Due to one EXTREMELY RUDE & DISRESPECTFUL staff at this museum (named “K. Holmes” on her badge), my experience was TERRIBLE and I will NEVER STEP FOOT IN THIS MUSUEM EVER AGAIN! K. Holmes has been nothing but rude, unwelcoming, and treated me and my family as if we were TERRORISTS!!! Trying to write a Recap here of my experience! Me and my parents live in Houston & it was our first time visiting Corpus Christi. On Sunday after breakfast, we decided to explore Downtown Seawall and we noticed the Art Museum wasn’t too far from the beach. As we were walking towards there the weather kept burning and we became dehydrated.! It was quite a long walk but we finally made it to the museum. I guess we were early that day I didn’t realize the museum didn’t open until 1PM on Sundays. It was around 11:30AM at the time we arrived. The gates were open so we went in and was greeted courteously by this nice man who even offered my mom a bottled water when he saw she was suffering from the heat. At that time I did not see K. Holmes. The nice gentleman (unfortunately I didn’t get his name), greeted us in even though we were early and allowed us to sit and cool off from the heat outside. When I was got thirsty and went to ask the nice gentleman if he had an extra bottled water, that’s when I ran into K. Holmes and her face towards me immediately seemed unwelcoming. And didn’t like that the guy gave me one of his own water bottles. that he gave it from his own water bottles. Shortly after, me and my mom started to walk around the museum a little bit to pass some time, and, we came across a restaurant inside the museum that was open. The restaurant seemed very nice and I even asked the people who worked there if it was okay if we just look around and explore the restaurant since it also has a outdoor dining deck which was beautiful! The staff at the restaurant were really nice and said it was not a problem at all and that we could look around. They were very welcoming towards us. And we went to the outdoor area to take some pictures, and it wasn’t a minute or so after that that K. Holmes came inside the restaurant, into the outdoor deck where me and my mom were taking pictures, in front of everyone, asked us “are you guys going to eat here” and I responded back saying “no we asked if we can just look around and the staff says yes “ and she responded back saying “if you’re not going to order anything or eat anything here then I’m gonna have to ask you all to leave.” To avoid further harassment from her, we left the restaurant and then went back inside the entrance of the museum which is connected to the restaurant. what really upset me is she even followed me all the way to the restroom as if I was a terrorist or a criminal. That...
Read moreMy heart genuinely aches for rating only one star. When in fact, the museum was timeless and the exhibits were absolutely breathtaking! The reason my review is so low is because of the elderly, blonde haired security guard and her lack of basic people skills and manners. Perhaps the need to feel like a police officer rather than a Level II. My husband and I homeschool our special needs child and today was “field trip” day. Upon arrival, the security guard collected my bag which contained my sons baby bear that he takes with him everywhere. When I went back to the desk 2 hours later, she refused to give me my son’s bear. Fine… I didn’t make a big deal of the situation. I could tell by her mannerisms that she couldn’t articulate herself well, so instead I thanked her for her hospitality and walked away. Moments later, my husband (professional photographer) decided to photograph our son and I next to an empty space to create our own piece of art, as we did 10 years ago in the very same spot before our son was born. Only to have the security guard send a henchman that came racing towards us, waiving his hands in the air as if he’d gone mad, and demanding that we stop photographing. I never saw any signs not to photograph and they didn’t say anything to any of the other patrons. By this time, we we’re starting to experience feeling unwelcome. As we proceed through the exhibits, the elderly guard yells at us from the first floor that she’s watching the cameras. I’m not really sure why she felt the need to mention that to us, considering our intentions were to admire the artwork in a respectful manner. We are not art thieves, we are business owners and have made many donations to the arts. Shortly after, we encountered a nice young lady that was taking measurements for a new art piece, and my son wanted to express his gratitude for the museum. While we were complimenting the staff members and Director, the elderly guard approached and stood there staring and listening to our conversation. As the guard addressed the Director of the museum, Ms Morgan, by “HEY!! ” we politely made our exit. This guard was rude and overstepped her boundaries. I understand that it’s unfair to rate the entire experience on this basis, however it highly impacted...
Read moreThis has been a horrible experience while visiting with my service dog. Upon entering the museum I was immediately harassed by the security guard about my service dog. She told me my dog needed to be on a leash. I explained to her that the leash interferes with her tasks and that I maintain full control over my service dog via voice/hand signals and also an e-collar. The security guard stated that she did not care and that I could not enter without a leash. She then called the on-call police to question them about letting me in. I tried to show her the Ada.gov website regarding the use of leash when it interferes with tasks, but she refused to listen to me. The guard then proceeded to tell me that she is only obligated to follow the rules of the university. I guess federal laws don’t apply here! After several minutes of humiliation and harassment I was finally allowed entry into the museum, but not before the guard told me she would be “watching my dog”! The guard then proceeded to followed me through the museum! Due to the mistreatment I received, I ended up having a medical episode which required the services of my dog! The museum should be ashamed of itself for their mistreatment of those with disabilities. I will be filing a formal complaint and also seeking the advice of my attorney to ensure this kind of discrimination never happens again. I’ve attached a photo of my girl working in public, no leash and clearly marked as a service dog! The guard also commented that she didn’t know how comfortable everyone else would be with a “huge German Shepherd walking around”. Clearly the staff and the university need some training in regards to public access rights of those with...
