As a first time customer at Dear Clark, I called and booked my appointment earlier in the week with a receptionist. I told her what I wanted (full balayage, root coverage plus hair cut) and she scheduled me. I received a text from the stylist later saying the appointment was booked wrong and not enough time was provided but she could do my hair if it was okay for someone else to blow dry. I told her I was okay with that as long as she did all the coloring. She assured me she would. I specifically chose her due to the great reviews on the color she does. When I arrived today, first she chopped all my hair off in 1 cut as I requested (she said sheād go back later to touch it up after I was done with everything) and then she did the highlight for the balayage. She then got the other guy to blow dry my roots for the root coverage. When it was time for the root color coverage, they moved me to another station and she had the guy who blow dried (was originally working at the receptionist desk) to put the root color on. She was telling him what to do and where to color as she started on her next client. When it was time to wash, he then washed my hair, put the toner on, then had to take me to another station (because that stylist needed her spot) to blow dry my hair again and then he took the cape off. I told him I still needed my hair cut and he said yes, the stylist would finish it up. I walked back to the original station where the stylist was that I originally made the appointment with and she was still working on another client. She starts trimming my hair while Iām standing up with my purse in my hand. No cape. Hair falling all over me. The whole experience was just very unprofessional. I am very laid back and I understand that the receptionist made a mistake with scheduling but the client shouldnāt have to deal with the repercussions for it. If you couldnāt do my hair properly and in a professional manner, you should of cancelled or rescheduled. I was moved around between 4 different stations while I was there. The stylist who told me she would be the one who would color my hair, didnāt color all of my hair. I felt like a burden. To top the whole thing off, it cost me $310 for this horrible experience. I am pretty certain I paid the price for a beginner blow dryer assistant to color my hair at the price of a master colorist fee. The only great thing is, the people are really cool and nice if that accounts for anything. Thomas did a great job taking over for Erica and finishing the job that she should of done. Needless to say, I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's been three weeks since I got my haircut here. I waited--on purpose--before writing this review. Haircuts are hard to judge straight from the chair. What good is a fabulous new 'do if you cannot replicate the style once you leave the salon? In other words, it can take some time to make your new style work for you.
Kaycee Clark, one of the owners and founders of this incredible salon, was appointed as my stylist. And, let me tell you, I called with a crisis. I went to my hairdresser of 14 years and asked for one of the nouveau perms that is supposed to give you beachy waves rather than coils circa 1980. The result was worse than a throwback poodle perm--my color was stripped and every inch of my hair was frizzy and fried. There were no curls and no waves. Just fried frizz. I was devastated. Kaycee and her team assured me they could help.
When I walked into the salon, I was greeted by a friendly staffer and given a nice, robe-style smock to wear. I was offered a drink too, which was a delightful touch!
My goal when I saw Kaycee was to try and salvage some wave (if that was even possible) and get a new, shorter 'do. I'd been carrying around a pic from a Cosmo cover for about a year now. No time like the present since the only thing that would heal my hair now would be a buzz cut.
Kaycee talked me through the possible scenarios. Though the girl in my photo had lots of layers, Kaycee insisted that my face shape would not look good with that exact cut. She suggested something a bit more blunt. I was hesitant to agree, but then again, she is the expert.
Kaycee and her apprentice did their best to salvage my curl. I'll admit, I did not like my hair. People who saw me in the moments and days following my cut were like, "you got your haircut....." and then nothing. Or, despite the drastic change, they said nothing at all (then you know it's bad).
However, as the "curls" I was so desperately clinging to unfurled into a frizzier mess, I decided to straighten my hair and return it to its natural state. The damage is still evident in some areas, but the cut is well, just right. It's in style, it goes well with my face shape and it's not too difficult to style--just like Kaycee said it would be.
The experience at Dear Clark was pretty darn good. They have valet parking, they offer a variety of beverages to enjoy during your service, the salon is hip, the people are friendly. And, most importantly, the stylists know what...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve had mixed experiences at House of Dear. In the past, Iāve had highlights with Ashley and a cut by Teddy - both were great.
However, during a recent color consult with another stylist, the owner, Holly, offered to do a cut and style. She noticed a slight wave in my predominantly straight, fine hair and suggested a curly cut and style to enhance it. I agreed, trusting her expertise and curious to see if it would bring out more texture. While the haircut was fine, the styling was not suited to my hair type at all. My hair was heavily saturated with curl products, then scrunched and diffused, leaving it limp, wet-looking, and greasy. Almost no curl or wave developed, and the result was a style I would never feel comfortable leaving the house in - let alone paying over $200 for. I wasnāt upset about the style not working out because I did agree to try it. But, I was deeply uncomfortable with how I was treated after. I told Holly the style didnāt work for my hair and that Iād prefer to blow dry in the future. Another stylist even agreed. Holly dismissed my concerns, claiming my hair was damaged from straightening and thatās why the texture didnāt form. This just isnāt true - I never straighten my hair and rarely even blow dry it. It just dries very straight. I feel like the natural texture of my hair was made clear, as I had came in with it air dried. I explained this, and still I felt ignored and invalidated. I honestly felt like I was being gaslit rather than just admitting to making a mistake with the styling reccomendation for my hair. Holly later went on to say not to ābullshit herā which was extremely unprofessional, uncomfortable and again just made me feel like I was not being heard at all. I left the salon with hair that looked greasy and wet - nothing like what I expected - and felt humiliated, frustrated and on the verge of tears. I also went home to find out the cut was uneven and choppy with different lengths on each side.
Based on this experience, I would strongly caution anyone considering booking at this salon. I have never written a negative review in my life but I truly had such an upsetting, frustrating experience and I wouldnāt want anyone else to pay the amount of money I did to then feel as horrible as I felt.
EDIT* As mentioned above, I almost never blow dry and never straighten or use heat on my hairā¦.. It is air dried in its natural...
