Decided to stop in for dinner as it was mine and my husband's ten year wedding anniversary. I had heard great things about this place never been here and was very excited to try it. Unfortunately my excitement dwindled.
When we walked in and was greeted by the hostess she acted like we were bothering her she looked us up and down rolled her eyes and scoffed. She hurriedly led us to our table.
Soon after the waitress approached us she took our drink order (soda). And we ordered an appetizer as well (bacon cheese fries) she rushed us through ordering our appetizer and felt like she didn't give us time to decide. She hurriedly walked off and I saw a couple of good looking mix drinks go by other people have ordered. When she came back she gave us our Cokes and quickly dropped the fries on the table. Before she turned around i asked her for a drink menu (alcohol) she's like "yeah..." In an annoyed voice
When she comes back I take a look at the menu and after what felt like maybe 20 seconds "do you know what you want yet?" I picked a random Martini off the menu and she walked off again. She comes back with the drink and takes my food order I order crab cakes potatoes and mac and cheese my husband orders a cheeseburger with bacon. I was not expecting my food to be good after the service I have received so far but surprisingly it was delicious.
When she brought us our food she slid it onto the table very fast and my Mac and cheese almost fell off the plate. She's scurried off before I could say anything.
I was only eating for a few minutes and was about halfway through the meal when she comes by the table with my bill and a to go box like she wanted us to leave. I was going to order dessert since it was a special occasion but after the treatment I received I decided I am not giving that place anymore of my money.
The waitress was very polite and attentive to the table of nicely dressed ladies that was next to us like she was fishing for a tip. Versus us a couple who was casually dressed. (I assume that's why the hostess looked us up and down) We were prepared to tip her at least 25% if we had good service. ( We did not) I worked in customer service I understand how important tips are.
And for reference it was not busy at all.
Let This be a small lesson of do not judge a book by its cover. In all honesty I have gotten better treatment from the McDonald's workers down the street.
I like to rate a restaurant on their food quality and their service. The only reason this place has three stars from me is because of the food being so tasty. I am still debating on giving this place a second chance. I don't want to pay for bad...
Read moreExpressing my dissatisfaction with the service and experience during my recent baby shower event held at your establishment. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected, and I feel it is important to share the details in hopes of preventing future issues for other customers.
Initially, when I attempted to book the party room for my baby shower, the details and pricing were changed just two days before the event. During this process, I had an extremely unpleasant interaction with the owner, Austin, who was both rude and unprofessional. Despite my frustration, I proceeded with the booking due to the time constraints and the limited options available.
The issues continued during the event. Approximately 45 minutes into the party, Austin entered the room and expressed frustration over the number of guests, even though we had discussed and confirmed the number of attendees ahead of time. We had specifically chosen the 50-person room, as our guest count exceeded 30. Additionally, despite having over 30 guests, we were only provided with one server for the entire duration of the event, which resulted in slow service.
Austin’s behavior escalated when he confronted my mother in front of the entire party, which was both unprofessional and embarrassing. After this incident, he did not return to check on us or offer any assistance for the remainder of the event. His only involvement after that was at the end of the party when it was time to settle the bill. At this point, he once again became confrontational with my mother, which only further soured the experience.
We had signed a contract for $600, with the understanding that any amount not spent on food or beverage would be charged as a difference. However, the final bill was significantly higher than expected. The total amount exceeded $700 due to unexpected charges for taxes and gratuity, which were not disclosed in the original contract. Furthermore, we were repeatedly accused of having guests who had eaten but not paid, even though everyone was accounted for at the table.
Austin’s conduct throughout the event was consistently rude and dismissive, making us feel like we were unwelcome and not valued as customers. To summarize, my first baby shower experience was severely impacted by slow service, cold food, and a lack of professionalism from the owner and staff.
I will be escalating this matter to the appropriate channels, as I believe it is important to address this poor customer service. Based on this experience, I will not be returning to your restaurant in the future, and I will be advising others to avoid booking...
Read moreIt had been 2 years since I had eaten here at Afton Tavern. We had a party of 8 going out to celebrate my getting some good numbers after my latest chemo session.
Had reservations for 6pm on Saturday. Got there at 5:45, and our whole party was there. Got seated about 6:15, after they added 2 chairs at a round table that recently had 6.
Food was good. Won't argue that point and the people in the kitchen know what they are doing. The problem is getting the food and drinks to the people. Our server was either overwhelmed, new, completely apathetic or some combination of all three.
We all ordered water with our initial drink order. 2 people got water, until about halfway through dinner when we mentioned for the THIRD time that only 2 people received water. While ordering our appetizers and entrees, a few of us order beers. Again one person didn't get their beer until deserts came out.
One person got the completely wrong order ( got a bacon cheeseburger and had ordered the chicken sandwich), one person got the wrong side, one person's order was missing some add-ons they had asked for on their sandwich. We made the mistake of asking for a few items like butter, the missing add-ons and our water.
By the time those items arrived, food was cold, someone was still missing a beer and plates were just building up on our table from appetizers. entrees and drinks as our server never bothered to clear our table. He was working the party of 16 with another server that was right in my field of vision. Apparently both he and management decided that table was more important than us as I counted them getting 3 individual rounds of drinks before everyone at our table even got our 2nd. We found a tray and bussed our own table of empty plates and glasses.
Bad, even atrocious service happens. Some restaurants just book beyond their capacity or fail to allocate the right number of people to take care of large parties. What really disappointed us was just the complete lack of contrition or attention from our server and from the manager after one of our parry went to find them. Not once did either apologise for the lack of effort on their part, and the server actively avoided coming back to our table, the manager brought us our bill.
There are too many good restaurants around to have to deal with service and...
