My suggestion, don't come here on Saturday mornings, the food is okay but not worth the hassle. I was so disappointed with the service at this restaurant. I don't usually leave bad reviews, I just kind of get on with my day but I've honestly never been treated so poorly at a restaurant in my life. I arrived and asked for a table for two, I was asked if I wanted to sit at the bar and I said I'd prefer to sit at a table (it was a friend's birthday weekend so I preferred for us to sit at a table; (tip: ask if it's a special occasion before you point people to your bar seating). They told me it would be a 10 - 15 minute wait which I was fine with, I wasn't given any insight about where I could wait, because I didn't sea a waiting area I asked if I could wait at the bar (I'm pregnant, not showing yet, but being on my feet is still exhausting), it's only after our meal when I left the restaurant did I notice that there was outside seating but the service of the host was so unfriendly, nobody told me that. Anyway, I waited at the bar and ordered a drink while waiting for my table so that I wasn't just taking up space. When I was at the bar I noticed that a woman, who I'm guessing was the manager was just staring at me, I honestly felt so uncomfortable, the whole feeling was as if I wasn't wanted there or something, it was just really weird. I even asked the bar lady if it was okay if I ordered a drink (juice) while waiting for my table or if it was better for me to just wait for my table, she said ordering was fine. My friend arrives and at this point I've been waiting 15 minutes, we hang out for a bit and then at 20 minutes I go to the host and ask him how long he thinks it will be until our table is ready (I'm seeing at least 2 or 3 empty tables at this point), and again just a really weird vibe, like they don't want to seat me or something. He goes to who I'm guessing is the manager and she points him to a table. Everything just felt so unfriendly and reluctant. Anyway the lady who served us was great, super friendly and I left a generous tip, nothing crazy but respectable. The food was okay, not the best in ATL for breakfast/brunch but prices are good. Again, I'm pregnant so eating takes a little longer for me nowadays, as soon as I was done eating I paid for our meal and hung out for maybe 15-20 more minutes because my friend had extra time on her parking meter. The woman who I'm guessing is the manager literally came up to us and told us to leave because they had other people waiting. So after all of that they basically kick us out it felt like. I'm never coming back to this place again, not with my husband, family or friends. I know a group that does Monday breakfast meet ups with a large group of people and sometimes they stay so long that they end up ordering lunch at the same restaurant, I was hoping to suggest Folk Art to them but I definitely won't be. If you have a Saturday brunch rush, be friendly and let people know what's going on instead of being weird,...
Read moreFolk Art. Wow! This place is a winner on all fronts. I mean Decatur has gems on top of gems when it comes to eclectic and varied dining. I have long believed that the dining landscape in Decatur had far exceeded the offerings in Atlanta or Athens and this was before I had discovered Folk Art. Was in town staying at the Hampton Inn and I needed lunch. A quick Google search introduced me to FA. I called and Grace picked up the phone. I would have ordered from here based on her voice and personality alone. She was so upbeat and explained a few things to me when I had questions. I ordered the fried green tomatoes, the cucumber and avocado salad, the collards with bacon and the cheesesteak. I walked the three minutes from my hotel to pick up the order, The place was rather empty but I arrived to pick up my order towards the end of closing time. I went to the bar to pick up my order and i will say, the bag was packed quite securely. Everyone was practicing social distancing in the building so shout out from Dr. Fauci, the CDC, and the NIH. I was thanked for my service and I was on my way back to my hotel. When I arrived in my room and opened my containers everything that was supposed to be hot was still hot and the packaging was very stable. I started with the avocado salad. This was a nice combination and I am surprised I have never put them together before. The avocados were creamy and the cucumbers were chilled and had a nice crunch. I believe there were some type of dressing on the salad. I then dived into the collards. What a creative dish. The collards were not cooked down hard like soul food hard. They were instead sauteed and tossed in some salty and delicious bacon that was quite thick. I am imagining this bit of pork could be the lone seasoning for the collards. I just wish the sides were bigger but then again they would not be called sides if they were larger. The star attraction of my meal was the cheesesteak. I had it without the cheese and with extra mayo. So i must add, I have had virtually every cheesesteak of note in Philadelphia. It is an iconic dish that is the face of Philadelphia food landscape, But on this day, I must say, I had a cheesesteak that could hold its own with the best of them. It had the tastiest meat of any cheesesteak I have ever had. The bread cannot hold a candle to a Sarcone's, but the meat stood out. Overall this was a winner. I hope Covid ends soon so I can dine in and enjoy the buzz of Ponce and...
Read moreUpon entering this establishment, I was greeted with stares of 4 staff members. A male staff member was nice enough to say, Hello. Meanwhile the others just stared as if I had entered their home unannounced. I asked if I could sit at the bar? The lady staff member said, Yes! I told them I was going to the 🛁 to wash my hands and I would be right back. After I came back I sat at the bar. The lady was there acting as if she didn't see me and the other two male staff members who didn't initially speak was engaged in conversation like they were getting paid to socialize with each other. After sitting there for three minutes without being acknowledged, I said, "Okay, I'm ready to eat". One of them said, you just sat down. So, that means they both knew I was sitting and waiting patiently on them, but they were both ignoring me🙄 I finally placed my order. The food was done rather quickly, but my server was no where to be found. So, my food just sat there. Finally after 3 minutes I saw him coming from outside with the nice gentleman who greeted me upon arrival bringing in tables and chairs. I thought, wowwww🙄 So, I said out loud, you all have food just sitting up there getting cold. Guess who food it was? You guessed it, mine🙄 The nice gentleman, must have heard me and grabbed the food. My server brought me the bill, so that I could pay. I asked him if he could give change for a $20 bill. Although, he wasn't the best I was going to leave him a tip. He say's, Yes, but comes back with a $1 bill. My bill was $18.89. So, I would have received $1.11 back. Who told him to keep my .11 cents and why didn't he break the $20 like I asked him too🙄 I gave him another $20 and I said, Can you bring me change? He say's, Yes! He comes back with four $5 bills. My thoughts was he's trying to force me to give a $5 tip, which is 30%. I'm sure he knows the lack luster service he provided was not worth $5. I left without giving him a tip because he was doing what he does best socializing with his co-workers. The food was okay. The fellas that were cooking was having a Spanish party in the back, but nevertheless they were getting the food out quickly. Although, one was showing pictures on his cell with gloves on his left hand, but holding bread in his right hand without gloves on, so we all know he didn't wash his hands. The atmosphere was not great because of the lack of unprofessionalism. Do better Folk Art. p.s. I...
