We were looking for a veg/pescetarian friendly place to have a late lunch in Cincinnati, and the menu looked very intriguing. It's down on Madison Avenue in Covington, in a section of storefronts that include Art Deco tiled business blocks and newer post-war storefronts. The restaurant is clean, and spacious and tables set neatly. We received prompt service for our early afternoon lunch. The menu is EXTENSIVE and includes a wide variety of vegetarian dishes, along with dishes featuring seafood, chicken. lamb and even goat. We shared a green salad composed of chopped romaine, cucumber, tomato with slightly warm spices and a yogurt-dill dressing. That set us up for main dishes of clay tandoor baked shrimp/onion/green pepper that arrived at the table fajita-style, hot and sizzling and slightly warming and slightly sweet and completely amazing in the mouth. My companion had vegetable balls in a sauce composed of tomatoes, raisins, nuts and cream, along with warming spices we spent some time trying to ID. Even thought we're merely Indian-food-curious, they made us immediate fans, as the meals are a wonderland of flavors and textures, from the intricacies of the sauces to the crispness of the Nan bread and even the unexpected sweet/bitter of sizzling partially-blackened onions. There is a bar, with some interesting ideas in the drink department that we had to pass up, unfortunately. Prices are reasonable, especially given that the dishes turned into leftovers for our evening meal. If you are the least bit interested in trying Indian food, this is the place to start, and your server will help you. If we only lived in Covington, we'd be regulars. Go to...
Read moreI have a mixed feelings about this place. The owners are so nice and polite but my experience was quite irritating. I ordered lamb Kebab and some how I received a chicken kebab. The old nice Indian guy came saying cheese kebabs?! And we said no we ordered lamb kebabs⊠he quickly corrected himself and said yes yes this is lamb kebabs. We started eating and immediately discovered that this is not lamb but chicken. I called the waiter and he said he will check then disappeared. We now got stuck and ended up eating the food we didnât like. Then a second waiter came to check on us and I told him this was not what we ordered and we donât truly like the taste. Instead of correcting the mistake he said again he will go check then came apologizing politely and said he took $5 off the plate price⊠the plate we never liked or asked for! They then brought us and Indian sweet that we are truly not keen of which we ended up leaving behind. I have two problems with this experience. First they lied instead of acknowledging the mistake and correcting it. And when they attempted to correct they were not owning to their mistake and made us pay for a plate that we didnât ask for or like. I donât think the price of that plate was worth our bad experience, and unfortunately i needed to provide them the feedback so here we are.
On a different note, The Bhatura bread was not the best, the chicken Kebab was truly bad. But thr saag Paneer was perfect anf the tandori chicken was OK.
This is certainly not a restaurant that I will visit again. If anyone is interested for a good authentic experience try Brij Mohan in Ohio, or...
