This was an impromptu stop on our way to do some shopping, and it just so happened to be on our way. We love Greek food and were really looking forward to try a new Greek place in the area.
We went on a wed night around 6pm. It was quiet with only a few patrons, but it seemed like there were people coming in picking up orders as well.
We ordered an app and one dinner plate to share.
1st sign of distress: the waiter told us there an $8 up charge for sharing on a $20 plate. That’s major negative points on the customer service front. Way to punish your customers for not wanting to overeat. We proceeded reluctantly.
We received the Saganaki, the waiter lit it on fire in front of us, it looked cool, it was fun. The taste wasn’t horrible, but wasn’t stellar. If you haven’t had it before it’s not a bad place to try just because they light it on fire (most places don’t anymore)
Gyro dinner… the 2nd sign of distress… The chef must have been bored… we got a plate of a small portion of dry gyro meat, a heap of over cooked soggy vegetables, and potatoes that seem to have been sitting in the back for a while. There was also a dry salad that didn’t even have olive oil or any sort of flavor option. When I asked if the gyro plate came with pita, I was disappointed to find out that it didn’t.
When seeing my distress the waiter brought me a pita and explained that there’s a difference between the gyro dinner and gyro platter. He may have noticed the look on my face, so he didn’t charge us the sharing charge on the bill.
After all this I really thought at least one thing would taste REALLY good to help salvage the experience…unfortunately there wasn’t.
It looks like they spent a lot of money on their interior renovations, but $0 on their quality of food. We will likely not be stopping by again, there are other Greek options between Boca and Boynton that aren’t as nice on the inside, but the food is authentic and...
Read moreLet's just say there isn't an old Greek woman cooking in the kitchen...perhaps no Greek cooking at all. I will be fair and admit I'm from New England...Boston area. If you have been to Boston, you understand our food is authentic to culture and beautifully prepared. This restaurant had terrible service and the food? Forgettaboutit! The stuffed grape leaves (dolmades) were definitely out of a can. They were mushy and meatless inside...you could not even define a grain of rice. The hummous was bland... tasteless. I asked for red onion which is how it is scooped and eaten traditionally and the waiter looked at me like I had 3 heads. He brought me the onion diced...how was I to scoop the hummous with a diced onion? The lamb was seasoned with Italian dressing...you could not taste the lamb...just the overbearing seasoning. The Syrian bread(pita) was thick and impossible to open for stuffing or scooping food which is how Greek and Arab use it. I waited nearly 25 min for my Greek salad to be served. When it came I had to search for the feta cheese. I waited 20 min for the waiter to bring me my check and another 15 min before he came to retrieve my payment. My waiter was serving the bar and multiple dining room tables. He did make a good drink though...but it wasn't Greek haha! Skip this poor attempt at...
Read moreTaso's was an unexpected "high five" experience. We were headed west out of Delray, suddenly hit by that gotta-get-me-some-tzatziki feeling. And there was Taso's. We pulled in, first noticing the inviting indoor-outdoor bar. It was Nico to the rescue, hitting us with a warm welcome and the Happy Hour menu! Being up against the Happy Hour clock (and cheap), we chose the first 3 menu items, $6 each - Greek melt (gyro meat, feta, mozzarella, sauteed onions and peppers in warm, fresh pita bread) spanakopita (on the menu as spinach and cheese pies), and lamb/beef sliders Gyro style with feta and fries on the side). Everything was served to be comfortably shareable. The Greek melts alone would have been enough for the 2 of us, but it was too good to stop there! The melts were really unique, flavorful, and satisfying. The sliders were ridiculously good. Very fresh, with melt-in-your-mouth buns. The "pies" were delicious, a light, flaky pastry with a creamy dream inside. We quickly determined the tzatziki was the best we have ever had. We took 1/3 of our food home since we ordered so much, but believe me, we wanted to savor every morsel.
The restaurant itself is nice, comfortable, updated with very cordial staff. Taso's is a family owned business building off old family recipes. We will...
