American Eats 1️⃣: Restaurant Next to the Denver Art Museum

During my stay at the Art Hotel, I was given a lot of credits to dine at this restaurant via my American Express benefits, so I have decided to give this place a try, and I was able to come here for brunch on both Saturday and Sunday, as a result trying a lot of items on the brunch menu. Overall I think majority of items are not bad, but not anything I would proactively return to eat if I wasn't given a credit benefit. There were highlights, but unfortunately I had a bit more to critique than to praise :( For the items I have tried, such as the bacon egg & cheese sandwich, the bun was way too big to the point that taking one bite, I felt majority of what was in my mouth was bread which made it hard to chew, so I ended up eating all ingredients separately. The bacon, avocado, and eggs themselves inside tasted good, though, just as a combination, maybe using a smaller sandwich bun would be good, or maybe even burger bun like brioche bread. I also had the double patty burger, which my server told me was well done, and she wasn't kidding. It was so well done to the point that the patties had absolutely no juice. They were extremely overcooked and dry and were really thin, so even though the fries were great, the burger unfortunately was very subpar. Maybe making the patties thicker would help (unless they don't grind their own meat to make the patties). The avocado bacon chicken club was pretty good! That sandwich bun was a lot more chewable, and as a result I had very pleasant bites! The chicken was dry, but it was chicken breast, and I completely understood! My partner who was with me had the other main dishes in the photo and she described everything as "nothing special" which meant that they were not bad, but not something that made her wanted to proactively return for them. She gave a lot of praise on the chicken apple sausage, though! I had some and I would agree. It had savor and spiciness simultaneously. I enjoyed the desserts! Both the mousse parfait and the créme brûlée had layers of flavors because of the ingredients they had. The mousse had three layers and I could taste each layer of flavor and texture with one spoon. The lavender and orange taste were both very obvious in the créme brûlée and as a créme brûlée maker, I enjoyed it very much! Overall I would say I wouldn't make a trip out here just to have food from this establishment, but the food definitely tasted good enough for me to return if I was given another credit when I return to the Art Hotel!

We are staying at the ART Hotel for our anniversary and reserved a table here for dinner. McKenzie was our server and she is AMAZING!!!! So personable and genuine and interested in how we felt about our dining experience. She gave us great recommendations on starters. My wife had a baby kale salad with crispy onions and goat cheese. We don't like kale usually but this was really good. Good texture and it was lightly dressed, very refreshing. I had the pork belly with wild mushrooms and polenta... probably one of the best things I have eaten in Denver, period! The pork was tender but had the perfect sear to it. Seasoned nicely and the mushrooms had great texture to them, not mushy. The polenta was so creamy! So good, have to get this when you come! The reason for 3 stars is because unfortunately the entrées were just not on the same level. We both had the 48 hour short rib so we were excited for that. In my mind I'm thinking super tender, lacquered with some of the reduced braising liquid, maybe some creamy mashed potatoes. No. While it was tender, it was lacking on seasoning and had a salsa verde on it that made no sense and didn't add to the dish. The side was almost like a crudite of sliced heirloom carrots that should have been paper thin but were pretty thick. Mixed in was some frisee salad pieces, just made no sense. There was a carrot puree underneath which had good flavor but was an after though. I hardly touched mine so McKenzie offered to switch mine out with the Seabass. One of her favorites. When it came out it had a very intense fish smell. I like seafood but (as a Chef) fish should not smell! She did say it was fresh but again, very fishy. Weird thing to nitpick but it just seemed off. The skin was nice and crispy. The broccolini was cooked perfect and the sauce that accompanied it was silky and creamy. Again, that pork belly is one of the best things I've had in a long time but the entrées just missed the mark for us. McKenzie again was AWESOME!

