Update on this review: We returned a month later to The Dive after I was contacted and invited back by the hotel manager, Sean, after my first review. This time was a much more pleasant experience. We were greeted by a lovely hostess, Sam, and had a friendly server name Amarillis. It again took a while to get our menus and drinks, but this time they apologized and acknowledged it. We received our food promptly and enjoyed our meals. We had the fish tacos, the sliders and the shishito peppers. We had a nice table with a view of the sunset. I feel confident that in the next few months they will continue to improve their processes, as the hotel manager, Sean, is very committed to this happening, and therefore will definitely return in the future.
Terrible experience. We went on a Sunday at lunch time and place was pretty much empty. There was no one there to greet us, so we stood there awkwardly. Then we were rudely told to "sit wherever we want" (we had made a reservation). So then we did and then were ignored for about 30 min. No one came to bring us a menu or a water etc. We knew they had just newly opened (and we ourselves are servers) so we were patient. Again there were maybe two tables and ours and that was it. Not busy in any way. Finally the female server came up and was annoyed we were not ready to order even though we had just a minute before received the menu. So then waited 15 more min for her to return. All we ordered were 2 cocktails and 2 salads. Waited another 20 minutes for our drinks to come and over an HOUR for our salads. The server never ONCE came back to check on us, so we actually had to get up and flag down whom I believe was the manager to ask what was going on with our order. She, not the server, finally brought us our food, but not once did she, or the server ever apologize or offer us any compensation for the delay. Just total attitude like we were putting them out. After we finished and waited again for another 30 min to get our bill, we again had to get up and go to the bar to ask if we could please get our check. We then were rudely told by the male bartender that we "just need to be patient because we are new" I am sorry, but as a fellow server I KNOW that you should never talk to a customer like that. Especially when we were very polite and patient the entirety of the visit. Again, no one apologized or tried to make it better in any way. So very unimpressed and will not be promoting this place in anyway to others. And in addition, the food was terrible and way over priced. Just go across the street to the Hotel Del, where for the same price you can have a better ambiance and they know how to treat their patrons. Oh and btw, we reached out to their team before this review and their food and beverage director, Jaqueline Rixe, responded with the worst response, basically saying "oh well, we did our best" Are you kidding me! She...
Read moreI was thrilled to learn that Dive just opened. I love that Coronado has a few new trendy spots to balance out our tried and true local favorites.
Dive was able to accommodate our spontaneous walk in visit Sunday afternoon. The host was kind and welcoming and we sat at the bar while we waited for a table.
Drinks: my friend liked her bourbon cocktail, but my mezcal cocktail was bland and uninteresting. (Disappointing for a $16 drink!)
Food: we ordered the sliders. Good flavor but a bit dry and hard. They overcooked them. The potato side- something between a chip and a fry- was delicious. We ordered the crab toast, but were served the shrimp toast. One soft squishy piece of toast with something akin to a paste spread on it. Tasteless. The arugula was the best thing about this dish.
The heat lamps were not working. (They’re working on this though.)
The vibe is great. Location is wonderful, right across from the Hotel Del. It’s a beautiful space, but some improvements could definitely be made. I’m hoping these are just new restaurant...
Read moreWe loved the decor, scenery and the overall vibe. Service initially was pretty good, but we were moved to a more comfortable table and got a different server who was very disappointing. To summarize, he didn’t write anything down, we had to wait 10 minutes after getting our appetizers to get set ups, then he didn’t know how many were in our party ( he brought 3 place setting for 4 of us,) we waited ~ 30 minutes for a second beer to be delivered and close to an hour for our entrees. Minimal check ins during this whole time, finally got some assist from the manager and our initial server, but minimal apology for the poor service, just repeatedly told “ I gotcha” when asked where beverages and food were…Lots of potential but quite embarrassed that we brought out of town...
