Nestled right on the iconic Miracle Mile, Mai Sushi Tapas Bar is one of Coral Gables' newest spots. I decided to come eat here after a while feeling under the weather. My fiancé didn't join me this time (gasp), but she still vicariously ate through pictures I sent her. Upon entering I was immediately taken care of and was sat at the bar per my request. The restaurant itself is just what you expect from a Coral Gables spot. It has a cool flair to it. It is much smaller than other places so expect to wait if you're a bigger party on a busy night. To start things off I order a Manju Junmai Ginjo which was so sweet and easy on the palate. Then I ordered my food and really just went for it. I ordered two orders of sashimi featuring the hamachi and unagi. I ordered an uni sushi. And I ordered the 8 piece assorted sushi box. Once my order was taken care of I was sat waiting for a while. This allowed me to watch some anime (the OG Gundam was being projected onto a wall so that was dope to enjoy) while I waited for my food. Once it came out I was able to dig in and wow, let me just say this was amazing. Each cut was perfect and delicious and perfectly paired. The hamachi and unagi went so well together with the hamachi being cold and unagi hot. The assorted box could be eaten any way you'd like but I opted to do it in order from top left to bottom right and wow. Each sushi had such a fun unique flavor profile and was such a delight. The uni was a flavor bomb. One bite of it and I knew it was easily my top bite of the night. Once I finished my food I had to inquire about dessert. It is NOT featured on the menu but rather is word of mouth. I opted for the Chicha Morada Ice Cream which was such a nice refreshing palate cleanser to end the night. Overall though, this was such a nice surprise. We had been wanting to come here for a while and to see it actually lives up to the hype was so great to see. I will say the total cost was a tad high, but it's Coral Gables so ya gotta roll with it. Regardless, I will definitely be coming here again (with my fiancé) to enjoy some bangin sushi! But until next time, folks!! Enjoy...
Read moreIf you’re looking for an elevated, soul-satisfying dining experience, look no further than Mai Sushi. From the moment we sat down for their omakase and sake pairing, it was clear this was going to be something special — and it absolutely exceeded every expectation.
The meal began with a delicate scallop bite that instantly set the tone: buttery, fresh, and expertly balanced with just the right touch of acidity. It was the kind of bite that makes you close your eyes and just feel the craftsmanship.
Then came the toro — rich, silky, and impossibly tender. Every piece melted on the tongue, leaving a trail of umami that paired beautifully with the crisp, floral notes of the first sake. The pairings throughout the night were spot-on, thoughtfully enhancing each course rather than overpowering them.
But Mai Sushi didn’t stop at seafood. Just when we thought we couldn’t be more impressed, out came perfectly cooked lamb — juicy, flavorful, and aromatic — followed by a decadent pork belly that was slow-cooked to perfection. It had the ideal ratio of fat to meat, with a caramelized edge that was just divine.
The sheer amount of incredible food was staggering, but somehow each course felt purposeful and refined. Every dish was a highlight in its own right — no filler, no shortcuts, just a continuous flow of creative, balanced, and beautifully...
Read moreI was very impressed! Eating at Mai Sushi has been my best Miami sushi experience so far. I've tried about 20 places, and this is the only one that warrants a review. Firstly let me say this place makes their soy sauce and it is incredible! We tried the Kissing Dragon Roll, Samurai Breakfast Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and the Vegetarian Roll. The last two were happy hour specials as well. All four were delicious with largely varying flavors. We also had six skewers, all great, but the Panko Shiitake and Marinated Pork were 🔥. The Uni Pintxos Trio was crazy if you like sea urchin, and we finished with a giant deep fried mochi in a delicious sweet and savory sauce. We washed everything down with $2 draft beer, hot sake, and some delicious sweet coconut sake. All in all, this was an amazing experience and a great value. With the amazing service and their happy hour specials, this a must try! I am going back to try some lunch items and even more sushi! I can't recommend this place enough. Finally, a great sushi spot that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! Update: Went back and tried so many things that I wish I would have photographed before I inhaled it. But, I got the Strawberry Pintxos and it was sweet yet fairly balanced and even the mint garnish tastes different. The toast underneath provides and...
