I can overlook the paper plates plastic forks and solo cups. I can overlook the unorganized and delayed kitchen timing. Most restaurants take time to get that groove and flow going. But let’s talk about the food. My Poke bowl ordered with no rice had rice in it. My sons tuna was frozen solid so he could not eat it. We ordered the same poke bowl (except mine was not supposed to have rice) yet his had ingredients that mine did not like avocado and cilantro. After a significant wait I was given one of my rolls. It was the wrong roll. After more wait my torchamaki roll arrives. The menu says it is spicy crawfish topped with blackened whitefish and then torched. By spicy crawfish they must mean something is inside that you can’t even taste. By blackened they must mean whitefish with zero seasoning not even a speck. By torched they must mean run through the oven, baked thoroughly, then covered in some sort of mayo like sauce. It was like a baked tuna noodle casserole drowned in mayonnaise and nothing like the menu description. After the multiple snafus no one seemed to care. They did offer us the spider roll they served us by mistake for free but none of us eat soft shell crab. We did not make a fuss we did not ask for anything taken from our check. Our server said she told them I did not like the torchamaki and they did not care. Her words. It’s not so much that I didn’t like it (although it was very gross) it is more that it was very falsely advertised on the menu and no one cared about that. I am very disappointed as we have waited so long for Poke Sushi to open. Had anyone made any effort to show any tiny bit of care for the issues we had with our dinner we would have happily given it another go in a couple months when the restaurant finds its footing and is operating more smoothly. Sadly this was yet another Deland restaurant scene disappointment and on the list of places I will never go again. One positive- the yellow fever roll was very good. Just not good enough to...
Read moreWent by today in hope to find a new hibachi place. Noticed they didn’t cook infront of you and planned to go to another place that did. I order a small amount of food just to keep us over till we went to the other place. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. The some of the veggies looked gross like they had been sitting out to long or maybe frozen too long. We received our items in to go containers and packaged up. At first I thought it was sweet, then I was confused as I watch all the employees sit on their phones rather then actually make sure I was satisfied. Then another person came in and ordered a big plate of food but when I looked closer, IT WAS ON PAPER PLATES??? It was very strange. I got up and asked the gentleman behind the counter to throw away my food as I could not find a trash can, and no one told me about it. It looked like a typical self in restaurant. When I got up again to ask the lady that was behind the counter if she could throw away the rest of my items, she rudely said there’s a trash can right there… I was like oh okay, I’m sorry. I didn’t even know. The previous white woman who was behind the counter when my order was taken was very kind but I’m assuming the rude lady was either the owner or something by her attitude. WILL NOT COMEBACK OR RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. For a hibachi place, also very surprised they have no clear soup, only miso. Very...
Read moreDefinitely a work in progress as a new and upcoming sushi restaurant in DeLand. The inside is nicely decorated with new flooring, tables, seating and countertops.
Service: the server we had was clearly inexperienced and hadn't the slightest idea of how to serve people. Probably a local high school student working on the weekends. She wasn't very polite nor did she appear to have any interest in being there.
Food: sushi was delectable. We didn't have any of the other dishes - just sushi. Their soda fountain wasn't working and were serving cans of soda (retro).
I don't understand the choice in cups and plates - blue Solo cups and floral paper plates. The sushi wasn't even served on a plate, but in a plastic take out container, all pushed together making it difficult to remove from the tray.
Hopefully this kind of feedback will be taken into consideration and help to improve this restaurant's success. I personally wouldn't return for a few months, to give them time to fix...
