I’m not sure what’s been happening to Ascension in Dallas but the quality of service seems to have gone down hill. This is especially true of White Rock Lake but even Crescent Court, the location I’m currently sitting in seems to have lost its quality service. After entering just around 10:10 on a Wednesday morning, I chose a seat according to the instructions. A young lady server brought me a water and said someone would be with me shortly. Unfortunately it wasn’t until 10:30 that, while sitting around wondering if I should leave, another server came to wipe down the chairs. I went ahead and asked if someone would be around to take my order and she promptly took my order and helped me understand the current flights available. I don’t understand why I was ignored by four servers wandering around taking care of some customers and cleaning up tables around me but I’ll say especially for the price of the coffee and food and clientele in Crescent Court, I shouldn’t have had to say a word. I expect more from an establishment like Ascension Coffee. Whenever my friends come to Dallas I have recommended Ascension as the spot for the best coffee and great breakfast in Dallas time and again but I really can’t do that right now because of the poor service.
The atmosphere was noisy as well. The food and coffee was fine but the experience over all was not great.
Original Review posted in 2022: An incredible craft coffee shop and restaurant. Parking was a bit tricky but there’s a garage for self parking. You can come in and grab a cup just like you would any other coffee shop or grab a table and “dine in.” I tried their cup of excellence pour over, a Guatemalan, and a lavender latte for my drinks.
The pour over was one if not the best I have had from a speciality shop. The cup was balanced and really hit the notes of apricot, lemoncello, and sugarcane. Absolutely delicious.
The lavender latte was excellent as well and one of the best I have had. Presentation was excellent as was the service.
I tried the chocolate croissant which was very good and the croque madame open face egg brunch item. It was very good as well. For the coffee alone I’ll be back and probably end up getting a bag or two of beans as well as a mug at some point. Support your local...
Read moreI am a regular here at Ascension. Normally when I come in I have good service. sometimes its not necessarily timely because they are busy and short staffed but I could always depend on the food to be absolutely delicious. Today I had a different experience. This was the second time that I have come in and I had a server by the name of Nancy be rude to me. Today I brought someone new to the restaurant that has never been here before and I proceeded to get us a menu because we were waiting for our server. Nancy stopped Me and told me to go have a seat and proceeded to snatch the menu out of my hand. She repeated this twice before I went to the table and complain to my waitress. I spoke with the manager who says that he dealt with the issue and offered us a free drink but I told him that the complaint isn’t coming from a place of wanting some thing for free, I simply just don’t like being treated the way that I was. Every time I’ve come in and Nancy has worked it has been a negative experience she is very rude and short and I have seen her do the same with other associates that she works with. Our glassware was dirty on multiple occasions but our service improved after the initial a complaint to the manager. I would definitely recommend coming to Ascension especially to get their $14 Mamosa carafe and to try out their specialty cocktails and coffee. I would however never come back to be served by Nancy because she is very rude and not attentive when she is your actual server. Drew was absolutely amazing even though he wasn't my server he made my time great! My server Dana was a little bit quiet but polite and attentive. I do wish that she would’ve paid more attention to detail as far as the consistently dirty glass is in carafe containers that she could’ve polished before bringing...
Read moreI've been a frequent customer of Ascension since Fall 2018. Generally, the coffee here is pretty awesome, as is the food. However, the service could be greatly improved. The staff seem apathetic, overall, and lack energy. Usually, I'm willing to look past this; however, today was a shockingly bad experience, with the discovery of rocks in coffee and cold, stale "toast."
Today, whilst having coffee with my mother, she discovered two small rocks (see attached photo) in her Turmeric Chai Tea Latte. She felt it in her mouth, thinking it was a seasoning, bit down and felt the pressure on her tooth. She initially thought her tooth had broken, however, thankfully it had not.
We quickly made the discovery known to our server, who acknowledged it (and that it wasn't a spice), and then promptly walked off. She didn't offer to take the coffee away or get a fresh one. Instead, after 5-10 minutes, she returned saying that they were going to re-filter something--what, precisely, we aren't sure because we weren't told--and that they appreciated being told. Finally, after another long wait, they offered to get mum a new coffee.
The rocks in the coffee was not the only issue. When my food arrived--the Eggs Benedict with a side of Vegemite Toast--the toast was cold and very stale. It almost seems like they just slapped the stale bread on the plate, then put it under a heat lamp. Moreover, the Eggs Benedict were equally awful. The tomatoes weren’t cooked properly, the ham was incredibly chewy, and the toast also tasted stale. The only good thing were the poached eggs which, mercifully, were perfectly good.
While the coffee may be excellent here, the service is not; this, after today's additional issues, I won't be returning. If you want rock-free coffee, try LDU...
