I expected a night of elegance and art. What I got instead was a lesson in frustration and poor customer service.
First off, we arrived only to be made to stand outside just to talk to someone. No signage, no direction, just a crowd left in limbo. Tried calling their box office? Good luck—phone rings endlessly during business hours, but after 5 PM? Total radio silence. That’s some real amateur-hour nonsense for a venue of this caliber.
We also tried—keyword tried—to book meal tickets for the Skyline Terrace online. Their website is buggy and borderline unusable. We attempted to pay with two separate credit cards (Visa and MasterCard), both with several thousand dollars available, and both were inexplicably declined. No error, no help. Just an endless loop of failed transactions.
So we figured we’d show up early and try to eat there without a reservation. Big mistake. The staff treated us like we were a nuisance—second-class, maybe even third-class citizens. They literally told us to “stand aside” while they seated people with reservations. Well, guess what, Winspear—if your website had worked, we would’ve had a reservation.
It’s a gorgeous theater, no doubt. But the experience? Completely soured. A night that should’ve been memorable for the performance ended up being memorable for all the...
Read moreI drove 5 hours to take my son to a concert here. I did not attend the concert so I can't comment on the inside of the venue, but I have a lot to say about the area around it. I was concerned about what I was going to do for the 3+ hours he was there and I was alone. At the recommendation of Allen at the box office who I called that morning, I pre-bought a Lexus Red parking pass fir $19 which allowed us to park directly under the opera house, so no walking on the street for either of us. We took the convenient escalators up where there was an abundance of helpful and friendly venue staff directing the concert-goers. There were craft vendors and live music going on outside. Lots of seating available to just hang out and some folks had blankets out on the grass area. The Flora Cantina is so nice - inexpensive food and drinks and they allowed a few of us to hang out inside and at their outdoor seating area as well as use their bathroom. The area feels very safe and that was a concern for me since I was alone for several hours on this big, unfamiliar city. The Winspear and the campus around it is all top-notch and I would love to go back and actually go to an event...
