Bob Evans — Restaurant in Delaware

My wife and I live in the area and decided to stop by. Nobody was at the front counter to greet us, took about 10 minutes for someone to come and start seating people. After we got seated the server was very nice and she got our drinks and orders promptly. The order took around 30 minutes to come out but while we were waiting we kept hearing the horrendous hacking/coughing coming from the back. I stood up to use the bathroom and realized it was the only cook back there coughing and hacking all over the food. No mouth covering, no covering her mouth with her hand, she was just letting the spit fly. I told the waitress to box ours up to go and we left, I threw out the food. No way I was eating something I just saw someone literally hacking and coughing directly on. Do not care the reason, do not care if she was perfectly healthy, I do not want her spit on my food. This wasn't just a single cough or two either. I was tempted to record it because it was non stop for the entire 30minutes we waited. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. The manager was right next to her the whole time not caring. He just keep sending and boxing orders out covered in her spit. Regardless of all the mismanagement of the place this was the worst of it. When we checked out the young girl at the counter also didn't say a word so I wasn't sure what she needed and I said "What do you need?" and she rolled her eyes and grabbed the receipt out of my hand. Attitude, sickness, and mismanagement. Spend your money elsewhere. I feel bad for the waitress because she was nice, she needs to work...

Update: our waitress was awesome. Food was good, not great, and too much... LoL My eyes said yes but my belly said whoa there psycho.

It irks me that I have to leave such a low review, but we've been by this location so many times there's no excuse for the things we experience over and over again. First off, we usually get the same waitress regardless of what day or time we go. About half a year ago we figured she was new and that's why our service was so bad. Don't get me wrong...she's nice enough. But she is wildly neglectful...or forgetful...or overwhelmed. Either way, there's no excuse for over half a dozen visits ending in disappointment. Usually it's only that she takes a long time for anything...to take our drink order, to bring our drinks, to take our food order, to refill our drinks... But yesterday was exceptionally bad. In addition to the excessive wait time, she brought us the wrong order, kept bringing out a la carte items to correct it, then the plate was still wrong so the manager took it back to correct. Our waitress came by and asked if we needed refills, but never brought them. We watched her take two other tables' orders, bring their drinks, go ask another table if they needed anything, but no drinks. After about 15 minutes, we had to ask another waitress for refills. Inexcusable. To be fair to the restaurant as a whole, I'm leaving two stars instead of one because the guy who takes the payment and the manager did their best to fix...

We are staying at the Quality Inn next door for the weekend. We needed a more hearty brunch than the hotel offered so we looked at Google reviews for local restaurants. This Bob Evans did not get the best reviews so we drove downtown to another restaurant. Well, Saturday morning downtown was crazy due to some sort of street market. We turned around and came back to Bob Evans because we didn't want to hassle with so many people. When we walked in the door we were greeted by more than one employee and they were all professional. The restaurant was very clean. Our waitress was very sweet. She engaged my parents in friendly conversation about my niece's wedding and made my parents feel seen and cared for. The food was good. We got the sunrise breakfast (eggs, bacon, pancakes) and the strawberry french toast. The meals were all very good and consistent with what you would expect from a breakfast at Bob Evans. I prefer to shop and eat local mom and pop places, however this Bob Evans worked for our timeline and location and we were satisfied. The management is doing a good job of keeping the restaurant running smoothly, having a clean environment, hiring and training friendly, patient, employees, and serving good food.
