First time here. From Texas.
*Turkey Ribsz - Interesting in a good way. It's a nice alternative to chicken. Would order them again. *Pulled pork - Wasn't dry. Didn't have much of a smoky flavor. Not sure if I would order again. *Brisket - It was over cooked. Wasn't given an option for juicy/fatty or lean. Couldn't taste the bark because of the au jus poured on top. First time ever had it that way. The fat cap was THICK and lacked flavor. It was like a gelatinous chunk. I normally eat the fat off of brisket but this was too much. It's priced almost as Terry Blacks whole frozen brisket per pound. Wouldn't order it again. *Collard greens - Thought they tasted good. Not overly salted. Would order again. *Mac and cheese - Creamy but didn't taste anything special. If you like mac and cheese, you'll like it. Probably wouldn't order again.
Didn't feel the meats had much smokey flavor.
Maybe a suggestion, since this is mainly a pork place, how about pork belly. Look at Interstellar BBQ in Austin. They have a Michelin star - first BBQ place to ever receive one. They're known for their pork belly but their brisket is also excellent.
Possibly a Texas thing, but bread, pickle slices and onion slices weren't served with the order.
Still in search of a BBQ place since...
Read moreThe brisket here was awesome. The brisket sandwich is just pulled brisket on a bun and nothing else, but the BBQ sauce added really makes it solid, even with no toppings. The coleslaw was creamy and very good. The pulled pork was good and the sauce helped it. The loaded mac and cheese seemed like Velveeta with pulled pork on top. Not bad, just not what I had expected. The banana pudding was outstanding. It was proper banana pudding that was made the day before (as it should be) and with the right balance of pudding, bananas, and wafers. I was impressed. The only negative thing about my meal was the cornbread. It was dry and crumbly like Jiffy mix with not enough butter. It was the only thing that really could use some improvement. The actual restaurant is nice. Very clean and a nice atmosphere. A good amount of seating. The bathroom was very clean and complaints there would be picking knits. Staff was friendly. The prices seemed a tad high but not unreasonable at all. It was a good experience overall. The only thing keeping the fifth star out was the Jiffy cornbread and a little bit of the Velveeta Mac. I would return and recommend to...
Read moreSmoke and Pig can be very hit or miss on quality. We’re not sure if the quality is reflective of who in particular is working at the moment, but there have been a few times food has been served cold. *based on maybe 10 or so visits.
In particular, tonight, one brisket sandwich was lukewarm and a side of mac and cheese was cold. We told the front cashier about the mac and cheese and received it back after a couple of minutes. It was, at that point, just lukewarm. We didn’t feel like bringing it up a second time.
A woman cashier greeted us when at the counter, but put out of a vibe that she really didn’t want to be there working or too keen on the customer experience. We noticed her laying her head on part of the counter next to the register, messing with her phone, and eating near the register.
Between the food being cold and the lack of enthusiasm by the staff, it just wasn’t a very enjoyable time. More often than not the restaurant serves excellent food and tastes great, But when things like This happen it really takes away from the overall experience of the...
