Unfortunately, I am unable to give a rating on the food, as I never received my food. I called in a to go order this evening and was told that my food would be ready in half an hour.
When I arrived 29 minutes later and let the owner know I was there to pick up my to go order, he immediately raised his voice and reminded me that I was to pick up my order in half an hour. When I let him know that he did tell me half an hour 29 minutes ago, he then placed the blame on the fact that he had to cook meals for his in house patrons, and that he had not started my food yet.
On a Saturday night at 6:10pm, he had only 2 customers in his restaurant, and my to go order was the third order. Therefore? He was unable to cook 3 dinner orders on a Saturday night.
I left the restaurant to go back to my car and wait. After 10 minutes, I went back into the restaurant, where he again yelled at me for not waiting half an hour, and he then told me that had yet to start my meal.
I obviously left at that point in time, and will not return. I expect a modichom of respect as a patron when entering an establishment, and would have been more than patient with his inability to prepare food in a timely manner had he been respectful. When you combine an inability to prepare a simple meal in 30 (really 40) minutes with a disrespectful customer service attitude, that typically equals looking for...
Read moreI LOVE this restaurant! If you asked me to quantify that feeling, I can tell you I have been going to the Erawan Cafe since I was in single digits. Erawan Cafe has been serving delicious, authentic Thai food for 37 years. As a born and raised Denverite, I was introduced to Phud Thai sitting with my family in this quaint and comfortable spot. Honestly, I am something of a Thai food zealot and there is no where I would rather take some time to grab a meal. The owner and head chef, Art, is a delight. Erawan Cafe is the type of place where you legitimately feel at home - even if I call for take out, Art knows me by my order! It is rare to find such a gem. Over 30 plus years of dining at Erawan Cafe, I have stuck to the same tried and true order - I love the "original" Phud Thai - it is a different take on a familiar dish and I can't get it anywhere else. But I have shared my "spot" with friends over the years and heard rave reviews of curries and Phud-Se -Lew. Erawan Cafe feels like "my place" and when I find another person who is also familiar with Art and his establishment, it is like we are sharing some sort special Denver restaurant secret! I can't...
Read moreWent in on a Tuesday evening. There was an older friend couple already sat. After waiting quite a while we realized the older gentleman who initially greeted us was the ONLY person there working and cooking. As we waited about half dozen more people trickled in. My partner watched him transition between roles as best possible and not wash his hands between handling anything.
Ordered veggie tempura for app. Disgusting is the kindest way I could describe it. Mushy yet burned with deep black char, not tempura batter AT ALL and "veggies" were ALL medallion cut mush/frozen/old carrots.
Main course was even worse. Grey and pale colors, stale mushy grey rice. I would have taken photos but did not want to be so rude. BBQ pork was more like unidentifiable boiled meat of some kind. Cabbage was a strange color. We discreetly spit everything we tried back out.
Service took forever, obviously, but by the time we assessed the main meal, we decided we didn't want to get sick or wait any longer so we left cash and left the restaurant. Super disappointed and won't be going back. Also smelled not too great inside, kind of like sewage. Much better Thai...
