Usually Holder's is our go-to place when we are in town. Today, of course, was Sunday crazy, very busy. I still think the staff could have done better by sticking to routine procedure.
We were seated quickly to a cleaned table but it had no place settings. Waitress came quickly and we ordered coffee, milk and breakfast. Other tables near us got cleaned, set up, people seated, drinks ordered AND ARRIVED. We still had no drinks, napkins or silverware.
A later table ordered another tea and it was fetched pronto. I flagged the guy down and said we were still waiting for our drinks. He asked what we ordered and said he'd bring it.
Several minutes later our waitress came with our drinks. Cream was on the table but I had no spoon to stir the hot coffee. Our food came almost immediately after. Still no napkins or silverware to stir coffee or eat the food. As hubby asked for silverware the waitress realized we didn't have any. Finally we got the setups and we could eat and drink. The other guy finally showed up, too late, with coffee and milk. The Mexican burrito and strawberry pancakes were okay.
Since we were eyeing the big multi-layer cakes while waiting for a table, I thought I'd pick up a slice to go for when we got home from our road trip. I already had a beanie baby in my hands to purchase. I set the beanie baby on the counter and ordered the cake. She only rang up the cake, not the beanie baby. She said she'd do them separately. I told her I only had a $100 bill, could she handle that? Yes. Well, no, she only keyed in $100 when I had also given her the 11 cents that was due. No, she couldn't accept the 11 cents. She had to give me 89 cents back. She insisted she had to do what the cash register said. So, you can't do the math in your head: 89+11=100. Fine. I paid for the beanie baby out of the change she had given me. I almost just put it back to leave but I had to wait for my cake any way.
Note to self: Stay away from Holder's during Sunday brunch time. Any other time we have visited...
Read moreThis restaurant denied me, with invisible disability, the right to sit indoors. I brought my service dog, and they insisted that the dog must wear a service animal vest to be allowed into a restaurant under health department regulations, which is entirely false. A service animal is not required to wear a vest, and a restaurant cannot require someone with a service animal to sit outside under ADA. When I pointed that out, she continued to deny us the right to eat indoors. I felt extremely violated, but I also felt uncomfortable having to show my brain injury scar to prove my disabilities from TBI, so we ended up going somewhere else.
To reply to the owner's response: This is the exact restaurant that has denied me with invisible disability to sit indoors. I perhaps have assumed who the owners were; it was an older lady with white hair who told me under the health department, I was not allowed to sit inside because my service dog did not wear a service vest and said we were only allowed outdoors. I came with another male friend.
This is the correct location. I double-checked just now, and it's on the same street as "Kura Revolving Sushi." This happened today, 1/11, around 12-1PM. Also, Santa Clara County's policy on service dogs is consistent with California laws and the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), which states a restaurant cannot deny a service dog (any size or breed of dog) without a vest or the right to sit indoors.
It was an incredibly uncomfortable situation; the restaurant was full, and after I had already let her know it was a service dog, she continued to refuse my right to sit indoors. Like what was I supposed to do? Like show my brain injury scar to prove disabilities? Why should I be subject to such unfair treatment?
It's really disheartening to see that I was not only denied my right to service but also once again rejected when I shared...
Read moreBy far the worst service I have ever received. The restaurant was pretty busy, but somehow the waitress had no problem making sure the 2 tables closest to us were taken care of. One of the people I was having breakfast with didn't even receive her side of toast until we had all decided we were done eating. It took just as long to receive syrup for our pancakes (meanwhile the tables next to us were brought syrup before us, but after we asked). Between the waitress and the person walking around filling up coffees and waters we still couldn't keep water on the table (we each received 1 glass with no refills). I feel like there's more I'm missing on the service piece, but can't remember at the moment. As for the food, I ordered corned beef hash and eggs. My eggs were overcooked, even after asking for replacements, the yolks were not runny. The corned beef was definitely canned and probably the worst corned beef I've ever had. I did have a bite of my friends pancakes, which were light and fluffy. I can't really say that any of the other food served to us looked appetizing either. Also, the $8 I spent on a mimosa ended up being orange juice with a splash of champagne in it. I will never come back here again (and neither will any of...
