I put together a little surprise party for my wife’s 35th and invited many of her closest friends here for dinner (party of 14).
The atmosphere and setting was great….the food itself was good….which was about it.
It was glaring early on that our server was either new, swamped, or just not very good. We were seated a good 20 minutes before we even ordered our drinks (some never received their drinks and had to order again). Not sure why our party didn’t have two servers - I’ve never worked in the food industry, but this seemed no brainer-ish.
When finally ordering food, it was noticed our server wasn’t really writing anything down, which would only lead to one thing - messed up orders and forgetting items. Our group isn’t the type to make a big deal out of that - plus the time it would take to fix wasn’t going to be worth it - so those who were wronged, basically sucked it up and ate……the really small portions!
Other than the burger (which looked good) the other items that were ordered wouldn’t be enough for a child, let alone an adult. The eggplant was ordered a few times and two meals may have been enough for one. It was highly disappointing considering how expensive that ‘meal’ was ($28). I ordered the roasted airline chicken, which was merely a large, grilled, chicken wing sat on a plate of pilaf, which was really good, but was a 3-5 bite meal for $30+.
Albeit we knew ahead of time what the cost of the night would be, with how poor our service was, it really didn’t make it worth it. The very few times we saw her, we were asked if ‘we needed anything else’ rather ‘how is everything?’ The non drinkers had to ask for refills every time, while the drinkers would just walk up to the bar themselves to get what they were having.
The drinks and laughs made the night great as we were winding down at 11p (a 3 hour dinner). Took about 30 minutes to receive the checks, which was like playing ‘what did everyone order?’ again…no checks were correct. Realizing we created more work for her, it was to the point where we played check roulette and whichever check she gave you, whatever was on it, was going to be yours.
As I wind down my essay here, I want to end on the automatic 20% tip for parties of over eight. I totally understand the reasoning for this….if it were warranted. Our server made a guaranteed $200 just in tips from our table, AND WE NEVER SAW HER.
It’s a shame my first Google review is this, but it is necessary. Very disappointing and I can’t imagine heading back there...
Read moreAs mentioned the space is gorgeous, but the food was extremely disappointing. I am in from out of town and sad I wasted a meal on this place.
The menu is very bacon and pork forward which is also limiting. Nearly all the dishes include bacon or sausage in some form.
As appetizers, we ordered the bread and ricotta cheese butter and also the fries. The ricotta butter cheese tasted like pumpkin pie and I really didn’t enjoy. The bread tasted good with regular butter. The fries tasted like they came from a frozen bag and not worth 12 dollars. It included ketchup rather than something more interesting like an aioli.
I ordered the broccoli cheddar soup and the wagyu beef with fries. They came at the same time which I think is odd at a fine dining restaurant. The soup was cold and didn’t taste great.
The steak was extremely undercooked and I threw up this morning. The rest of the plate were the same fries as the appetizer that tasted like they came from a frozen bag. I considered them as barely edible. The steak dish may have been elevated with veggies or whipped potatoes. I truly cannot believe they charge 32 dollars for that plate. I am shocked.
My friend ordered the carrot cake and it appeared like it was also not hand made and defrosted.
I am from a large city on the West Coast so used to high prices but do not recommend this place at all other than for the room aesthetic. There is less expensive or similarly priced restaurants throughout NKY and Cincinnati that are MUCH better and worth the expense. This is not one.
If I could give this restaurant no stars, I would.
Update: Spoke with Justin (the general manager) who was very helpful and kind. Helped to make the experience better...
Read moreWe stayed at Hotel Covington and was very impressed with the swanky atmosphere. Saturday night Coppin's was packed and was highly recommended to us for breakfast for the next day. While the food was unique and delicious (chorizo breakfast sandwich gets 5 stars) the customer service was horrid. For a hotel restaurant as nice as Coppin's we were highly disappointed. I notifed the hostess of how we were unsatisfied with the service from the start and asked if it was possible to switch sections, but due to other reservations we were unable. I hoped by expressing my concern, the service would be improved but that was not the case. Our waitress was slow, not attentive at the least, never brought us things we asked for and didn't bother to check in with us throughout our meal. Our waitress did not apologize nor do anything to try to reconcile the situation of bad service. The busser AJ however deserves recognition as he is the only one that did the job of our waitress when she was MIA. Without him we wouldn't have had water, coffee, creamer/sugar as well as he professionally took care of an issue we had with one of our dishes. I joked with him and asked if I could tip him instead because he was doing a great job. I later heard our waitress complain about us and the poor tip while we were still in the connected lobby area. While the food was good there are plenty of other restaurants in the area that will get our...
