I was looking for a new place to have our Friday Night Date in the Gables I saw very good reviews and interesting photos of Amore. I said let’s give it a try and here is the result:
By the time we arrived (6pm) the restaurant was completely empty inside and only 2 tables with people outside, for us this is a plus since we like the ambience of calm and relaxing.
Naiara greeted us and let us pick any table we wanted, she then was our server for the night and I must say, she was very attentive, her suggestions were well received, and never rushed us, so I give her a solid 5 stars!
The food was good but not great, we started with Burrata con Prosciutto di Parma, plus their amazing little breads with olive oil. As a main course My L ordered the Corvine al Limone that comes with Champagne Risotto, and I got the Pork Ossobuco that comes in a bed of “Champagne Risotto” (as per the menu) but it must be a different Risotto since it’s dark yellow, almost red. The explanation is that it’s a Champagne based Risotto with some of the red sauce from the Pork.
IMO both Risottos are good but a bit over on the salty side, I’m pretty sure the vast majority of people will love it like it is, but going lower in sodium has an easy fix, the other way around is not fixable.
Out of those plates the Corvine al Limone with the light Champagne Risotto was the clear winner, the portion of the fish was very generous and the Risotto had less salt. The Ossobuco is definitely a larger portion but nothing too memorable and it was very salty.
The wine list of this restaurant needs a severe revision, Naiara gave me a little taste of one of their best wines by the glass and it was near undrinkable for me, good food should always be paired with good wine and they are really lacking in this department.
When we were about to leave we saw this guy setting up to play sax, so we decided to stay another 15-20 min to hear him play. The guy was really good, he plays very smooth. He played a mixture of old classic (Jazz) and some newer pop songs arranged for Saxophone. We will arrive a little later to enjoy the music next time!
We’ll definitely be back to enjoy the nice atmosphere, to listen to some Jazz and eat different dishes hopefully lower...
Read moreAs a foodie and a native New Yorker, I will admit my standards are high. But I thought the food at Amore was merely okay. Not great. Though my appetizer of fried calamari was cooked to perfection, my Chicken Marsala baffled me. On one half of the plate were two small pieces of chicken, with a few mushrooms and very little sauce; on the other, a messy pile of pale, dry-looking spaghetti. Together, they made for a very lifeless, unappetizing picture. A quick twirl of my fork confirmed that the pasta looked dry because it WAS dry – as far as I could tell, aside from the flecks of parsley sprinkled on top, it had no sauce or dressing of any kind. As for the service, I've had worse. Unfortunately though, the meal started off on the wrong foot with a testy back and forth between my friend and our waitress over a simple order: a vodka gimlet. I don't think the girl had any clue what a gimlet was. When it finally did arrive, it was made to perfection,...
Read moreVery disappointed. The server was very friendly initially, but then we lost them because they had way too many tables to possibly give decent service. Our Calamari was tough, rubbery and cold by the time it came out. We had no silver ware and had to get up and ask for some. We then had to ask for bread as our meal took so long to arrive. Had to ask for refills on our water. We had to get up and ask someone to check on our meal after waiting 30mins. The host said he had seen our dinner 'up there' and would bring it out, making us feel that it had been sitting under the hot lamp for too long. When it came out my carpaccio was flavorless and had gristle that I had to chew on and leave on side of plate. My poor daughter was so hungry by the time the food came, she ate her clams and pasta, although she said it smelled funny. Needless to say she got home and ended up on the toilet all night. We felt cheated and will...
