My husband is from Portland and has spent a great deal of time in Maui the last 10 years. We've been looking for a poke place that can compare to Maui or the fresh fish from the Pacific North West - and we've found it here at Poke Bop! The combinations of the food are not traditional Hawaiian but they don't claim to be, which we both ended loving that about this place. They have taken Poke and elevated it! The fish is FRESH, the cuts of fish are perfectly sized and portioned. The flavors of the sauces are loud enough to notice but don't overpower the fish. Every element of the bowls we got did not disappoint. The green tea rice is something I've never experienced before and it was heaven. Perfectly sticky and flavored.
We got The Hawaiian bowl and the Spicy Tuna Bowl. I highly recommend either for your first try here. We can't wait to go back.
The staff here is very welcoming and cheery. Krystal gave me her honest about the menu and recommendations. She also recommended I add the tempura crunch bits and fried garlic. It completed my bowl perfectly. Well...
Read moreGPS accidentally took me to this Poke place rather than another one I usually go to and I am so glad I decided to try this one. I'm used to filling out the paper menu like my usual place so I was a bit intimidated with all the unfamiliar options I was used to. I was going to cheat and just order one off the house menu but since it wasn't busy I thought I'd experiment with build your bowl. The large 3 protein bowl for $12.95 seemed reasonable and loaded it up with extras like avocado and my favorite octopus salad that my usual spot doesn't offer. I also liked having the seaweed salad option as a veg filler. The portions were pretty generous and ingredients super fresh. There were lots of sauces and went for the creamy wasabi and toppings like rice puff balls and garlic chips that I've never tried. Let's say that every bite burst with flavor and ate it down to the last puff ball. I will definitely be back and I have a feeling this will be...
Read moreWhen we saw the sign we immediately recognized the Korean word Bop which means rice. We lived in South Korea and traveled in Hawaii so we're familiar with the food on these places. This place is basically a Poke place with a Korean twist on it. It reminded me of 덥밥 (deupbap) rice bowl topped with something in South Korea and they used fresh fish, veggies and fruits with aioli which is used in poke. They also used Gochujang which is a Korean sauce. We tried three of their meal menu: Hawaiian bowl, Salmon Crunch and Tommy's Special. I can taste the gochujang on Tommy's special so it is like eating 회덮밥 or raw fish bibimbap. The Salmon crunch needed a little bit more of aioli sauce on it. And the Hawaiin bowl is so far my favorite, the Ahi tuna and pineapple. We chose green tea rice and it was delish.
The owner is very friendly, service is very good, the place is clean and the food is very unique...
