The Anchor Grill is a gem. Doesn't look like much from the parking lot. My daughter and I were a bit skeptical, but the reviews were good, so we went in. It was a bit confusing when we entered. You enter into the take out area. These were the reasons for the 4 stars. We were directed to the dining area. All the items hanging on the walls, the pictures. It was a piece of history for the sea faring workers. After we ate I spent some time walking through the 2 dining areas looking at all the memorabilia. Not a big place, more of a big family atmosphere. We had the special of open faced hot roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy with a side of green beans. Definitely down home cooking. It was delicious. The menu selection wasn't huge. I suspect it consisted of favorite foods. The people working there were so friendly. I spent some time talking to mother and daughter when I paid the bill. They had worked there a lot of years. They had so much pride and love for the place and a lot of history to share. Wonderful home cooked meals you can eat surrounded by history of fishing the river and working the docks. We will go back when we're...
Read moreThis place is cash only and reeks of smoke. The food is a bit overpriced as well. The service was prompt and the food was cooked nicely. (More...)
I had a grilled cheese sandwich (perfect), chili (I usually don't like anyone's chili but this was thick and hearty with a nice flavor), and sweet tea (too sweet & a little stale, but I didn't want to switch drinks because I thought I'd be charged another $2).
My husband had a bacon, egg, & cheese sandwich on white toast, a coke, and an orange juice (he about died when he got his bill for $10).
Our friend ordered the liver and onions (he will be returning for this plate), Mac and cheese (nice and creamy), and stewed tomatoes (he only took one bite).
The place could use a bit of a face lift and the band in a box was out of order, but overall, the decor had the feel of an old diner that has survived the depression and several economic downturns. If you're looking for an old greasy spoon diner and don't mind the smell of smoke, you've come to the right place.
I'm also going to also give them kudos for having private parking in...
Read moreI had an absolutely terrible experience here. This is probably my only 2nd review on google for anything. I have never had a chef salad that had peppers, onions, and tomato slices. The menu is so vague it doesn't even tell you what comes in the dishes, so I sent my salad back. The waitress was very slow, I had to get up and find her to get refills and items she forgot to bring us. It took 45 minutes to get a salad. Theres no room if you have more than 4 people. Being able to smoke inside would be great if they had some kind of fan moving the air around or at least a smoke-eater so other people don't choke on smoke while their eating. The waitresses wouldn't let us use the jukebox because they put money in it and sitting in silence was awkward. I've been told that night shift is much better than day shift, but my family was the only ones in the restaurant at the time and it still took way too long for our food and drinks. Will not be returning until they hire new day shift workers and moving air. The place is too outdated. Fix the individual table jukeboxes to brighten the...
