Let me start off by saying, my wife and I had driven by this restaurant many times over the last year and never stopped in. I think it's because I saw "Seafood" on the sign and that's what I focused on.
For some reason, I was doing a search for restaurants in the area and Mama's Kitchen came up. I went to their website and saw that they were a Vietnamese restaurant. My wife and I like Vietnamese food and I saw my favorite dish on the menu so we decided to give it a try.
We went in for lunch and we both ordered the Bun Thit Nuong. It's a popular Vietnamese dish of rice noodles topped with grilled pork, fresh herbs, fresh salad and spring rolls. You get fish sauce to spread over the dish. I have to say it was the freshest and tastiest version of this dish I've ever had! And the portion size was awesome!
If you haven't had Vietnamese food your missing the boat... It's delicious!
We finished our meal with a Vietnamese desert that was out of this world. It's called Kem Trai Dua. It's a hollowed out coconut filled with coconut ice cream, logan berry, cherry, and topped with peanut, dried coconut and a mini macaroon.
The menu is filled with authentic Vietnamese cuisine including a very good selection of Pho.
We had a very nice waitress. The Chef and then the owner (Katie) even came out front to ask how our meal was. Both were very friendly and kind!
Mama's Kitchen has been here in Daytona for just about a year now and I do hope the word gets out quickly about this place. They deserve a try, because if you try it once, you'll be back like my wife and I did today. We both tried something else on the menu and those meals were...
Read moreMama's Kitchen actually reminds me of my momma's kitchen! My initial impression looking at the menu was that prices are a little elevated, but when it was all said and eaten, we were very happy.
You can tell the spring rolls are put together when you order them. Herbs and veggies were fresh and crunchy, which is a huge part of Vietnamese cuisines. Other places pre-make their spring rolls throughout the day and wrap them with cling, waiting to be ordered. You'll be able to tell the difference when you try Mama's.
We also had the Bún Thịt Nướng (vermicelli with pork) and Phở Mama. The pork was very tender and flavorful and the herbs and veggies were on point again. Phở broth was really comforting and satisfying. Hopefully I wasn't too loud slurping what was left of the broth directly from the bowl :)
This is probably the freshest and most authentic Vietnamese kitchen in Daytona Beach ( besides my momma's kitchen of course) - ABOUT TIME! For reference, I also like Rice Bistro and some some of the Vietnamese dishes at Leanh's, but I like this place better.
Hopefully Mama's Kitchen can maintain the quality and freshness we experienced this time. Also maybe introduce a few more authentic Vietnamese dishes to the menu...
Read moreAs a certified SE Asian, who's grown up eating pho his entire life and my people also hail from Vietnam, albeit not Vietnamese but an ethnic minority from NW Vietnam, this place is phosure legit. Everything was made with quality, and most importantly, LOVE. Only giving 4 stars because the pho broth was lacking (A little watered down), but the rice NOODS were themselves were 🔥 🔥 🔥! I think they might make the rice noodles fresh. Texture on those noodles were amazing. I also think they use a meat slicer to cut their meat. The fried chicken wings were slightly over (not a big deal). The spring rolls were some of the best I've had in a very long time. The Bahn Mi was pretty good as well, but not mind blowing from my personal experience. Might have just been an off day. But hopefully when I go back the next time, I will have a different experience with the pho broth. I definitely have higher standards as someone who's grown up eating this food, and they definitely meet the standard of food made with...
