We went to the Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill in Coronado as a party of 4 for a family birthday celebration and had the most spectacular time. Our server, Savannah, truly had her finger on the pulse when it came to her knowledge of both the food and beverage menus. She was the most attentive server and just the sweetest person. Both managers, Sean and Thomas, took fantastic care of us, checking in frequently and even delivering food to our table. The evening was perfectly executed by all of their staff, right down to the hostess, Gianna, who made sure everything was prepared for us when we arrived, including a window table with a stunning view. The food was beyond delicious as well. We all ordered seafood, and it could not have been more fresh. Needless to say, we felt like we were treated like A-list celebrities all night between our server and the managers on duty. I'm including this information because I think it speaks so highly of the professionalism at this restaurant. We had previously come here for a celebration a while back and had some mishaps. Instead of leaving a bad review, I picked up the phone and called them, asking to speak with their general manager, Derik, to relay our experience. I spent nearly a decade working in the restaurant industry, so I know how much everyone behind the scenes truly wants to get things right. Derik was so wonderful, following up via email with an invitation for us to return for a dinner on them, as well as a tour of the historic building and a photo-op at the crow's nest. Sean lead the tour, and it was phenomenal. His knowledge of the building's history was astounding (it was a prototype for the Hotel Del Coronado), and his recommendation to check out the public art installation adjacent to the parking lot was spot on (don't miss it!). He is just the loveliest gentleman as well. Our meal, a true celebratory feast, was completely taken care of by them, as promised. I brought cash for gratuity and made sure we took excellent care of our stellar server. This was overall the most amazing evening we have ever had at a restaurant. I highly recommend the Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill in Coronado. Thank you Sean, Derik, Thomas,...
Read moreWe decided to have lunch here because it was right on the water and the menu had options for everyone in our party. When we arrived we were promptly seated on the outside deck which had great views of the marina. We sat for about 5 minutes when a very friendly waiter came over and said he would be right back, about a minute later a different waiter came over and asked us for our drink and appetizer order, he took it and walked away. Before he returned with the drinks the first friendly waiter came back over and we told him someone already took our order, he seemed confused as to why since he was servicing all the other tables on the deck but smiled and walked away. Our drinks and appetizers were brought out by another staff member not our waiter. The taste and quality of the appetizers was fine. We sat with empty appetizers plates for about 15 minutes until our waiter finally came back and asked us for our lunch order. We placed our order and he walked away, he never asked if we needed drink refills, my iced tea glass and my sons water glass were empty. Our lunch order came out and I had to send my son's burger back because it was so well done that it was uneatable, mind you it was ordered medium. I had to wave the first friendly waiter down to request the burger be made properly, he immediate took the dish and apologized, our waiter never came back to check on us or if we needed anything. It took almost 20 minutes for the burger to come back out, at this point everyone else was finished eating. The staff person who brought it out apologized and asked if we needed anything, I asked for refills on my iced tea and my sons water, these never came nor did our waiter until he returned with the check. The food itself was decent, a bit overpriced but I can over look that for the location. The service is horrible, we were there for almost 2 hours for lunch. We watched several other tables be seated, eat and leave before we even had our lunch on the table, because of this I definitely would not recommend...
Read moreBluewater Boathouse is a 3-story, water front restaurant looking out from the east side of Coronado on to San Diego Bay. As quaint as it is functional, the building is a wonderful combination of whitewashed exterior, red roof, window shutters and planked staircases. Water views out the windows and gentle breeze as the evening closes in, it is the perfect boathouse setting.
On our first vista here I wanted to try their fish and chips. My choice was the fisherman's platter which was planko shrimp, bay scallops, and two beer battered fish fillets, all items fried. It came with a wonderful small loaf of hot bread and butter to start. I had a cup of New England clam chowder as an appetizer, which was actually a bowl and was excellent. The fish was nicely cooked, still flaky and firm but not too watery or dry. The shrimp was nice too. Neither item was spiced at all, so I added a touch of salt and pepper. The chips were nice crispy kettle cooked potato thins. My wife had a burger which was large and very tasty- big enough that she couldn't finish it and asked for my help. It was very good. We finished the meal with a slice of key lime pie which was excellent.
The food was very good though not spectacular (which is the only reason my review is 4, not 5 stars), though I am guessing that was partly due to my selection on this visit of more low cost items (burger, fish and chips). I'll have to return again to try some of their featured seafood.
The staff was excellent, very attentive, and accurate on everything. From seating us quickly (we were walk-ins) to handling our orders, bringing out complimentary bread, and even opening the window shutters behind us to let the breeze in - the staff was spectacular.
I'll return again, hopefully with reasons to give the...
