First off a warning about dealing with this store, based solely off our own experience.
ONLY PAY WITH CASH, the last time we were there they charged us for our order and some bogus order, that was a different amount. You would think, ok no big deal, we'll just go back to them and sort out the issue... well that's not how it turned out. It was a pain to get them (specifically the owner conny) to even look through the records. Once we convinced her to do that, she came up with our receipt with our signature on it & some other receipt, that had some other signature on it that wasn't even the same name. The transactions were back to back, so clearly the person after us had their order charged to our card, maybe the card reader wasn't cleared out or something. so, you would think at this point it would be like, 'ok, our mistake; let me fix that for you'. but then she threw a huge fit about how we should be more careful about what we do with our card, and that is must be stolen & it's not her fault & we shouldn't blame her & bug her for a refund and bla bla bla....... basically a bunch of groundless excuses, if the card was stolen why only 1 extra charge at the same restaurant right after our purchase. And 'excuse me' for giving you our card to pay for our food & expecting you to charge us for only our order and not also the person after us. after arguing with her for maybe another 10 minutes after that we got her to give us the money she owed us. All in all, it took well over an hour to correct what was a simple mistake. As a result, we have been so infuriated with the restaurant over this incident that we have decided to never return to the restaurant.
However, as I will attempt to write a somewhat balanced review of the restaurant, I feel obligated to offer my opinions on the rest of the establishment-disregarding their owners treatment of customer complaints.
Food here used to be Excellent, however they have started to switch to lower quality/cheaper ingredients (mainly since switching to their new location) and it shows, food quality has definitely gone downhill. Although it is important to note that everyone's taste in chinese cuisine is different. Day to day the foods taste & quality seems to vary greatly, I can only guess that there is a good cook & a bad cook(or some combination therein) that explains this.
Decor at the new location is also not as good as the old, but still has oriental feel to it, and is acceptable, as it's not really the function of the restaurant.
Servers tend to be decent & courteous most of the time, however there are occasional exceptions as with most restaurants. However, I also feel compelled to mention that the service at this location is not as good as at the old location.
All in all, if you want to eat here: go ahead. However, pay with cash (no way for them to double charge you or anything that way) & try the buffet first if it's your first time there. If you're lucky you might hit them on a good day. If you're thinking of the old location across the freeway when you think of the food; don't bother going, the new location is merely a shadow of it's former self & you'll only be...
Read moreI’ve been eating here since I was a kid. I loved coming in and going to the buffet and seeing the koi fish pond and overall remembering the quality and experience that I’ll forever cherish when Connie and her husband owned the place. I ordered there last night and I somehow got stuck with a $60 total for a pint of fried rice, two orders of wontons and sesame chicken for two people. I physically don’t know how that is possible given that there is no updated menu ANYWHERE online. I asked for a receipt to hopefully see an itemized bill to perhaps justify the cost but no luck, it’s a simple printout showing the total charge. I also found it hilarious that the screen also prompted for a tip, respectfully I skipped. The fact that they have an 8 year old boy taking phone orders, running the register and taking my payment is not only unprofessional but also highly illegal. It’s bittersweet to say but I’m almost glad the place is empty every time I’ve stopped in for takeout. Prices continue to rise while the experience of what Tom Moy used to be falls. There are also about 5 signs saying no refunds and you’re forced to pay first if you dine in and there is a dine in charge you have to additionally pay shows the difference between a restaurant I’d love to come back to and a joke of a business. Last night is the last experience I’ll have here. The owners now should truly evaluate their business practices and learn from these mistakes and customers that have been loyal for years that continue to be lost. It’s only a matter of time...
Read moreI have been a customer for years, food usually good. When they mess your order up though they try to blame the customer. It is very frustrating. Today was really the last straw. I try to be nice, young boy taking orders on phone, checking people out, giving them their food.. He seemed a little overwhelmed. I know what I ordered. He knew what I ordered. But what I got was wrong. Connie looks at the slip that he wrote the order on and said that's what I ordered, but I did not. I ordered szechuan chicken and they gave me a different kind of chicken. I think he missed spelled it, but she argued with me. I also ordered a side of Cantonese noodles. Well they had put 2 Cantonese noodles in the bag they said, so after she made the correct food, they said they would give it to me , but I had to go out and get the xtra Cantonese noodles that was in bag. Just ridiculous. The kid wrote my phone number wrong, wrote my order wrong, and rang up my credit card wrong so he had run it twice also. It's pretty bad that they can not just believe a customer. By the time I got home my food was cold. No apology and they try to make you feel like it's your fault they messed up. This is how they always deal with their mistakes! Just super bad customer service!! Make sure you always double check your order, not that it matters they will blame you anyway! They should of come out to my car to get that tiny side of Cantonese noodles back themselves! ...
