The hospitality at Coronado Beach Resort is unsurpassed (I have used RCI extensively, so I have fairily vast experience with its Gold Crown Resorts).
Liani M, Eric and Jennifer were the staff members with whom I had the most contact. My compliments to the Human Resources Department that had the good sense to hire them. Housekeeping and maintenance folks must be great, too, because the results of their efforts was evident.
The location is hard to beat--right across from the Hotel Del Coronado on Orange Avenue. Restaurants abound from the resort to the ferry landing, the beach is an easy walk, a little theater and lots of little retail shops are nearby. The bus stops right at the corner and a free shuttle takes guests to Lowes, which has a larger spa and pool available to CBR guests.
No car needed for this vacation. I hopped onto a MTS bus ($1.25 for seniors), took a $5 ferry to Coronado, and then took another bus ($1.25) right to the resort. (If it had been anything but Sunday, I could have gotten there on two buses without the ferry.)
Guests and owners here have amply opportunity to get social. The deck on the third floor has the "best view of the top ten resorts in Coronado' according to a tourism blurb I read ahead of time. It is lovely. Chairs and tables are adequate and there are two large barbecues available. There's an owners' lounge (open to all guests) on the second floor with a big screen TV, pool tables, games, etc.
The one-bedroom unit I had was very comfortable. There was a small balcony off of the living room and another off the bedroom. Both rooms had flat screen TVs and the living room has a gas fireplace.
The kitchen had ample cookware and dishes, a dishwasher, coffee maker, blender, etc. Cosmetics such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion were provided and replenished upon request. The same was true of the coffee, tea, cocoa and popcorn.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, trash was emptied and towels exchanged--but daily maid service is available (if requested) at no additional charge. Beach towels are exchanged by the front desk as used. Bikes, beach chairs and various other equipment is loaned at no charge to guests.
Although the resort is about 24 years old, the room showed no wear and tear. The decor was attractive and modern.
There is a $25 daily resort fee (plus tax) for nonowners, but I felt the charge was reasonable in light of all the wonderful services, supplies and activities offered.
I had wanted to stay at this resort for some time. It did not...
Read moreEDIT: I just spoke with Eric at the hotel and he was very upset to hear about the experience I had, and apologized to me. He asked me to come back and give them a second chance, and I intend to do that sometime in the next few months. I will edit my review after staying there for the second time.
I had a pretty bad experience here overall. (Please note: the front desk is NOT staffed 24/7!) My problems started when I called to notify the hotel that I'd be checking in very late in the day, around 9 pm, and the attendant offered to text me the parking garage code and a reserved spot number. I said that would be great - but the text never came. After checking in and getting the code/spot in person, I parked in the garage, but they didn't give me any directions on how to get up to my room - and the right door isn't even marked! It's just a blank door that gives no indication on where it leads to, so I'm glad I guessed correctly where to go... but staying by myself as a single female it didn't feel great to be wandering around making guesses at 9 pm. Once in my room, I realized that I'd forgotten my phone charger at home, so I called the front desk to ask if they had any spares. I expected them to say no, it was a last resort - but in addition to saying no the attendant was completely unsympathetic and unapologetic. He recommended I drive out of Coronado and back into San Diego to find a store that sells them. Totally unhelpful. In lieu of a charged phone, I asked for a wake-up call at 5 am, but he said that he would be leaving soon and no one would be at the front desk until 7 am, so a wake-up call wouldn't be possible. What?! Apparently they can't even do an automated call. Lastly, in the morning I wanted to connect to the wifi network, and I found a little card in the room that offered a phone number to text if you have any questions. Connecting to wifi was specifically offered as an example question, so I'm not the first person they didn't tell upon check-in. The card promised a prompt response, 24/7. Skeptical, I texted it asking for the wifi password. It's been a day and I STILL haven't gotten a response. Plus, the room was dated and felt old, and the street noise from cars driving by was surprisingly loud (I was on the first floor). Good location, but definitely not worth the...
Read moreIf you are looking for a resort a great location, close to the sand but which won't hurt the budget, look no further than the Coronado Beach Resort. The property is gorgeous, the staff is unbelievably friendly and helpful, and the property has been recently remodeled. There is gated underground parking, an elevator which takes you directly up to the lobby or to your room, and there's even a rooftop lounge with patio, spa and some rather nice views. Two things particularly impressed me about this resort: first, the beds were incredibly comfortable. When I travel, I often have difficulty getting a restful sleep, but not here. The bed was just perfect, and to my surprise, there was a swan made from towels on the comforter, much like what one finds when on a cruise. The second thing which really stood out for me about my stay was how enthusiastic-to-serve the employees are. I rode an elevator with a gentleman named Ramon. He asked what floor I was heading to, pressed the button and said, "You know, in January I will be working here 21 years! If you need anything at all, my name is Ramon and I am here to help you." He pointed at the embroidered name on his shirt as he told me this. I didn't need Ramon for anything, but I sure knew that had a need emerged, I had an advocate on the property. The rooms, too, were wonderful. There was new, patterned carpet, nice drapes with the extra layer for darkening the room, thick crown moulding and baseboards, and I had a fireplace and a patio with views to Coronado Bay. There was a kitchenette area with granite counters, a stainless steel refrigerator and thankfully for me, plenty of electrical outlets to charge my devices. The flat screen TVs on the wall worked just as I had hoped and were connected to DVD players. I was here for the National Association of Realtors 2015 conference and was very pleased that I enjoyed a restful sleep and had everything I needed during my stay. I'm looking forward to returning to this resort with my wife and kids very soon and highly recommend...