My family and I just got in town earlier from skiing and are staying here at the Hilton. We felt from the online menu this would be a good place to eat and would keep us from going out tonight. The host was nice and friendly, even when I forgot our group was 6 and not 4, we sat at 8pm. My wife and I were waiting on our daughters and their friends to get ready in their room and meet us at the table. 10mins passed and not a peep from staff. My wife was cold and went up to our room to get a jacket. 15min after being sat, a lady (Nicole) came up to us and said she was sorry but her waitress was out of it and it will be a while longer, we said okay np. 5mins later Nicole came back up to us and asked to take our drink order. I said we'd like to go ahead and get starters going too, she agreed hesitantly. 20mins later, nothing; no drinks, no food. Since our kids had not shown up yet, I said to my wife let's go up to the bar and get a shot while we wait. The bartender seemed very frustrated and sharp, implying to me he understands we have been waiting and for us to go back to our seats, this made my wife walk off ( she avoids confrontation). I replied, oh that's fine we are still waiting on the rest of our party, and we just want a shot. He said, I'm busy and I will get to you when I can. I said np, I understand. Then the female customer on my right said the bartender has 20 orders waiting, I said I understood. 1min later Nicole came up behind my wife and I and said, can I help you in snarky look. I said, no, we are just waiting on our shots. (Still chilling regardless of whatever their attitude was about). The male bartender motioned aggressively for Nicole to come behind the bar and handed her a bottle of tequila to pour my wife and I. I then said can you make it a double while we wait, I understand it's taking a while. Nicole chose then to pour triples, I responded by saying to my wife, she's trying to kill us and we both laughed. Then Nicole went on a rant and starting saying you want it with lime, I said no, how it is, is fine. Nicole then continued repeating her rant about lime and some other thing(clearly on purpose in front of 8-12 customers). I said again, no how it is please. My wife and I went to sit back down laughing at the craziness. About 3mins later Nicole came to the table and asked us to leave because I offended the bartender and made him cry. I said how, by asking for a shot? She said yes and that I couldn't be respectful by staying in my seat patient. I said that is ridiculous. If I want to grab something at the bar, there should not be a problem. Nicole replied by saying it was and he is crying by what I said. Well what did I say? My wife and I got up and Nicole still continued to rant by raising her voice even louder to where the 30+ other customers could hear and started looking. We started walking and as soon as we were passing the bar Nicole started rushing up behind us, which felt aggressive. I immediately stopped and warned her to not run up on us like that. She said, what do you think I'm going to do something to you? I replied for her not to get close or touch us, as we continued to walk out. She said, what are scared?. Nicole then signaled to someone else saying thank you Bear. My wife and I immediately walked to the Hilton counter and reported what we had just experienced. Then the rest of our party arrived, shocked by how frustrated we were, wondering what the heck happened. I then noticed a guy standing behind me while I was still at the Hilton counter, I asked him if he was Bear and he said yes. Honestly, the guy looked like he emptied trash at a methadone clinic. I told Bear, he is no longer in his restaurant and I am at the counter of the hotel I am staying at. He needs to go back over there and leave us alone. My family and I got in the elevator, called the valet and went to a happier place. We will be here till Friday, theres no way in hell I'm eating breakfast, lunch, dinner or a drink here. Funny, I planned on having a drink, eat and go to bed....

Mia, Kendra, Jenn, Alex and Alex, John, Victor the manager, Joey, Nick, Rebekah, Meghan, Leya, Scott, Doug, Fig, Chris, Kyle, Najah, Star, Dwight and forgive me for not naming all of them from the room services to maintenance all of them have been absolutely marvelous stars, representatives and servers for this illustrious hotel in downtown Denver. Its no wonder its rated the best and I strongly believe its because of the people that work in it. They all and more have created a home away from home for me and more. I have been in the hotel for about a month now and I would say from an outside perspective and as a guest have witnessed day in and day out night after night morning after morning of what its like here.

All the staff are not just highly professional at their jobs but whats better than that is they all give you this feel that they are real, a true ‘Denver Welcome’, they are upfront and eager to help or provide their services to their guests and IT hard for me to describe but people just have to come here and stay here to experience it. The staff here go above and beyond for customer service and are true examples of this industry. This is a team you cannot compare to many other teams from different higher end high paying places I have been too for this long of a time.

From Kendra not only serving but multitasking several tables with her beautiful smile, hard professional work, and working longer than normal hours supporting her amazing family at home waiting for her and being so much fun the entire time. John the supervisor filling in multiple rolls throughout the hotel physically runs for 8-10 hours or even sprinting to and from cars with complete respect and kindness to customers for valet never slowing down, to Alex at the front desk with his amazing knowledge and enthusiasm finding or knowing the best places to visit, eat or see to experience in Colorado. Jenn the bartender for her confidence, pride and knowledge she has at the bar mixing fantastic drinks but even knows a little history about them is rarity in itself. To Mia having the most beautiful and kindest smile on her face when she greets people at the hotel at 4am in the morning provide the same great service as they do during the day.

I have been to resorts and fancy or well known hotels around the world from up and down Italy, to the Caribbean, to cruises on the Pacific and on the Atlantic Ocean, multiple Disney resorts, to high end world politic places in Washington D.C. to Hawaii and I haven’t experienced such a hardworking amazing team, do what they do everyday and night.

They deserve highest tips from customers, upmost support from HQ Hilton to help continue the sophistication and great cultural environment this amazing team has created. Help them continue to excel this great hotel to maintain their continuous amazing experience and stature they provide to its guests. The tools and even greater happiness to do more than what they already do great at. Then you got a true goldmine in the Rockies. Thank you Staff of the The Art Hotel in...
