Absolutely incredible in every way! I cant say enough good things about Golden Gelato and only wished we lived closer. We walked across the bridge to get here and planning on doing it again tomorrow (and maybe before the drive for another cone and some pints) before we head back out of state.
The shop is cute, clean, with a lovely indoor and outdoor space to relax and eat. One of the best parts, the service! Just wow. I believe they were the owners, but I have rarely felt so valued and invited anywhere at all. They both had this genuine happiness and kindness even though were came in about 20 minutes before close, and did not rush us in the slightest. We were greeted, asked how we were, and asked if we had any questions or wanted to try anything. I asked for a sample of straccietella, which became an immediate yes, plus a fior di latte. I was bringing a pint home for someone who couldn't make such a long walk on a hot evening, which I casually mentioned upon ordering it. They immediately offered to keep it in the freezer while we ate, and then bag it with ice packs for our return walk. We brought our dog for the walk as well, and when I went inside for the to-go pint, they gave him some free snacks to try out and came to say hello.
The gelato was absolutely delicious, creamy and flavorful without being sickly sweet. Plus the warm, thick waffle cones were unlike anything I have had before. I normally cant finish more than half a dessert, getting bored of the flavor/texture/sweetness, especially ice cream, but I almost considered ordering a second cone since it was just PERFECT. The only dessert I can even compare it with was the small vendors in Europe, home -making small batch ice cream from the local cows and crops. Just wow.
Overall, this was definitely a top overall experience in any aspect - the ultra-kind and no-rush service, cute and clean shop, and world class gelato and cones. If most stores could be half as decent as this one, this world would be UTOPIA.
So, we will back at least once a day until we head back out of state and cannot recommend this lovely establishment enough! Excited to try the sorbets and...
Read moreWhen my husband and I moved to Covington, KY back in February Golden Gelato quickly became one of our favorite places to visit. The plethora of flavors and welcoming owners always made our visits worth while. We went this past weekend with my younger siblings and unfortunately this visit was not at all pleasant. I told my younger brother before entering the building that the restroom was toward the back of the building past the ice cream bar; so when we entered he immediately headed towards the back of the building to find the restroom. I noticed that one of the owners was clearly disturbed by him walking right in and heading towards the back. My husband and I walked up to the counter to order and I noticed the owners start to whisper as if some suspicious activity was going on. They eventually took our order, but the transaction was very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. It was abundantly clear that they bothered by our presence in their establishment. Before we left I saw another guest walk back towards the restroom and their behavior was starkly different. This guest was white. I hate to think that we were treated differently because of our race, but I honestly don’t know why else that would’ve happened. I don’t want to let one bad experience ruin our love for Golden Gelato, but I am so disappointed in how we...
Read moreWhat a great spot in Covington! Beautifully fixed-up exterior draws you into a wonderful shop with friendly service. Love to see affogato offered - along with some solid flavor offerings - and cannot wait to come back to have one in a real glass/mug (rather than a paper cup 😉) outside at a cute cafe table in the spring!
Edit: been back countless times. The great hours, constant interesting rotation of gelato and sorbet, homemade waffle cones, and affogatos (Deeper Roots espresso - the best!) keep me coming back regularly for a nice walk around to enjoy the gelato/sorbet and the beautiful steeples of nearby Mother of God. Of course have to always take a few pints home as well! Some of my favorites are the hazelnut gelato; and wildberry hibiscus, black currant, and lemon sorbets. Think we’ll see some authentic gelato on brioche buns next?? Or a “con crème” option?! Looking forward to what’s next for this wonderful local business.
P.S. really great to see the attention to detail, including the outdoor seating options and recently many new tables and cute yellow chairs in the shotgun...
