I went in before work to get a chai latte and a fruit toast. As soon as I walked in I greeted the staff and wished them a good morning. I've been to many La la land cafes and it's always been a positive experience so you must imagine my shock when I was greeted with ugly looks and ignored. I tried to look at the menu while I waited to order, and when someone finally bothered to assist me they said "what do you need" in a very rude tone. I dismissed it as some people are not morning people so I was still trying to disregard the hostile environment i walked into. There was no line or many people in the cafe so my Chai latte took no time however almost 15 minutes passed by and I never got my toast or any updates on it. While I was waiting on it I overheard one of the baristas ask "what is she still doing here" and someone else ask me if the nutella toast was mine. I honestly felt scared to ask due to my anxiety at that moment. I finally worked up the courage to ask if they happen to know how much longer my toast would take as I had work to get to. I was then informed it was about an extra 5 minutes, I asked for my order the toast on my order to be cancelled because I had a meeting to get to and was starting to run on my time. A barista started making comments about people being passive aggressive and acting entitled which I'm not sure if it was directed at me but either way that is not topics of proper conversation in front of your costumers. I apologized to the staff assisting me about cancelling the rest of my order and was informed I was okay to go. Never have I ever gone to a café and experienced this kind of hostile behavior, I don't even write reviews but that entire situation was very mind boggling to me, because it felt xenophobic as I was the only non American costumer in there at that time and other costumers where treated kindly and in a timely manner. safe to say I will never return to that...
Read moreI applaud and adore La La Land's mission. However, after many visits and attempts to try it, I have yet to have any of my orders made correctly. Today, I ordered an extra hot almond milk cappuccino. After making it, I could see the barista staring into the cup, looking lost and confused, until her supervisor came over. They exchanged a few words, continuing to stare at the beverage. It was then brought over to me. I asked if something was wrong and they both respond, "oh no, there is just not enough foam in it." I responded with an "oh, um ok." The barista responded if she would like me to make another with a bit more foam. I responded yes and told her that I appreciated it. She mentioned she was in training and I told her how wonderful it was and I was glad she was learning. Rather than allowing the barista-in-training to remake the capuccino and build her skills, the supervisor grabbed the ingredients and materials from her and then angrily remade the beverage. When it was brought to me there was no espresso nor liquid inside, but only foam. I tried to take a sip but there was nothing but foam. The supervisor then irritatingly asked me what was wrong. I just shook my head, nothing, and left. I am really disappointed as I wanted the opportunity to enjoy this place but after multiple visits have never had a good experience. This was the final straw, particularly witnessing the supervisor not allow the trainee the opportunity to learn and re-do. I will...
Read moreLet me start by saying that I’m a black coffee, the more bitter the better kind of guy, and if I were a crafty coffee drinker, I might would given a better rating especially if they had my favorite craft coffee drink. Also, I really like the taste of their coffee without all the added flavors, etc. It’s been several years now since I walked into the first La La Land Kind Cafe, and I was blown away with kindness, from being greeted at the door to eye contact to being asked how I was doing today. Back then, I kind of loved it!! It was unlike any other store. Today, they had the same good coffee without any of the other perks. I knew something was different, but it took me a minute to realize that the “kindness” had died. I actually watched as each cup of coffee was being handed out without even a “thank you.” Then, I went to find a table to eat a bite of my cinnamon cruffin which was delicious, but I couldn’t find a table that had been wiped down. Not a single table had been cleaned at a time that google showed as one of their slowest. Had I seen some disinfectant, I would have done it myself I suppose; however, a kind cafe should have a clean environment and a clean table. Basically, if I were to make my review a one-liner I could have said: La La Land isn’t kind any more but it’s still good. I probably got spoiled from when they first got started and what they...
