Breakfast at Snooze: A White-People’s Meal

We were in the mood for breakfast and in an unfamiliar part of Dallas... And we are glad we found Snooze! This is one of the best places I've ever had brunch. There's an app to get on the wait-list early. They texted us when our table was ready and we had the option of indoor or outdoor - outdoor is dog friendly!! The staff were all wearing masks, and there was a staff member dedicated to cleaning. Inside seating areas were divided by clean, neat looking plexiglass barriers. I paid by card, and was given a small electronic paybook and handled the entire payment myself with a simple automated system so my card never left me. I felt safe eating there. I had the vanilla almond matcha latte, the benny duo (ham benedict iii and habanero pork belly benedict). My spouse had the sweet potato bacon smashup and cranberry juice. We split the limited offering of the Waffles n Berries. The vanilla almond matcha latte tasted like real matcha - rich and earthy. Vanilla and almond didn't really shine through, but matcha was what I wanted and it was good matcha. It seemed like a small cup, but lasted me the whole meal. The cranberry juice tasted like it was from concentrate, but was cold and refreshing. The benedicts and smashup had perfectly poached eggs. The meals were warm and beautifully presented. Portions were a good size, and the composition left us feeling satisfied and energized rather than bloated and sleepy. The ham benedict iii hollandaise almost had a sour cream flavor, which was unique, while the ham was tender and the bread absorbed the yolk and hollandaise goodness. The habanero pork belly benedict wasn't really spicy at all - I didn't taste the cream cheese in this hollandaise, but I really tasted that cider and maple notes in the pork belly and the hint of the bacon-espresso jam on the bread. The hashbrowns were a good, neutral flavor, wonderfully flaky once cut into, and absorbed all the left over flavors on the plate. The smashup was without avocado (and they were GREAT about our allergies!). The smashup had many good flavors - the sweet potato was tender and the bacon was cooked to complement the plate. These meals left us feeling satisfied! We got the Waffles n Berries as a dessert to split, and I think it's best as a dessert split between two people. You just get the waffles, berries, cream, and syrup so it isn't a full meal, especially compared to the other offerings. The waffle was dense rather than fluffy, and had some nice caramelization that gave some almost funnel-cake afternotes but was not overly sweet. The berries were fresh and in a good quantity to satisfy without being overwhelming. The mascarpone tasted fluffier than it was, and added a richness to the dish. The syrup wasn't remarkable, but was decent. Joe and Sarah gave us warm, friendly, professional service. They were so great we couldn't help but complement them to the manager. They were informative, polite, good about our allergies, and gave amazing service. Definitely worth coming back to!

Restaurant just opened and there was a healthy onslaught of customers waiting to try it out. When we arrived we were told it would take about 20 minutes to get seated, usually that means 30 or 40 at most restaurants but in this case they actually were true to their word. We were seated in under 20 minutes. Everyone was extremely friendly and there was an air of excitement as this was, I believe, the first weekend open for breakfast at this location. Customer service was A+++, and although our server was new to the job, he was extremely well-coached and very attentive during our entire visit. I ordered the traditional eggs benedict. It was exceptional. It came with hash browns that were in a circular thick patty type presentation, it had a mild spice about it and it was delicious. The other person at my table ordered what I believe was blueberry pancakes, devoured them. Usually a finicky eater, this was nonstop consumption. Along with a generous topping, the pancake also had a cream filling of some sort, not overpowering, I was told it was perfect. Given the ambiance and level of service and quality of food I believe the pricing was reasonable for the product, service and experience. There's complimentary coffee for people waiting to be seated. This place certainly lives up to, if not goes beyond the reputation of Snooze. The only downside to this visit was an altercation that took place with one of the guys running the valet parking. To the credit of Snooze, they quickly intervened as soon as they were made aware. the valet people actually work for the Green Papaya which is the restaurant next door, which is a bit surprising to me, because the Green Papaya is also an exceptional restaurant with a good reputation in the area. I think it was just an unusual circumstance. I highly recommend you try out Snooze for a great breakfast in the Oak Lawn area. Don't come alone, because you and your friends/family will have a good experience it deserves to be shared.

Feeling a little antisocial but really wanting to splurge on breakfast, I ordered DoorDash from here. I chose the pick two Benny meal and was very impressed at the way it was packaged for transport. The eggs and hollandaise sauce was separated from the rest of the meal. The bottom portions of the benedicts were able to retain their crispness.

Habanero Pork Belly Benny: There was a barely detectable layer of bacon-espresso jam. The benny was supposed to be dressed with cranberry relish - I received one half of a cranberry. However, the English muffin was perfectly toasted and they didn't skimp on the Pork belly.

Pork Chile Verde Benny: Green chili sauced tortillas were an amazing twist instead of the usually English muffin. There was a good portion of well seasoned pulled pork. Unfortunately, the accompanying pico de gallo and cotija cheese was not included on mine.

Overall, I appreciated the concept and overall flavors, I just wish the execution was equally distributed. The flat Hash browns were actually crispy, and I really enjoyed them.

I also ordered the Strawberry Shortcake Pancakes for something sweet to finish off the savory. Unfortunately, the ingenuity of the benny packaging was not there with this dish. The strawberry mascarpone and vanilla crème were plopped on top of the hot pancakes like that was going to travel well. By the time I received it, they had become runny and slid off to a mass of hot mess. I was also not impressed by the five slivers of strawberries or small tablespoon of almond streusel for two pancakes. While the dish had good flavor, it fell flat in presentation and portioning. Again, some of these factors are in regards to being transported, so I might have had better luck if I had dined in. Considering the potential to do better, I'd certainly try it that...
