I'm from California, I'm a contractor and I had to visit Texas for 2 months I had promised my sister to take her to my favorite restaurant which is Nobu in Malibu unfortunately my work took me out to Texas and instead I had to take her to Nobu Dallas and I regret it greatly. In my years of visiting Nobu Malibu I have never been disappointed but this last visit to Nobu Dallas was not one I'd like to remember. I made reservations by phone a week before for a party of 2 on arrival we had to wait for a table to be cleaned off first negative. When we finally sat down and recieved menus it took 15 minutes for our waitress to ask what we wanted to drink. I advised that we were also ready to order and she stated that she would take the order after she brought the drinks so we could look over the menu even though I already knew what I wanted. The tables were so close together; its very uncomfortable. After 25 minutes of being there we were finally allowed to begin ordering food: I say begin to order because I planned to order a lot more food than what we were able to order. We put in an order for spicy tuna rice cakes, yellow tail sashimi with jalapenos, 2 orders of lobster tacos, and a few random rolls, and rice. Our reservations were at 9 and it is now 10:15 and we finally got our food. Not soon after we got out food we were told that the kitchen would close soon and it's the last call for food I told the waitress we just reserved our food we haven't finished is there anyway I could speak up someone so that we could have a little more time she said no it's the last call, so I said okay that is fine will we still be able to order dessert once we finish our food she said yes that'll stay open.
I don't like conflicts and I don't like to complain but if I'm going to spend $400 on my dinner I want to at least have good service. And I did not have good service which is strange because the loud people next to us were getting checked on every 2 minutes and my sister and I had to literally raise our hands to get any service. I felt very offended because I am young but I do work very hard to be able to do certain things and I feel like there was some sort of profiling or poor judgment because we were not getting any service and the people who were 2 inches away from us were getting service every 2 minutes. This is why I'm giving 1 star, the taste of the food was also not spectacular I actually enjoy when my food comes out ready to eat usually away Nobu Malibu I don't have to make my own spicy tuna rice cakes it comes ready to eat and decorated with sauce and flowers I never had it served like a dip that goes for the lobster tacos as well.
I do not recommend Nobu Dallas, horrible service, okay food, go to another Nobu so you can hopefully get the experience...
Read moreThe food was fine. The sushi chefs are a great bunch to learn from and to be with for a better-paced experience. From a hygiene perspective, there were crumbs scattered across my seat that I had to brush off. There were also food remnants on my share plate. At the time of my arrival, there were over six sushi bar seats available, but I was seated at the regular bar. A couple that was seated after me also felt frustrated that we weren't offered a chance to sit at the sushi bar in return for a quick exit. This may have just been due to pending reservations which is okay. But the circumstances weren't handled well by the hostesses.
My order was taken incorrectly four times. After I realized the bartender wasn't aware of what I had ordered again, I reiterated what I wanted from the sushi station. There was no attempt to initiate closed-loop communication or to seek clarification early on. It's okay to make mistakes. We're all human. It's not okay to shift blame onto me for her own incompetency simply because her superior came behind the bar within earshot to serve other guests. Cutting me off mid-sentence to claim, "It doesn't matter," while I'm correcting her account of events is also not okay, especially when there are witnesses of her behavior seated by my side. I wasn't even asked if I wanted a drink. I was too frustrated to ask for anything more at that point. My food was brought out to me incorrectly, and I was left speechless by how this bartender handled herself. I walked over to the sushi bar myself to reiterate my order. Thankfully, the chef remembered how he'd offered that item the night before, so things were clarified appropriately. I had my order remade, and the food turned out okay.
I shared that I wanted to close my tab. After all of the mishaps during service, I expected to receive a check for review before payment. She just took my card and was about to swipe my card on her own. I had to ask her to slow down and offer me a chance to review the check first. The check was offered in a sticky pamphlet that left food residue on my hand. Was pretty unpleasant.
Overall, service from waitstaff has been beyond subpar at this location. I've regretted the last three times I've been here. Even after a pleasant time with the sushi chefs, with no waitstaff in sight to address any mid-course concerns, someone suddenly clearing my spot with bothered haste leaves a rancid note on the...
Read moreI've been to several Nobu locations and the food quality is consistent. Fish is fresh and looks beautiful when presented. We do expect to pay higher prices when we go to upscale restaurants but we also expect to enjoy the experience and to at least leave full. When we eat sushi, we usually eat at the sushi bar and order Omakase but they told us that we had to order from the server and the chefs were not engaging. Which was a disappointment. When I was seated, the chair was pushed in quickly behind me and the wood of the chair cut the back of my foot. I didn't say anything about that but then a little later, the server brought our drinks and he knocked the beer over and poured it all over me. I laughed because I think things like that are pretty funny but I thought it was handled poorly. He did tell us that we wouldn't have to pay for the spilled drink (duh) and sent over a manager who then gave me a business card to get my washable sweater dry cleaned in the same building. We drove 50 minutes, we are not driving downtown to dry clean a washable sweater. I wasn't looking for free stuff but I think the card was a weird choice for making things right. I will add here that it's been a while since our visit so management may have changed but it was my experience there. After proceeding with our dinner, the service was slow and the chefs were not allowed to take our orders so we would wait a long time before our next tiny portion came through. Our bill, about twice our normal sushi bill and about 5 times a normal person's sushi bill, yet my boyfriend was still hungry when we left because of portion size. We went through a whataburger drive thru when we left, to fill him up. We have not been back. I have had better experiences at other nobu locations and I'm sure it was an off night. I will also say that we did order good saki so that was part of the expense but we get good saki at our other place too. It was too much $$ to leave hungry. My boyfriend was trying to treat me and spent the rest of the night apologizing to me. I personally had a great time with him and we have something to laugh about. I will say that it's worth trying if you want to say you've been to nobu and you want fresh good tasting sushi. It has a great atmosphere, we just didn't enjoy the...
