Town Hall! Delicious White People Food!
Christian TamteChristian Tamte
IMPRESSIVE. I don't often write reviews.... but when something so worthwhile, creative, delicious and LIFE CHANGING comes to the Columbus scene... I can't pass up the opportunity to shout from the rooftops! (Which, btw, TownHall will be opening rather soon- I can't wait to see what amazingness that will bring to our lives!) Yeah, I said it. Impressive. Everything about this place is impressive. The Food The presentation The ambiance The staff The ownership The ethos .... all of it. A friend recommended we check it out and he described the food as bar food that's actually GOOD for you. He wasn't wrong, and it's so much more than that. Since TownHall is a restaurant, I'd certainly expect the food to take center stage and it absolutely does- so we'll start there. TownHall has a NON-GMO menu that will please ALL different diets, Vegan, Keto, Paleo, Gluten- Free, etc. And I don't mean just one or two items you can choose from... this is the place I can bring ALL my friends with special diets and we will ALL be pouring over the multitude of scrumptious options. First things first..."Shareables". I don't know what they do to those wings... but I want more of them in my life. lol (actually, I DO know what they do- because TownHall prides itself on transparency... so if you want the recipe, they are STOKED to give it to you so you can enjoy it at home. PS- they Sous Vide these keto-licious morsels before coating them in a gluten-free dry rub that will knock your socks off (don't worry- they aren't spicy, unless you dip them in the rebol hot sauce that comes on the side). But let's talk about the bone broth. This isn't your average soup. Bone broth is the life giving stuff that we need to start talking about. Feeling gross? Under the weather? Gut issues? Feeling the pains of old age - or just that old sports injury? How about tired all the time? BONE BROTH. Seriously- do the research (you won't have to look far at all) this isn't new science, we've been using this and needing this for like... ever. It's about time we have it available to us when we go out to eat. You can keep it simple, you can get creative and make your own bougie broth... or you can go with their tried and true suggestions. Any way you go, you're in for a treat (and your body will thank you). YES. this comes in a paper cup, kinda resembling a coffee to go cup. Bone broth is meant to be drank. (the staff is cool though, so if you want a spoon just ask- no judgement was given.) Bar food, yes please! I love me a BURGER. lol. no but seriously, I love burgers, lol, and this one didn't disappoint. I mean, everything here is fresh so... what can I say. Delish. The highlight for me though, was the truffle fries. Perfectly crispy, great taste and the perfect combo to a bar food favorite. Thirsty? I don't know that I've seen a more interesting, diverse and plentiful drink menu (featuring non-alcoholic and alcoholic options). My wife got the Organic Ginger Turmeric Lemonade. I got a diet coke. (My wife likes all the healthy beverages, but with a burger... c'mon. I want a soda. I'm really glad that it wasn't an off-brand soda, either... it was diet coke. For a place that is marketed as a healthy restaurant, I have to say, I'm REALLY glad that they kept this as an option. After all, "TownHall believes that healthy does not mean perfect.") The bar was well stocked and ready to sling pretty much anything I might want to have, but in true style they have a pretty awesome alcoholic beverage menu that will mix in the goods as well! (I hear the Green Goddess is something to behold!) So yeah, the food is pretty amazing and I can't wait to go back and try pretty much ANYTHING they have on the menu. TownHall goes beyond food though. There's an ethos that permeates everything here. There's a focus on slowing down (even though the service and food was quick), being in the moment and really soaking in life. There's an excitement in the air at TownHall about changing the way we eat and think about food.

