Chen Family Dish — Restaurant in Dallas

I come here once every 2 weeks or so and bring my friends and will continue to. While I'm not easy to impress with food, I give Chen's my seal of approval for great Chinese-American food and for having the best General Tso's Chicken I've ever had. In fact, I like it so much it takes a lot of willpower to try something new, and when I do, it has always been something that I enjoyed. Mandarin Deluxe, Green Bean Chicken, Oolong tea, Szechuan Chicken, Kung Pao... all very good.

On the menu there is a section called "Chen's Recommended Dishes" In this list there are great ones such as the famous (to me) General Tso's, Mandarin Deluxe, Sesame Shrimp, etc. Tonight I thought to try Walnut Shrimp. What a mistake.

It is described as "Deep fried crispy shrimp and walnut mixed in special honey sauce." All true, except for the very end. Special honey sauce?! Heck no. Let me describe this dish in as few words as possible. Crispy Shrimp on a bed of rice and lettuce slathered with Mayonnaise.

Being such a hungry cheapskate I ignored my instincts and ate as much as I possibly could but I just couldn't do it. The first time in my adult life that I left a plate unfinished except for Thanksgiving seconds or thirds. I had to swish my mouth with Oolong tea to remove the Big Mac Sauce taste. It was disgusting. I just looked up the ingredients and realized I have made this dish at home before and it was so far from similar that it didn't even occur to me that I had.

5 stars minus 1 for poor menu description and then another simply because I now have an intense stomache ache. I'll forgive you for the dish soap flavored Pepsi on my previous visit.

I will return, but damnit, remove that trash from the menu so that someone else doesn't make the same mistake of paying 11 dollars for Big Mac...

Chen Family Dish was a wonderful place to take friends and family. I've had many great experiences with the food and staff.

Unfortunately, about 7 years ago I had to take my business elsewhere due to unprofessional behavior by the staff.

A recent change in my location allowed me the opportunity to go back for a second chance. I was really hoping for an amazing experience.

I must say that the food was delicious and the staff were friendly, but unfortunately my experience took a turn for the worst.

While partaking In a special occasion with an out of town guest. I unfortunately located a single circular twirl of brillo pad in my dinner. I am happy that I found it before I ended up swallowing it, also curious if I ate some that I didn't notice.

I set the Brillo pad to the side after thoroughly inspecting and confirming that it was metal. I checked my plate and continued eating while being careful for my safety.

Shortly after I found a hair, which I also inspected to ensure that it wasn't my own, which turned out to not be mine.

The staff was polite and made me a new dish, which I did continue eating.

Based on my experience, I would have expected a small discount for the mishap and even a sincere apology. When a customer has an experience like this, it's important to ensure they have repeat business. Friends, family and colleagues are all great referrals in small communities.

I gave them a second chance and am rather disappointed that my experience didn't meet basic expectations.

Not only did Chen's lose a potentially loyal customer, I also lost a place that would have provided my family with countless delicious meals.

I might note that even having a poor experience, I left a tip. It's important to treat hard workers appropriately in the difficult world we live in. I wish they had...

Came across Chens Family Dish resturant while visiting the city of Dallas today its located right next to Safeway grocery store. We got there around noon and there were only a handful of customers in the spacious resturant which has booth seating as well as table seating, we were greeted by a friendly staff which seated us and brought us tea and ice water and menu's and informed us of the lunch special , the place is clean and smells delicious, I ordered the mongolian beef with pork fried rice and bbq pork strips , my wife ordered the green bean chicken with pork fried rice the wait time was minimal and the food arrived steaming hot. The ingredients the veggies were soft yet crispy and definitly fresh, the beef strips were plentiful and melted in the mouth the rice fully cooked with the right mix of veggies and pork bits was flavorfull and fresh and not lumpy. My wife also loved her food and we both agreed that we had found a great resturant that we will difinitly be visiting again in the future. The cost was around 30 dollars for both meal and we took home about half of our plates. The restrooms were clean and theres also a room with slots availible for entertainment. Overall I would recommend Chen Family Dish...
