Please be advised when using the Pay At Table machine system that is located on your table at Cheddars, it could cause issues. I experienced a very frustrating experience on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025. The Server took it upon herself to check me out after I had inserted my card into the machine when I was capable of using that pay at the table system and quickly said she would do it for me. I told her that I wanted to leave my gratuity in cash rather than on my card. She said okay and then she proceeded real quickly with the transaction. I didn’t get a receipt but I had my original bill with the option of paying l8, 20, or 22 % in tip. Apparently, she checked me out with the highest tip rate. Thank goodness I immediately received a notification from my Bank showing the 22% gratuity rate rather than on the bill she gave me which showed the bill without gratuity with options to select. (thank goodness for my phone providing an alert tone because I thought I had left it inside my car and would not have seen that bank notification until I returned home) She said the machine sometimes did that on its own. I know electronics sometimes have a mind of their own, but I believe she pressed the button “COMPLETE” which automatically issues the 22% gratuity. When I called it to her attention, she explained that she would run my card through again and all charges would be in a pending state until she closed out at the end of the night. Sure enough I had 3 pending amounts on my bank account. The day it appeared correctly, but in the meantime it caused me concern that I didn’t need, and for that reason I do not plan to patronize Cheddar’s again, so if you elect to use that system on your table-do the transaction yourself which provides the option of not leaving a tip on your credit card, but also keep in mind that it doesn’t provide you a receipt of your transaction. Also be mindful that you can tell your server that you don’t want your credit card run through that machine because you want a final receipt or pay in cash. We had already put the cash for her tip on the table and had I not checked my e-mail to see where my Bank immediately notified me, she would have received a very hefty gratuity. We used Olive Garden’s pay at the table system a week prior and had no problem whatsoever, and it provides you with a printed receipt and it was very easy to by-pass the gratuity option. The system that Cheddar’s use is very difficult to bypass that option, but you can if you study it carefully. Hopefully this will save at least 1 person the grief that I experienced for one day. In closing, to the Management: Please train your Servers to ask the Patrons IF THEY NEED ASSISTANCE in using the PAY AT TABLE system because I can just imagine how many people have been scammed out of leaving a double gratuity. P.S. Once I explained to the server that I was very capable of using that device myself and didn't appreciate the chaos, she did provide thorough and respectful assurance that the amount on my credit card would be corrected, but she needs to be...
Read moreExcitedly entering the establishment I told the hostess we needed a low top table for three. She then turned around and asked me again because apparently looking away for about 2 seconds made her forget. As we wait I hear her answer a few phone calls and then she literally talks about a customer who just called and referred to him as "crazy". Trust me when I tell you that is not something that a customer wants to hear, an employee talking about customers. Then we sit down in a section where my server is Amy who is taking care of 3 tables. Amy drops off our appetizers and I asked her for plates (appitizers this large generally come with plates) and she runs off and does three other things instead of bringing the plates so I got up and got them myself. The chips for the appetizer were 1/4 crumbled and I don't really understand what anybody wants me to do with those. I asked for more chips so we can finish our appitizer and after watching her do a couple more things I just take the chip crumbles and mix them up with my artichoke dip and just eat it with a fork. I asked for Waters we get none. I asked for a deconstructed bacon cheeseburger so that I can take it when we leave and I express to her how important it is that it is not soggy and she brings me the ingredients of a burger without any condiments just in the bottom of a plastic container where guess what, it is floating all over the place and soggy. I am glad that a different server brought the food to the table, she was able to grab the dishes that we had on the table and on the chair that my server didn't take. We were also sitting there waiting for napkins that never made it to the table either so I had to go to the bar and get my own. Two managers on duty, one tall dark man very well put together and one shorter lighter skin female who was also very well put together. He showed genuine concern and she just wanted me out of her hair. If this place had been busy I could see the delays but there was no reason for any. Us, a table packing up their family to go, a booth near us and a table just sitting does not create a situation where a seasoned waitress should be frazzled or unable to keep up. I was thoroughly disappointed with this service, thoroughly disappointed in the reaction of the female manager who talked about me as we were making our way to the door to leave to the current hostess. The female manager did offer to get us some Waters to go that were never refilled when asked, however at this point what difference...
Read moreI love Cheddar's food!
In celebration of a friend's birthday, four of us visited and each ordered food and a cocktail. I ordered Sauvignon with a twist of lemon. When the drinks arrived, mine had lip prints on the glass. So I asked the waiter to return it. By the way, our waiter...she was excellent! But I cannot remember her name.
Everyone's drink was down about halfway, and I still didn't have mine. So I headed to the bar.
There was the drink, still on the bar with the lip print. The bartender was away from the area, so I waited. Upon his return, about 5 minutes, Keith assured me that he would remake the drink in a clean glass and bring it to the table. I returned to my seat. I waited and waited.
Finally, I went back to the bar. I was not happy. I asked him if he had forgotten about me, and he said no, but he had other people to wait on. The drink was still there on the bar with lip prints. For real? I said, I was here first and have been waiting for you to bring the drink like you said, and I would like my drink now. Make a note that I only drink on special occasions.
I couldn't believe it when he said he didn't know how to make the drink! How hard is it to make a glass of wine with a twist of lemon? I said, oh, let me show you, because I used to be a bartender and proceeded by removing the flesh from the lemon wedge. I asked him to pour the wine. Begrudgingly, he did so, filling the glass to just under half. I twisted the lemon rind, rubbed it around the rim of the glass, dropped it in. And said that's how you make it. There was another employee standing to my right, who probably should have been working...I really wasn't certain what his role was other than a lot of talking out of order and egging Keith on.
My question is, why is Keith working behind the bar if he doesn't know how to make a glass of wine with a twist of lemon? Why is he working there with such a bad attitude? It was totally unacceptable. When I asked that the (half) glass of wine be comped, he sent a message through the waiter that I wouldn't be getting any more. Did he mean any more comped wine or any more alcohol period? I just left it alone.
By the way, my name is Karen, and I should have asked to speak to the manager! We frequent Cheddar's often, and I'll make a note to speak to a...
