Roman Cucina is a local privately owned Italian restaurant. We heard about the place via a random, unasked for comment, by a total stranger who overheard us talking about places we might want to consider for dinner. Am I ever grateful that this person took the time to interrupt the private conversation and suggest we try Roman Cucina.
This was some of the best Italian food that I've had the opportunity to experience in a very long time. The shrimp scampi was a very generous portion loaded with flavorful lemon butter garlic sauce. The penne pasta was perfectly prepared, and the shrimp were fresh and tender. As an appetizer we tried the bruschetta bread and everyone in our party thought it was the best they'd ever had. It was made with inch and a half thick slices of freshly baked, crispy crust Italian bread and was full of flavors that just filled your mouth with a taste sensation. Yes, we thought it was that good.
It is not a fancy place. The atmosphere is modest, most of the seats are old style bench restaurant seats that look well worn, but reasonably cared for. There is a small bar area and some traditional table and chair seating as well. The wall is filled with years worth of different pictures all themed around family. It makes for an interesting setting. It is not a place that screams elegance or a quiet romantic dinner, neither does it have the common institutional, artificially generated atmosphere so prevalent in chain restaurants.
It's not that larger place, and it does appear to be quite popular on a weeknight we had to wait about 15 minutes to get in but it was well worth the wait. There is immediate on-site parking. I do not live in this area but to visit from time to time and this will be on my regular stop back...
Read moreDo you like vegetables? You NEED to try the pasta primavera!! I am TELLING YOU. (okay I will stop with the caps now :P ) okay, this restaurant is beyond delicious. The Pasta primavera has noodle of your choice (penne, fettucini, or spaghetti) with Roma tomatoes, red and yellow peppers, onions, broccoli, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. The sauce can be whatever you want. It comes with a sauteed in olive oil and garlic sauce, but I haven't ever tried it that way. They have other sauces; the classic red sauce (don't know the name), and a Rosa sauce. I love the Rosa sauce. The closest thing I can compare it to, would be the sweet tomato basil soup from La Madeleine. My friend has also tried it with the alfredo sauce, and loved it. If you aren't sure what sauce you want, you can ask to try it. They will happily bring you a sample of the sauce. I also ask for no sun dried tomatoes, because I think they're too sweet. The atmosphere is beautiful. It has romantic lighting, with nice candles on the tables. Although it is decorated really nice, it also has a comfortable feeling. The staff is really great, and the manager always greets us at the end of the meal to make sure everything was great.
I highly highly highly recommend this restaurant. I typically don't eat out for Italian food, because I can cook it well at home. If you come on Tuesday's, they have buy 1 entree, get one half off! This is a great deal. I go with my friend a lot, we each get a meal that costs 12.95, and then we each pitch in half of the total. This way, we get a fantastic meal, and each only pay about 10 + tip!!
Really, stop thinking about it - just go.
Remember they have different hours than most places! This is a dinner restaurant, so check the hours. I believe they...
Read moreMy partner and I have come to this place of business 24 times and spent hundreds of dollars just since last November 2021 when we first found the place. Out of all the times that we've come, we had ONE dish that we sent back because it didn't taste good. We also sent back ONE martini because the flavor was off. Every time we come we probably spend over $50 total. So, you do the math. That's over $1200 on food orders.
Yesterday, while my partner and I were having a good time and enjoying martinis at the bar. The owner walked up to us out of nowhere, ambushed us and basically said that if we sent back any other meals that we would be asked not to come back to his restaurant. We both found that behavior to be very rude, very unprofessional, and very unnecessary. We were both so shocked and stunned that we thought he had to have had us confused with another customer. We've always been polite customers and almost never have any issues.
He claims we always have problems and always are sending back food. That is simply a lie. If you look at the numbers, one time out of 24 meals is not all the time.
We've noticed a decline in the level of service at the restaurant in any account. Our favorite waiters and waitresses are rapidly quitting, which we believe to be due to the owner.
I believe that there has to have been a racial and homophobic angle to this situation. We have NEVER seen him treat his non-minority straight customers in an ABUSIVE way as he treated us. We will never be back to this discriminatory restaurant.
We just left and went to Kenny's Italian. The food and service were both excellent, better than that of Roman Cucina, and we'll be going there on a weekly...
