LJ's Lil' Cafe — Restaurant in Cypress

I've been hearing so much praise about their breakfast burritos and how tasty and filling they are, but every time I crave breakfast burritos, it's always on Sundays when they are closed. In addition to making bomb breakfast burritos, they also have a lunch menu where they offer hot dogs, sausages and burgers. I have yet to try their lunch menu, but I've heard their Chicago and Seattle dogs are great. While they aren't the cheapest breakfast burritos in town, the price is justified by their quality and generous portion sizes. I had two meals out of my breakfast burrito. A couple tips about this place:

Closed on Sundays Call in your order so you don't have a long wait. The line may look short when you're there, but that's because all the pro people have learned to call in their order Breakfast is served all day until closing at 2pm., but lunch is only served after 11:30 a.m.

|| S E R V I C E || Now I don't typically leave a section for service unless it was an extremely bad or good experience. In this case, I wanted to highlight their service and how it shows they do care about their patrons. I went to place my order in the store thinking that all the hype after 8 months of opening would have died down a bit, so I thought at most it would be a 20 minute wait. Turns out, the hype is real, and the wait time is an hour. No problem, I can chill at Home Depot and try to not buy anything while I wait. An hour passes and I receive a call apologizing that the wait time has extended by 20 minutes. Although I'm hungry, I'm chill with it, because the fact that they remember to inform their patrons about the wait is nonexistent in many places. Less than 20 minutes has passed and I receive a call that my order is ready. To make up for the slight delay, they gave me a voucher to redeem a free burrito at my next visit and provided free drinks as well. Mind you, they provided large sized drinks for us. While the gesture may not have cost them much, it meant a lot to me as a customer. Although they're super popular, they still care about each of their customers.

|| F O O D || OG Burrito ($13.99) - This is one loaded burrito! It comes with (3) eggs, tater tots, Portuguese Hawaiian sausage, bacon , cheese and their special sauce. I've never had a breakfast burrito with Portuguese Hawaiian sausage before so this was a treat. They do not skimp out on the meat at all. What I liked about it was that the tater tots were super crispy despite the burrito being pretty hot off the grill. Not a fan of mushy tater tots in my burrito so this was a huge plus for me. If you're unsure which burrito to choose, you really can't go wrong with the OG burrito.

Queso Burrito ($14.49) - I wanted to get a different burrito to see if it was loaded like the OG burrito, and luckily, it was! Hands down. The best breakfast burrito I have ever tasted. I stopped by LJ's Lil' Cafe on a Friday morning at around 7:50 am. The cafe wasn't busy - 1 person was ordering food and maybe 1-2 people were waiting for their orders. We placed an online order for pick up at 8 am. The order was ready right on time and it was hot and fresh! I got the OG breakfast burrito which has eggs, tater tots, Portuguese Hawaiian sausage, bacon, cheese, and LJ's sauce (kind of like a tangy mayo). The burrito comes cut in half and has the most amazing cheese pull ever. The burrito itself is huge and stuffed with filling - the tater tots were super crispy, the eggs were amazingly soft and fluffy (not rubbery), and I got meat in every bite. I don't like salsa so I got extra LJ sauce and thought it was a perfect complement to the burrito. I recommend you purchase at least 1 extra sauce so you have 2 to eat with your burrito (1 sauce is included). We also got the spicy OG breakfast burrito which comes with hot Italian sausage and grilled jalapenos. I've eaten a lot of burritos in my 50+ years, more than I care to admit, especially to my doctor. I've traveled the world, ventured into street markets, tucked into taco trucks, and chased down culinary legends in dusty little towns. And yet, nothing, nothing has come close to the queso burrito at LJ's.

This burrito? It's not just food. It's a life event. It's like a warm hug from someone who really knows what you've been through. I genuinely can't think of a single way to make it better. Believe me, I tried. I even paused mid-bite, stared off into the distance like a food philosopher, and came up empty. It's just that good.

Oh, and let's talk about that creamy cilantro salsa. Honestly, if you bottled it and sold it as a mood stabilizer, I'd buy it by the gallon. It's herby, tangy, silky, basically the Beyoncé of salsas.

Now, let me just say, this girl can eat, I know my way around a fork. My husband's no stranger to a good meal either. And we split this burrito. Split it! And still found ourselves happily stuffed and a little bit in love, with the food, with each other, with life.
