This review is about customer service. I feel like it is important to state that up front, just in case you are interested in reviews about food. I have not tried the food at duo- from what I've read and heard, it is outstanding. But, if customer service is important to you, then read on.
My wife and I had a reservation for Valentine's Day (February 14 is also my wife's birthday). Upon arrival, we were asked to stand outside for over 30 minutes in temperatures below 0. To be fair, there were heaters- but they were simply not effective in weather that cold. After we were seated, there were at least 20 people standing around our table- also waiting to be seated. It is extremely awkward, and devoid of romance, to allow crowds to form in such an intimate space. This is especially unacceptable as we are in the middle of a pandemic. It would be surprising if even during normal times, duo wasn't exceeding their occupancy maximum based on the number of seated tables and people waiting to be seated. Anyway, eventually our waiter brought water- but never checked in again. After another 30 minutes, we got up and left.
In summary, duo seriously overbooked tables, likely trying to capitalize on the holiday to help make up for the financial impacts of COVID19. I am so tired of pretentious restaurants compromising customer service and the overall dining experience, and then blaming the pandemic- but then turning around, charging excessive amounts, and massively overbooking their restaurant- all in favor of their own well being. duo should be ashamed for ruining our Valentine's Day (and my wife's birthday)- and likely ruining what could have been a special night for many other diners.
We are in this pandemic together- yet duo clearly believe that they are entitled to our money, support, and patronship- without providing a service that shows appreciation, effort, and gratitude . It simply makes me sick to my stomach when certain places think it is appropriate to charge hundreds of dollars (including and especially mandatory gratuities) to provide a completely...
Read moreI was recommended to Duo from the manager of Sports Optical (44th and Tennyson) in the Highlands district of north Denver (Thanks Randi !!!!). She told me that Duo was one of her favorite restaurants, so I rushed home to make a brunch reservation.
The place is a truly happening place on Sunday during brunch. All I saw was smiling faces all around. I had the "Sweet Sunday", it's like eggs benedict but way better. The menu reads , "poached eggs on grilled sourdough bread with spinach, mushrooms & sweet onion ragout with crispy potatoes". I ate everything on the plate. The plate was so clean it could've been reused immediately. My wife had the Corned Beef sandwich, which I ate 1/4. She loved it. The corned beef was warm. The sandwich was made perfect. My son, who's 5 years old, is very picky ate every bit of his french toast and 1/2 a grilled cheese with gouda his little sister ordered.
The coffee is roasted in Denver and I say, excellent coffee. I had to order another french press because I was in heaven.
The service was friendly and enjoyable at Duo. Our waitress was smiling the whole time. Even though she was extremely busy, she was attentive. We felt like we were the only customers.
The art work is very interesting. I love the mobile like window display to make a wall. Very ingenious. Oh, there's a church pew as a bench for bigger parties. Nice touch.
I am glad we went, and I know we will be going back often. I highly recommend EVERYONE to Duo. I live in Highlands Ranch, it took me less than 20 minutes to get to Duo - not speeding either.
I suggest you make a reservation. Once you're done, take a stroll though the Highlands district. This is what I call paradise.
I know what you're thinking. I sound like I am affiliated with Duo. I am not affiliated with Duo in anyway. I am just a happy customer that will spend a lot of money...
Read moreThis was my first time here and after living in Denver for six years, had heard great things about it but never been until now.
I made a 6:45pm reservation but due to difficulty in finding parking we didn't actually get into the restaurant until 7pm. I wasn't able to call as hence I was parking but found a voicemail on my phone after we arrived from 6:55pm saying they were only holding our table for 5 more minutes. It could have been why they seemed to awkwardly seat us in the bar at what they described 'was their only table'. We looked over in the dining room and the place was almost completely empty! We were confused...
I guess I expected more. I came with a fellow foodie friend and we prepared to eat our way through the menu together, sharing dishes along the way.
We started with the tomato heirloom app which was yummy but a little too much vinegar.
Next was the scallop crudo, a dish I typically love. This one seemed to be inconsistently overseasoned on one half of the dish because you could see the heavy amount of seasoning. The dish was also on a bed of melon granita which melted and created a watery salty home for what was left and made it hard to eat.
We shared the petite greens salad and wild salmon entree for dinner, which we both agreed was very yummy! The salad could have had a little less dressing but we ate it anyway.
We finished with the chocolate cashew tart, which was just enough.
We came in on a reservation around 7pm and left around 9pm but our server seemed to want to hurry us out near the end, not sure why.
I may or may not come back here as there's so many great places in...
