We wanted to take our kids for ice cream after walking the beach. A sign listed gelato at the Hotel Del, so we went to find that. It isn't super clearly marked out if you're coming from the beach area, we used Google maps walking directions, otherwise I likely would've had to ask someone. It's tucked behind a cafe shop and pizzeria, and the sign is fairly small. Perhaps if we were coming from the other direction it would have been more noticeable.

They have popsicles and gelato. You can customize either. The prices aren't exactly shocking for the Del, but I really can't say a popsicle is worth $9 something with tax. I was very glad they had non dairy options. I had the strawberry kiwi popsicle. My kids got two scoops of gelato and a waffle cone each. Somehow a simple beach wall turned into a $50 ice cream run. Wow.

Lots of flavors. Staff was very nice and helpful. They were very patient as they waited for my youngest to make up her mind on what she wanted. The popsicle design was cute. Flavor was good but nothing spectacular. But again, I had the non dairy option. And we got to eat gelato and watch the waves crash. So cute experience. Likely won't do again because I think I could buy a few months of ice cream...

Finished lunch and was looking for a sweet afternoon 🍦. Was served up a what looked like a delicious chocolate cone, couldn't wait!! Went to check out and was prompted for a tip, pressed other since I wanted to tip more for the fine workers who choose to serve delightful treats instead of choosing not to productivity contribute to society. Shorty after pressing other, James T from Smallville, CA (not an actual city) said "awkward," insinuating I was either not going to tip or do a lower tip than their base 18%. The unfortunate entitlement cost James any tip since I handed the cone back and wished him well in his personal journey, climbing the corporate cone ladder.

I do encourage the hotel to up their customer service and perhaps reassign James to another more suitable, less customer...

Bad service.

I asked for cookies and cream and the girl unenthusiastically gave me the wrong flavor. Could’ve been chalked up to not hearing me fully, so that part is fine I guess.

She asked if I wanted second flavor I said cookies and cream and she proceeded to give me half a scoop of melted sludge of cookies and cream.

I tried saying “actually I don’t want that” and she layed it on top of the other flavor anyway and said “here you go” very quickly as if to dismiss me and stop me from saying anything. I know she heard me and why would you give anyone melted icecream from the bottom of the tub anyway?

It still tasted sweet I guess. But...

It’s a hot day for ice cream!!! It’s so nice to have this gelato and paleta shop in hotel del Coronado, I mean it’s really necessary. People enjoy yummy desserts in vacation, especially in a beach vacation. The shop looks really cute, beautiful gelato and paleta choices. I ordered a berries & agave paleta, which is pretty delicious. I definitely loved it. The only thing is that I feel it’s a little too over priced. I paid almost $9 for one paleta. I know it makes sense to sell pricier things at here, but it is a little too over priced.
