prix fix meal. I had never been and assumed Restaurant Week was an opportunity for restaurants to showcase some of their best dishes. Not so. My appetizer was two chicken legs tossed with my choice of sauce, as was one of my dinner companions. We both ordered spicy bbq and we both got buffalo. My first leg was bloody at the bone. I didn't eat the second. My daughter got nachos with a drizzle of queso and a scattering of Pico. Not a great start. I ordered a burger for my main. It was ok. It was clear it was a frozen patty. The perfect sharp edges were a dead give away. Again nothing special. Fries were fresh and delicious. For dessert the apple pie had a good flavor but was pretty small. My daughter's cherry pie was very small and not actually pie, more of a cobbler. All in all, service was prompt and very friendly but food was forgettable and it felt like they were trying to maximize profit by lowballing quality and portions. The atmosphere was good and i would go back for drinks but don't expect much in the...

Having spent some time in this space before it became the City Tavern, I can enthusiastically endorse it's most recent, and hopefully permanent, tenant. City Tavern is what the Italian Village has been waiting for. Good craft beer, local and otherwise, a decent happy hour, and delicious food. The space is intimate but not overwhelming with opportunities to watch sports from any of the Tavern's tables. The bar is large with plenty of space not to be reached over. Most importantly, the staff is friendly, helpful, and eager to make the space your new favorite spot. If that isn't enough, they even have one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever had, named after the Wonder Bread factory that City Tavern now resides in. Come here for good beer, new cocktails, and a reminder of how a small space in the corner of a historic neighborhood of Columbus can be a great place to spend some time.

We came on a Thursday night, and it wasn’t too busy. They seemed to be pretty understaffed. Our server took our drink order and we asked her to come back to order food. About 10 minutes goes by and the bartender then becomes our server and we give her our food orders. We later asked about our drinks that we previously ordered and the first server didn’t relay the message. So there was a wait on the drinks for some time. When we received our food we also did not have flatware to eat and had to chase down the bartender for help because she couldn’t hear or notice us trying to get her attention. The Mac and cheese was delicious and the burger was cooked perfectly. It was good but very pricey for the value and the service that was provided.
