We had an incredibly disappointing experience here on Saturday, July 5th. We were a party of 9 and meeting my daughter's boyfriend's family for the first time --- it was me, my mom, my 18-year-old, her boyfriend, and his family (his parents, his brother, his grandfather, and his uncle). While we expected some wait on a busy holiday weekend, we ended up waiting over 1.5 hours to be seated—only to watch them give our table away to another party of 9 who arrived much later. Even though we were told it was “first come, first served” and that everyone had to be present to get on the list, that clearly wasn’t followed.
Once we were finally seated, things only got worse. Our server, Scott B., seemed visibly annoyed from the start. He took so long to even approach our table that another female staff member had to step in just to take our drink orders. It felt like we were bothering him just by ordering or asking questions.
We ordered cheese dip as an appetizer, but it took over 30 minutes to arrive. Turns out it had been delivered by mistake to the other party of 9 seated next to us, and they ate it even though it wasn’t theirs. No one checked on us during this time—we actually had to send someone from our table to the front to ask about it. A staff member admitted the mix-up and said they’d remake it and get it out to us. The queso was decent once it finally arrived, and the chips were fresh, but my Bloody Mary was a disappointment—mostly ice, watery, and lacking flavor.
Our entrees took over an hour to arrive. I ordered the fish and shrimp platter, but it came out missing fish. I wasn’t even given a fork, and I had to ask Scott and two other staff members three separate times before I finally got one—all while waiting for my missing fish to be brought out. Scott acted irritated every time we had to ask for anything. When the missing fish finally arrived, it was so salty it was inedible—everyone at the table agreed it was way too salty to eat. The shrimp were just okay—mostly breading with little shrimp inside.
The sides were just as disappointing. The fries were cold, the hushpuppies were room temperature, and the coleslaw—which should have been cold—was actually warm. Honestly, almost everything at the table came out either cold or lukewarm. The only exceptions were the fried green tomatoes my mom ordered and two other dishes—just three hot dishes out of our entire large order.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, the table we were seated at had sharp, splintered wood sticking out from it, which I didn’t notice until it tore my brand new dress—ruining it completely. When I told the manager, he was apologetic and said he would comp my meal to make it right. However, when Scott brought the check, not only was my meal not removed, but he also showed more attitude and expected one person to pay the entire bill. When we asked for separate checks, he acted like it was a huge hassle and was extremely rude throughout.
He also messed up the split checks and initially charged me for items that weren’t mine. Just pointing this out seemed to irritate him even more. After a lot of back-and-forth, I finally got the correct bill—but instead of my meal being comped as the manager promised, they only took 10% off the total bill, which didn’t even begin to cover the ruined dress or terrible experience. By the time we left, we had been there for over four hours.
To top it all off, Scott never mentioned that gratuity was automatically added to the bill. The payment screen was confusing, and I unknowingly tipped again—leaving me with a nearly $70 bill for cold food, rude service, and a ruined dress. My receipt also showed some odd overcharges—my subtotal was higher than expected, and it seemed like additional gratuity had been slipped in.
Between the awful service, poorly handled food, long waits, cold dishes, ruined clothing, and shady billing, this was easily one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. I would never return here or recommend it to anyone—especially if you end up with Scott B. as...
Read moreHorrible experience from the start. Waited 10 minutes for the employees to set up table for a party of 10. Once we get back to the table there were only 6 chairs. Asked for more chairs guy up front looked confused and irritated that we asked for chairs. Then he put 18 menus on the table and just walked off. At this point restaurant is not even half way full. After about 15 minutes we finally get server to take our drink order. Girl took our drink order and appetizer order. About another 15 minutes later our group gets only half the drinks we ordered. A few minutes later the appetizer arrive. Had to ask the server about the other drinks and looked irritated. We ordered two calamari and two ceviche and let me tell you it was a joke. The ceviche was plate of chips with 5 oz cup of tomato with cucumber. The calamari was a 3oz basket with undercooked crumbs of what was suppose to be calamari. The seafood boil and fried family platter were ok. Nothing special at all. Never saw the waitress again after food order. No refills or just to check how food was. We spent 418 dollars on food and sodas which included gratuity for someone who didn't do a dam thing to help us. We had three families all near us get their food faster and drinks way faster than us. Still getting our meals as the other families left. I don't know if it was because we were Hispanic because all the CAUCASIAN families got there food right away. If you are in the area stay away. Service is horrendous. Food was laughable for the price. Could go to long John silvers for the same low grade quality and save hundreds. STAY...
Read moreI was very mixed on what to rate Peir 99. Three stars is for the GREAT service at the front door and bar. Both were phenomenal. The hostess got us the perfect table by the water for our 30 year Reunion. We had a group of ten and knew we would be there awhile. We started at the bar with drinks until our party was there. Bartenders were great! Friendly, outgoing and all about customers. We were taken to our table right by the water to catch up over drinks and dinner. That is where our experience changed. Which is really sad. Several in our have waited tables and we know how to tip well, especially when we camp at a table. Our waitress never smiled or joked or attempted to enjoy here job. It seemed like we were an inconvenience. It took forever just to get water for everyone after 3 trips. We talked over drinks waited awhile till we saw her to order. Then it took over an hour to be served our food. One person had ordered a salad as appetizer and an appetizer item as her meal. She got the appetizer as her app and an hour later had to ask for the salad. To be honest, when we were served our food, it wasn't that good. I was expecting much better fish then it was. Very little flavor. The table next to us didn't even eat. Not sure what happened but they left right being served. We had a great time catching up. The venue was great and bar service great. But wait staff need to smile and be friendly. That is their money maker. That young lady could have had a Great tip to compensate for us camping at her table but unfriendly service almost rude service cost her. We tipped the bare minimum by...