I'm writing to share how upsetting and uncomfortable our experience was during a recent visit to your restaurant. We came in to celebrate a birthday, but instead we left feeling dismissed, unwelcome, and frankly, discriminated against. When we arrived, we asked to sit outside and waited to be seated, which we didn’t mind. After about 10 minutes, we were sat outside. Then, not long after we received menus and water, staff came over and told us to move inside — without asking, without explaining, and with an obvious sense of urgency to just get us out of the way. The entire situation felt like we were being shuffled around without any consideration. What really pushed things over the edge, though, was how we were treated during the birthday celebration. We asked twice if someone could bring out the birthday lights or do a quick song — something we saw being done for other tables around us. Both times, we were shut down. Yet throughout our meal, we watched staff celebrate birthdays for other groups with no issue at all. It was hard not to notice that we were one of the only visibly ethnic parties in the restaurant — and every group that received birthday attention appeared to be white. The difference in treatment was blatant. Whether intentional or not, it felt like we were being treated differently because of who we are — and that’s unacceptable. UPDATE: Had a great experience here! The food was awesome and the service was super friendly. We started with the cauliflower lettuce wraps — they were nice, and the kitchen was kind enough to modify them for my nut allergy, which I really appreciated. The cauliflower was seasoned well with a tasty bang bang sauce on the side. I do wish they were a little crispier, but still solid. For entrees, we had the surf and turf roll and the wagyu steak with truffle fries. Everything tasted fresh and was absolutely delicious. The whole vibe was great and we’ll definitely be back!

we asked to be seated outside but got a table inside so we asked if we could be moved and they were nice about it … but that’s where the kindness really ended. our server would walk past us and not even make eye contact to get to the table behind us and spent so long talking with them just to walk past us again with out a word. she’d get irritated any time we asked her if we could order if didn’t matter if it was drinks appetizer (1) or food, we were consistently an inconvenience to her so every answer i narrate from her imagine it came with this annoyance i cannot even describe. once we finally got to order our food the table next to us had already gotten their drinks, a free round of shots(mind you they gave a sob story about forgetting their ids and she still served them alcohol but we simply asked about some high noons and she asked for ours right away) and their appetizers (multiple) we asked when ordering is the fries came with aioli she said yes. we all place our orders and waited. out food was brought to us by another girl who in the ten seconds she interacted with us gave us more hospitality than our server during our whole dining. then we noticed we didn’t get aioli so we clarified with our server that the fries came with aioli she said we were right and brought us two little side of it. there were four of us with an order of fries each …why would you bring just two? this isn’t a big deal but combined with everything we felt with up to that point it was really hard to not be annoyed. so we asked her if we could have two more and again we were treated as if we were the biggest inconvenience to her life. she brought us two half empty little canisters of aioli messily filled. by that point our waters were empty but we didn’t hold our breath for a refill. then as i pick up my last fry she appears and asks if she can take my plate while she’s already holding it so yea i suppose. and she does the same disappearing and then reappearing to take out plates as soon as we’re done. dare i say the fastest she’s ever showed up to our table until that point. she really wanted us OUT of there. it was so disappointing and ruined our whole experience which is sad because the food was really good. i hope she learns how to be a better human being. for everyone’s sake. i’ve read other reviews and i have to agree this is a very racist environment and they do everything in their power to discourage black and brown people from dining in. please do your self a favor and avoid coming here. we’re obviously...

When I tell you, it was so good I didn't think to take one single picture. I should have but I just couldn't get my brain to stop thinking about how outstanding every single thing was while my family and I were there. I have traveled the united states many times, and I have never, EVER, received the service I did at this restaurant. Not only was it somewhere I could actually eat (thank you God they don't use seed oils, they had organic food)! The food, coffee, desserts, wellness shots, the BROTH, oh my goodness that saved me! Pregnant women, this is where you want to get broth! Oh my, all the things on the menu just absolutely worth every penny! I have morning sickness and I was struggling, did that stop any person working from being the kindest human alive? No they went above and beyond. They made sure I had huge pillows to sit on so my hips didn't hurt. Plus extra back support. They always had my water full. They played with my kids. They made sure I could eat something on that menu even though I had to try 4 different times (thank you to the unborn baby I'm growing LOL) The generosity, in how much they wanted to take care of us all was something I don't think I will ever find anywhere else. This restaurant is it, they have it all. And then to top it all off, the BURGERS. I don't know what they're doing in that kitchen, but the only conclusion we could come up with, is that they are using magic. I've never had any burger taste the way theirs did, they know what they're doing here. We came for what was supposed to be one birthday dinner. And it was so good, we ate there for every single meal the next day too. We couldn't help it, we all didn't want to go anywhere else after experiencing the delicious food and getting an experience no one else can give. If you're here and you don't know where to go, look no farther, they will do it right and it will be amazing! I am counting down the literal minutes, until we can come back again! Thank you Townhalls workers for everything you gave to us and for making my birthday the BEST birthday I have ever...
