A new and definitely unique interpretation of..food. A culture of all their own. Two stars due to the fact they do in fact serve Kalamata style olives, and the food does seem fresh, in a way- and also healthy, as this is indeed a light meal. Also the owners apparently engage in some sort of charity, donating $ for each gyro sandwich sold. Hence if you're not feeling hungry, perhaps donate a few bucks to the Jackson street Youth Shelter yourself.
I've only sampled three menu items: chicken gyro, lamb gyro, and babaganouch (their spelling). The meat of both the chicken and lamb "gyro" sandwiches had never been close to a flame, nor to any sort of rotating, roasting device as implied by the name. Rather, the meat was stewed, under seasoned, rather dry. The sandwiches were "edible", but there was much disappointment in my mouth and a little sadness.
The "babaganouch" was unlike any I've ever had. I don't think it is unusual, when ordering babaganoush from a restaurant, to expect something involving roasted eggplant, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice... but one would be hard-pressed to find any of these items in the ~3 ounce plastic ramekin of orange-colored vegetable puree I was presented with. Oddly sweet. A little tangy. The pita triangles were edible, as were the garnishes of a carrot slice, a few olives, not-quite-escabeche onions.
I don't understand how the owners of this restaurant can possibly be in the restaurant business, selling food like this. But maybe it's just me. Try it for yourself, and...
Read moreThe baba ganoush is unrecognizable and bland, and the ratio of dip to dippers (pita, cukes) is unreasonable. The falafel is very dry and chewy, and we found multiple hairs in the wrap after a bite or two, which was horrifying! The chicken shawarma wrap was assembled poorly so all the sauce was in one part of the wrap, and the bland rice with bland chicken was unpleasant. Lastly the maple bacon baklava tastes of neither ingredient and seems to be soaked in turmeric or oil? It was also barely sweet, which may have been ok if the maple flavor at least was present. Most of the food was composted due to being inedible, bland, or unsanitary.
Overall very unhappy and would not recommend unless major changes are made to the preparation, sanitation,...
Read moreWhat an amazing little (quite large actually) place! What used to be a service/transmission shop is now a shiny gold nugget. They have an outstanding local beer and wine selection that’ll knock your socks off, Food carts that’ll suit anyones picky pallet, live events every week (comedy and music), and my absolute favorite part of this rockin’ spot is how family oriented it is. Kids are not only welcome, but are accommodated just as well as the adults. Take a night off and go enjoy the easy way of livin. Grab a pint, chat with family and friend, eat delicious grubbage and find your new favorite band. You won’t be...
